Chapter 1: The root of love

Chapter Text

Park Sunghoon can be a good acquaintance. Also he can be a good friend. And on top of that, he can be a good boyfriend... But only if he wasn't Nishimura Riki's enemy and looked at him from a different angle at least once.

They were different, but at the same time similar. If the guys wore the same snow white outfit, people would describe them in opposite ways: Park Sunghoon is cold as snow, untouchable as ice;  Nishimura Riki is as gentle as snow, innocent as ice. They differed in personalities: Sunghoon is cold-blooded and indifferent to everyone, while Riki is friendly and kind to everyone. When the first wished for death, the other wished for happiness. When the elder crippled, the younger healed. They were opposites... On Park Sunghoon's face could always see a cold expression that doesn’t have any positive emotion (unless it's "kill yourself"). His dark eyes always reflected humiliation and insult, which is why the rest of the students (and especially first-year students) didn’t want to cross his path at all. And Nishimura Riki is the guy who glows from the inside with a light flame, a bright mood. His smile on his face instantly gave people confidence and a desire to trust him, so everyone they met held out his hand for a shake. And his eyes, in which the new universe seemed to be hidden, constantly reflected kindness and sincerity. Park Sunghoon was closed: he did not like to tell people “I love you”, “I value you”, “I need you”. Nishimura was open: he, on the contrary, did not like to say “I hate you”, “I don’t appreciate you”, “you are nobody to me”.  The elder locked his heart, replaced it with cold ice, and wrapped it around with a heavy chain preventing any flame from approaching even a meter. The younger voluntarily left his heart available hoping that everyone would get the rhythm of his heart, and not knowing that in this way he was collecting pieces of broken glass instead of a diamond. But on the one hand they were similar... The guys gave their friends a sincere and warm smile. They’re honest with their friends — with sparkles in their eyes they enthusiastically told what interested them. They always ready to help friends and pull them out of a deep hole sacrificing themselves. But they also suffered at night receiving a bullet in the heart without any resistance. They kept all the pain in themselves and died alone not wanting to become a burden for loved ones. This was their principle of life — "not to disturb a single soul with your suffering". They didn't understand each other, so they hated each other.

But, nevertheless, they had much more opposites than similarities.

Nishimura Riki didn't want to hold a grudge against Park Sunghoon. Every bad deed has an excuse, but he didn't see that in this undergrad. Everything Sunghoon did was different from Riki's point of view. Night parties, bad habits, and a terrible personality weren’t the meaning of the youngest's life, and therefore the world of Sunghoon was full of misunderstandings for Riki.

The fisrt-year student calmly walked along the empty corridor of the department holding documents in his hands. It's already six o'clock in the evening, but he planned to spend the rest of the time in the library with his friends to take notes. The end of the first semester is coming soon, so he need to close the session without debt, as he promised his parents. Pressing the button, the guy entered the empty elevator and examined himself in the mirror. The black hair is neatly combed, the black clothes are not crumpled, and a slight smile appeared on the child's face. Whatever people say about his innocent appearance, the guy himself loved the color black. This is the opposite of his light and bright mood, but his soul isn’t inky.

— Wait! — Riki quickly turned to the door and pressed the "close" button, because he recognized this voice immediately. There wasn’t desire to go down the elevator with this person. But it was too late, as the elevator doors opened back, and behind him stood a tall guy with an unkind look.

Park Sunghoon. The third-year student who gave the boy an evil look entered the elevator and pressed the second floor. His black hair, as always, shone either from cleanliness or from varnish, and there was not a single spot on his white clothes. He was so clean, but he was so cold-blooded. Nishimura nervously looked down to show his displeasure, and then began to feel the atmosphere in the elevator heating up. Two different energies reunited in the same room creating an explosion. If not for a call from friends, the guys would have definitely started a skirmish, as they always did.

— I'm going downstairs, — Riki replied immediately not wanting to hear Jake lecture him about not being late at all. He already knows, but the teacher took too long to explain about the student's travel expenses during the summer holidays in Japan. — Okay-okey. Tell Jungwon-hyung that...

— Damn, how noisy! — Sunghoon expressed his dissatisfaction by interrupting the speaker and clicking indicatively. And Jake, on the other side of the phone, recognized the voice of his classmate without any problems.

— Tell hyung that I’m not going to stay at his home today, — the younger imagined Yang Jungwon’s upset face and hung up the call with a playful smile.

Somehow the guys were able to endure each other's presence, but both went to the second floor. Continuing to follow the elder Riki immediately realized that he was also heading to the library. If his friends are there, then most likely a war will begin.

From the moment, when Nishimura Riki accidentally spilled his hot coffee on a third-year student wearing blindingly white clothes, the boys started their feud. The younger actually immediately apologized that day even saying that he could wash the ruined clothes, but Park Sunghoon continued to insult and humiliate with terrible words. Two students sided with the Japanese in an attempt to protect him, but Park had his own group of friends.

And since then, hatred has been born in all six guys.

Riki entered the library with a guilty smile, and his friends looked at him with puzzled faces. Just because he entered the room with someone the elders never expected to see next to their younger. The famous ice-cold Park Sunghoon!

— The teacher loves you too much to let you go so quickly, — after leaving his question about Park Sunghoon, said Sim Jaeyun, whose name was Jake.

— Riki, stay at my home tonight! Grandma went to visit her friend in the village, — Jungwon smiled his sweet smile trying to get the younger to agree.

