“Are you sure there isn’t a special reason why we always go to the same place at the exact same time every day to get coffee?” Luke asked for the millionth time that day with a glint of teasely amusement present on his eyes from where he stared at Reggie throught the rearview mirror, “A certain employee, maybe?!”
Reggie rolled his eyes but couldn’t help the blush rising up his cheeks, “I already told you he has nothing to do with this, I just like this place, it’s a nice coffee shop” he shrugged
“It’s literally a starbucks” Alex intervined with a laugh, “There are like four more exactly the same around the area”
“Look the car moved, can we just go on please”
Luke sighed and hit the pedal as the line moved, probably too big for eight a.m at a Tuesday, and Reggie looked out the window at the Starbuck’s sign, Alex was right, there were way too many Starbucks on the area that they could go to -blame it on the constant need of caffeine to support the crazy speed of the life in LA- but Reggie would never admit to them that he, in fact, had chosen this one particularly because of a certain brown haired, guitar playing employee that just happens to work the morning shift on this particular establishment. No, he would never admit that, why would he do that, right?! Just so he could be teased for life?! No, thank you. And besides, their college isn’t even that far away from the appartmant that he shares with the boys, so on top of admitting that he wants to come to this particular Starbucks just to see Bobby -They had become regulars at this point and formed a friendship with the guy- he would have to admit that he makes the guys go to the drive-thru just so he can see Bobby without making a fool of himself, given that, apparently, he doesn’t seems to function properly when faced with a cute guy, being unable to do simple tasks like walking a straight line without looking like an infant giving their first steps or being able to form coherent sentences when his brain seems to have turned into mush. Which is really weird for him, Reggie was supposed to be the smooth one, the flirt, but the universe seems to have other plans for him on this one.
“Okay guys, we’re almost at the machine, it’s going to be the usual or you guys want to try something different today?!” Luke questioned as they approached the speaker.
“The usual for me, I need all the caffeine I can get” Alex said slupping at his seat, his body was still processing the fact he had, in fact, woken up today.
“Same”
“Alrighty” Luke opened his window and leaned a towards the speaker, “Morning, Bobby” he sing-song while shooting Reggie a teasing look throught the rearviwed mirror.
“Morning Luke” Bobby greated through the speaker, “What’s gonna be today?”
“We’re going with the usual”
“Ah, so you’re not feeling particular adventurous today?!” Bobby teased with a laugh, making Alex and Reggie snicker at the memory of Luke excitedly asking to change his order just to be faced with bitter disappointment in the form of a soulless drink.
“Nah man, that Americano really took a ton on my tastebuds, it was like drinking a coffee flavored water and it wasn’t even good coffee!” Luke grimace at the memory, “I need my sugar bomb to cure me from that trauma”
“I told you you woundn’t like it, but you didn’t listen”
“Okay, moving on!” Luke urged
“So” Bobby exclaimed, “ One Mocha Cookie Crumble Frappuccino for Luke, an Iced Honey Almond Milk Flat White with four shots of expresso for Alex and a Caramel Macchiato for Reggie. All size Grande.”
“You know us so well” Luke batted his lashes at the machine.
“Right, your total is $13,45. Cash?”
“Yep”
“Okay, just hold on a second ‘cause the line is crazy big today and people seem to be ordering coffee for a army so it might take a while”
“No worries bro”
And with that the speaker went silent and Luke turned around on his seat to face Reggie.
“Isn’t he just the cutest?”
Reggie groaned shoving his face on his hands, “Seriously, what’s wrong with you today? Am I the chosen one or something? Go poke fun of Alex for a change”
Luke shot Alex a mischevious look, “Nop, his day will come. Precisely, tomorrow when we go to the record store, a certain long-haired cashier hum” he nugged Alex seeing a blush coloring his cheeks despite of the glare present on his expression.
