Work Text:
Stiles has a problem.
Ok he has had a big amount of problems since high school started.
But this time, it definitely wasn't the supernatural-creature-trying-to-kill-him-and-his-friends the kinda commun problem that happens every year since his best friend got bitten and turned, but the werewolf-giving-him-headaches kinda one.
Look, he loves the pack, he really does! He's not the type to get beaten, assaulted, punched, flogged, tied up, tortured and… Well, lots of other synonyms and words! For anyone, ok?
Stiles can handle most of the werewolf things by now, because after a lot of trouble, arguments, some fights and punches, and a lot, he's not joking when he says A LOT, of talk, they're finally friends!
Even better! They're pack! And he's 1000% comfortable to say he loves his pack, but if there's something he loves as much, it's that little thing that he's already deprived of because of ADHD, called sleeping.
When Stiles gets hyperfocus all night because of some searching or he doesn't sleep because he forgets that he needs it (just like he forgets to eat sometimes) it's ok, it was his and his brains fault for not sleeping, you know? He can totally handle it! Ok, he can't get coffee because it will make him sleep in 20 minutes, but a 30 minutes nap will give him enough energy to not fall asleep at the classes he really likes (he will, you know, rest his head and eyes in the ones he doesn't give a fuck) and everything is fine!
But if Stiles wants to sleep, really wants it, and something doesn't let him, the probability of him burning a whole city down increases 10% per 10 minutes. And it's a really big percentage!
Now comes the problem: he loves to be in a pack puppy pile, but not if it means sleeping in one. Because he can't sleep in one.
He always ends up in the center, with Derek on his right side, with an arm around his waist too tight! Then came Isaac and Liam on both sides, Boyd liked to be on his other shoulder with Erica hooking on to him and Isaac. Scott and Kira liked to be on his legs and Derek's, while Theo was installed just below Isaac, and held Liam's hand over his belly. Lydia and Jackson got on the bottom of the pile, above everyone else.
Cool right? Comfy by the first 30 minutes.
A hell over night.
But his issues with it was: Stiles hated being confined, he hated not being able to move and it was obvious how he was the only one who almost 80% of the time was uncomfortable in his position and 100% of the time was left with muscle aches and a dark mood at dawn.
One more thing, they're always in a small space.
His bed? Terribly small!
His couch? Small AND uncomfortable!
Derek's one? Better, but still small.
Even Derek's bed wasn't enough!
Not enough space for the pile, no room to move, Stiles was slow to sleep and the wolves were so fucking hot! He almost melted from the heat! They lived in California for fuck sake not even in winter would he need such a warm human blanket!
Oh, he could live with the hottines (Temperature! TEMPERATURE!) if it was just one or two, maybe three if he thinks about Derek, Isaac and Liam, the alpha and two puppies, perfect!
But nooo he had to have, wait a minute he needs to count, Scott, Derek, Erica, Boyd… Ten. OH MY FUCKING GOD IT WAS TEN OF THEM BURYING HIM TO DEATH IN A PILE OF WEREWOLF CUBS!
He's so tired of this. But he couldn't, and wouldn't, dare to say he didn't want to make a pile anymore — Liam and Isaac would be so sad, he couldn't live with the puppy sad eyes they would give him. Erica would be pissed, Scott has puppy eyes too! Even Theo would be obviously sad about it- Gods!
He doesn't know if that will happen because the 'pack mom' joke stopped being ironic 6 months ago — and in the end, Stiles really doesn't give a fuck if they call him mom, dad or like, parent? The people who are responsible for them? He likes to have a title that means what it means, it's cool, makes him feel loved — and he really turned out to be the pack mom and they will be sad about their 'mom' don't liking the puppy pile or if he says that the pile makes him uncomfortable most of the time, even if he doesn't say he won't do it with them anymore, the silly pups will think it's some sort of order because they have it in their head-full-of-wind-and-nothing-more now.
So of course, Stiles, being Stiles, decided to solve the problem himself.
Stiles wanted to fix the problem so quickly that he went into hyperfocus for two whole days, researching big, comfy beds and sofas, seeing reviews on ten different websites about 15 different stores, shipping, pricing — although he would make Derek pay for everything, it was fair — but he wasn't satisfied with anything. He ended up also considering the needs of the wolves and took out his old supernatural notebook to see if he had missed anything important that could help him, he even looked up things about real wolves! Common packs of wolves!