— Maybe next time? I’ve other plans today, — Riki answered sitting in an empty chair and pulling out the necessary things from his bag. — Besides, the rain ruined my sneakers yesterday. I need to wash them.

Jake furrowed his brows, turned to the table that was ten paces away from them (to prevent the two clans from starting a fight), and tried to analyze Park Sunghoon's behavior. Since when did Riki walk into the library with this man? It’s not for nothing that the younger one had more important things to do in the evening, right?

— You know, Riki, that messing around with this man is like living in hell? — interrupting the speaking Yang, said the oldest of them.

— You're jealous, aren't you? — Jungwon chuckled and finally fixed his cat eyes on the book.

— Absolutely yes!

— Me or him? — Nishimura laughed as he began to write the summary.

— Of course you! It’s hard to even be in the same audience with this person, — Sim nervously drank his coffee wrinkling his nose. — By the way, let’s go to the cinema one of these days, shall we? The session will start soon, and there will be no time.

— Cool idea! — Jungwon agreed, and Riki nodded, but suddenly an angry, nervous, rough voice was heard from the side, that three guys simultaneously turned to the owner of this voice.

— Sim Jaeyun, can we talk in private? — it was Park Jongseong, a close friend of Park Sunghoon himself. And what does he want from Jake?

— Since when did we have a common topic for conversation? — Sim asked narrowing his eyes. He didn't feel like throwing proposals with this man.

— Fuck! — Jongseong slammed his palm on the desk causing both first-year students to flinch at the same time out of fright. — Don't you dare argue with me.

— What are you doing, dude?! — Jake immediately got up from his chair wanting to pounce on him. This student is being too disrespectful in a public place.

— Hyung, calm down, — Riki got up from his seat to stop the two nervous guys, but Jongseong’s friends walked over to their table looking at Jake in a bad way.

— Once again I’m telling you normally: let’s go out and talk, — Park hissed through clenched teeth continuing to burn Sim with his gaze.

— Get out of here. Strangers haven’t place here.

Park Jongseong immediately lashed out at Jake, which started a fight right in the quiet library. Jungwon wanted to help his friend, but Kim Sunoo (Yang's classmate) was ahead of him preventing him from stopping the furious Park. And Riki, throwing a menacing look at the grinning Sunghoon, ran up to his elder. But at that moment, Park Jongseong punched Jaeyun in the face. And then he hit his back against a high rack of books. Everything would be fine if not for the fallen bookcase! A dark brown bookcase containing several hundred books fell to another bookcase causing both of them to land on the floor with a loud crash. Nishimura could almost feel the floor beneath him shaking like an earthquake.

— What are you doing?! — the six shocked boys simultaneously turned to a loud remark from the intern, whose name was Lee Heeseung. — Now everyone do the cleaning here! None of you will return home until you put all the books in their places, — the intern gave everyone an evil look and crossed out something in his notebook.

— Bastard! It's all because of you, — Jongseong said quietly, and Jake gave him the middle finger and rubbed his back, which had received a blow.

— What the hell do you want to talk to me? Besides, I didn’t jump on you, you bastard, — after this statement, Park wanted to swing again, but Sunghoon stopped him nodding towards the trainee Lee.

— I'll come back in 20 minutes and check. If someone isn’t there, he has a direct road to Rector Kim's office.

So the guys began to throw nervous glances and silent insults at each other. But on the other hand, both groups had one closet each.

— Are you okay? — Riki asked Jake, to which he nodded with a smile and took the books from the floor enduring the pain on his cheek.

— Why would he suddenly want to talk to you? — Jungwon asked with interest and looked at Park Jongseong, who was putting the textbooks in the rack. — You haven’t approached each other even a meter before.

— Fuck him!

Riki laughed at the elder's swearing and turned to put the books on the shelf, when suddenly a worried voice of someone he didn’t respect was heard in front.

— Be careful! — the rack of other guys almost fell back and right on Riki, because of which the collected books fell like drops on the asphalt. If not for Park Sunghoon, who managed to catch the furniture, the first-year student would have gone to the hospital in an ambulance.

The movement of the tall brunette, silky hair falling neatly over beautiful eyes, as he turned to Riki seemed to be in slow motion to the terrified younger. The boy had seen him as irresistible but forbidden beauty before, but right now this third-year looked incredibly beautiful with his moles on his face and black, bottomless eyes. At that moment, Riki’s heart skipped a beat, and something painfully pricked in my chest. Shocked either from fear or from Sunghoon's beauty, Riki continued to stand still looking at the elder with his round, dark eyes. Something changed at that moment, and the Japanese felt his cheeks begin to slowly burn definitely spreading the pink color over his face. Quickly lowering his head, Nishimura turned to the other side and closed his eyes trying to calm his pounding heart.

The six guys continued their work trying not to interfere with each other. But when only ten minutes remained until the end of the "extra" work, Nishimura Riki felt his throat begin to tickle unpleasantly. The student, without explaining anything to his friends, quickly ran towards the restroom. And once there, he covered his mouth with his hand and began to cough heavily. The cough was violent, painful and sudden. Probably, when he got under a cold downpour, he managed to intercept the flu. However, what was his surprise and fear when, on his pale palm, the guy saw a beautiful scarlet petal that looked like poisonous blood!

It can't be...

Riki continued to stand still not understanding what magic had just happened to him.
