Fennekin (Avery x f!Reader)

Summary:

This was just a little fluffy one-shot where Reader decides to get Avery someone special on a trip before returning to the Dojo. Reader and Avery are both assumed 18+ (I'm not sure if they ever released a canon age for him, but I always write him as about 22).

Work Text:

The woman found herself smiling down at the pokeball tightly clutched in her hands as she rode the flying taxi back to the Dojo.  After over a month of absence, the woman had acquired both the pokeball tucked in her hand as well as another new addition stored in her bag.  Anxiety raged in her chest over the thought of handing said pokeball over.  With the thought always in the back of her mind, a pokemon from a past journey that she desperately wished to share, she couldn't help her anxiety.

What ifs swirled around in her mind as the Taxi let her off at the station, her thoughts consuming her as she made her way slowly back to the Dojo.  She barely had the thought to allow her own pokemon out of its pokeball as she walked to the dojo.  Nearly tripping over the bridge to the Dojo, she cupped the ball tighter, occasionally stealing a glance down upon it.  Once she made her way to the dojo, she slipped the pokeball she had been grasping with her life behind her back to hide it as she peeked her y/e/c eyes into the dojo.

Y/e/c gaze landing upon the suave blond, she found her mouth drying.  Though he referred to her as his rival, someone he never felt up to par with, he always elicited the flapping of butterflies in her stomach.  Swallowing hard, she made her way inside, her voice hesitant as it slipped past his lips.

"H-hey, Avery," she greeted softly, forcing her lips to curl upwards into a gentle smile.  She hated how shy the previous gym leader always made her feel, the way her heart pounded so readily in her chest, but it had been a wonderful feeling.  The swirling anxiety as she held his gift had been new, but her desire to give him something nice outweighed her concerns.  After all, she had gone all that way for him...and for her own pokemon.

Cerulean orbs landed upon her, a queried brow directed at her as he blinked.  "Where have you been?" He questioned rather curtly.  "Did you use teleport every time I tried looking for you or something?"

Quickly shaking her head, she moved the pokeball she had been hiding in front of her, resting gently in the palms of her hands as she glanced away from the handsome man.  "I went to get something," she replied softly.  "I'm sorry it took so long.  Kalos isn't exactly nearby."

"Kalos?" He repeated, his tone simply dumbfounded.  "You traveled all the way to Kalos?"  Cerulean eyes shifted down to the pokeball she held in her hands, his curiosity peaked at the sight, especially as it seemed she had been holding it out for him.

"Y-yeah," she replied with a soft chuckle, her gaze finally flickering back over to his.  Forcing herself to be confident, she allowed her lips to curl upwards more as she held the pokeball out.  "The final evolution of this pokemon is Fire and Psychic, and I was hoping she would be useful to you, since I heard you mention you got a gym in the league.  It's a fennekin...for you."

His cerulean gaze widened at her words, for a moment simply speechless.  It was quite a feat to leave the psychic specialist speechless, and yet, the woman he thought to be his rival had gone out of her way.  She had gone so far out of her way that she had gone halfway across the world to get a pokemon, just for him.  With his silence, his cheeks pinkened, realizing he had yet to grab the gift Y/N offered.

Using his telekinesis, he picked the pokeball from her hands, calling the pokemon forth for him to see.  Once the small fox pokemon was called forth, it gave an excited noise, glancing up at the blond, and in this moment, he thought his heart was going to melt.

"Did you use amnesia?" He finally said, shifting his gaze over to the woman once more.  "Y/N.  I don't even know what to say."  Though he had not spoken words of thanks, the way his lips slipped into a smile, the shock upon his face as he bent down to greet his new pokemon, was all she needed.

She opened her mouth to speak, but quickly closed it as she watched the interactions between the two.  Y/e/c eyes watched carefully with each action, admiring how quickly the new pokemon seemed to warm right up to Avery.  Though her gift would come with a great deal of work,

Watching the pokemon nuzzling into his hand warmed her heart, and the way Avery's smile practically lit the room sent her to another world.  It was Y/N's turn to be speechless, a soft tint of blush covering her face as she relished in the sight.  She watched as he lifted the pokemon in his arms, cradling it as it nuzzled into his chest as he stood to his feet in front of her.

"This may certainly be the most elegant thing anyone has ever done for me," he murmured as his cerulean eyes softened, catching y/e/c eyes once more.  "Thank you."  His actions were gentle and brief as he caught the woman off-guard, pressing a gentle kiss to her forehead.  "Would you care to assist in training?"

Her y/e/c eyes lit up, her cheeks reddened with blush as she quickly nodded.  "Nothing would make me happier," she replied softly.

Though she knew one day, she would have to say those three words outright, admit her infatuation with the elegant blond, she followed him back to the training field.  Simply being able to spend this time with him, and seeing the excitement upon his face, was all Y/N needed for now.