“Shut up. You know one day you’ll fall for someone too and we’ll be there to make fun of you for it” Alex threatned lighly
“As you should, that’s what best friends are supposed to do. I am just doing my job”
Reggie watched them bickering, enjoying the fact that the focus wasn’t on him anymore, but his happiness was short lived when Luke turned towards him again.
“Why don’t you just ask him out already? He knows our usual orders, that means we came here enough times already for you to grow some balls and talk to him”
“And what was I supposed to say? Hey Bobby, can I have your number even tho I beraly talk to you because you’re so beautiful that my brain turns into mush?!”
He saw the moment Luke’s expression turned into a smug smile and he knew he had said too much, damn, so much for keeping his mouth shut.
“So you do have a crush” Luke said excitedly as if he had solved a complicated investigation. Which wasn’t even the case, ‘cause even Reggie knows that he’s not the best at keeping things a secret from the guys.
“Alright, so I have a crush. It doesn’t mean anything” Reggie tried to brush it off
“Means something once you actually tell him” Luke said turning back around so they could go get their drinks.
“Okay I’m done with this conversation, can we just go please”
“Yeah, alright” Luke conceded as they made their way towards the cabine.
Once they got there, Reggie saw Bobby waiting by the window with a light blush coloring his face. It wasn’t usual for Bobby to be flushed, actually it was really hard to make that happen, but he looked beautiful nonetheless, the color acentuated his cheekbones and gave him a softer vibe and Reggie wished nothing more than to just be able cuddle him and kiss every inch of his lovely face.
“Wow was the last car that smooth to make big bad Bobby blush?!” Luke teased breaking Reggie out of his daydream and into reality again.
Bobby just gave him a unamused laugh with a side smile, before extending his hand.
Luke pulled five bills out of his pocked and handed it to him, “Keep the change”
“Thanks, 55 cents, I can almost pay for college tuition now” Bobby said drily earning a laugh from Alex and a smile from the other two, they all loved Bobby’s dry humor, but most of all Alex given the similarities with his own sarcastic self. “Here, I wanted to deliver this one personally” Bobby said as he got their order on a paper tray.
“Oh, how sweet of you” Luke said in a sickening sweet voice taking the tray and scanning it before exclaiming, “Hey where are my sugar packets?”
“New law bud, I can’t hand you any more sugar than that, we’re not allowed to kill our costumers”
“WHAT? Who invented that?”
“I did” Bobby said with a proud smile contrasting Luke’s frown, “But really I just wanted to warn you guys about something”
They all looked at him with confusion written all over their faces.
“You know when you’re near the speaker and you think it’s turned off or something?!” Bobby continued
“Um-hum” Luke nodded slowly
“Yeah, so as soon as you drive up to the speaker we hear a beep over the headsets and the transmission begins and it doesn’t turn off so I can hear everything you’re saying in your car, even if I put you on hold, I can still hear what you’re saying” Bobby finished with a playful smile watching each of their reactions, Luke was frozen as his eyes darted between Bobby’s face and the rearview mirror, a guilty look on his eyes, Alex was still in shock of the revelation and Reggie, poor Reggie, felt as is his heart had dropped into the pit of his stomach, shame and embarrasement wrapping itself around him like and unconfortable and overbearing blanket as he thought with dread that they would have to find another coffee to go to, as he wouldn’t have the strength to look Bobby in the eye ever again.
“That’s so creepy” Alex whispered stupefied, to which Bobby just shrugged.
“Um..” Luke cleared his throat, “Thanks for the info man, I guess we’ll be going now”
“Until next time guys, and Alex please tell Willie I said hi” Bobby said with too much entusiasm for the situation they were in, “And Reggie” he called out looking into the backseat, his smile softening, “Enjoy your coffee” he winks and closes the window, getting back to work.
Reggie’s heart stops before making a real attempt of beating right out of his chest when he sees that there is something written on the back of his cup, a smile grow so big on his face that soon his cheeks will start to hurt, but he couldn’t care less, his heart filled with warmth and hope for the rest of day, and he even thinks he might actually not try kill Luke this time.
“I think you’re beautiful too”