Only to end up in some random rant about wolves and mating and how they took care of the cubs after they were born, and twenty minutes later he had an omegaverse tag page open on AO3 looking specifically about something he knew he'd read in his darkest moments from teenager — and maybe he reads one or two in the nights of insomnia — until he found it, it was actually pretty easy, one of the fanfics, one he wouldn't dare to remember the name because knowing what he was doing was embarrassing enough, was tagged with this simple word: nesting.
And it goes by all night, reading until next Monday morning, where he's so tired he looks like a real zombie.
But it was worth it, he knows what to do now.
And he will never say how.
~•~
"Dude, are you sure you're alive?", Scott shouted when sees him that morning, "Because you look like you got out of a grave before coming here."
Stiles doesn't even have the strength to roll his eyes. "Haha, real funny", And his voice is so tired and low that it makes the others get worried. "Hey, I may be tired but I know what these faces are, and it means silly puppies worrying about silly things. I'm fine."
Isaac leans toward him, whispering. "Mom, you don't look fine."
Now he rolls his eyes, affectionately annoyed. "I'm fine, puppy. Really. Just got into one of my hyperfocus this weekend."
"That explains why you didn't answer Derek's calls", He hear Erica whispering at his side. "You at least got him a message?"
"Of course I did", Stiles mumbled, swearing when he saw that the first class was history, he totally forgot about it, at least he could sleep. "He would go to my house if I didn't, and I wanted to focus on what I was doing."
"Dude, you just got focused like that if it's about a supernatural thing", Scott says, looking worried to him, "It's not a supernatural thing, right?"
"Technically, yes. But not a supernatural danger thing, just something I wanted to work on", he explains, yawning for a long time, sinking into the chair. "Boyd, sweet, can you pet my hair?"
Boyd, sitting behind him, gave him a simple and small smile. "Sure, mom."
After school, Stiles skips practice and goes right away to Derek's loft, which was now properly decorated and looking like someone lived in it, not a big dog. And Derek renovated two more rooms for Isaac and Erica and Boyd, while the other homeless, Theo Raken, decided to wait to have a room when the renovation of the Hale house was finished, which would take another month or two if there were no unforeseen events, so either he slept on the couch that was big enough for one and bad enough for ten, or he stayed at Liam's.
All his puppies are busy with something, lacrosse, studying, working half periods, so he had enough time to spend with his dark sexy alpha boyfriend while buying the things he will need for the next pack night, on Wednesday.
"Derek!", He shouts coming in on the loft, all of them had a spare key, most for emergencies, the ones who live there and Stiles are the only ones that supposedly can come in without a warning. "Derek, where are you?"
Normally the sound of the jipe and his voice are enough to make him show up.
"Maybe he's out? His car is in the garage though…", He mumbles, confused, leaving his dirty shoes on the door, before coming into the living room, "Maybe taking a bath?"
In the end, Derek was taking a nap with his noise-canceling headphones he'd left there for Isaac to use every now and then, he made a lot of tastes to guarantee the sound to be at least significantly lower than what they normally hear, it made heaven against Isaac's hard sleeping time.
It made heaven for both of them when the noise was too much. Stiles was lucky to not have that super hearing that comes in the super werewolf powers kit.
Knowing pretty well that Derek still could hear him if he was loud enough in the room, Stiles closed the door and went back a few steps, then he walked to the room loudly, making every step like a really loud 'Tap!' and then 'Tap! Tap!' even louder, all the way to his door, making it level per level higher.
"Derek?!", His voice was blaming, 3 levels higher than what he would use with werewolves, if he's not terribly scared or there's someone trying to kill him. He makes a very noisy 'knock knock' at the door, and waits if he can hear something inside.
He could hear an 'arf', a sound really close to what he hears dogs do.
Great, he's waking up!
Stiles giggled, he knew it would work! His dad does it when he uses his headphones and he started doing the same after seeing Isaac so scared when Lydia, months ago, screamed with him to get his attention, he taught all of them what to do if he or Issac were using the headphones and it was a total success.
Of course he would do the same with Derek, especially with him sleeping, he would never make him wake up scared.
He couldn't. Something inside him thinks it's unacceptable.
"Derek?!", He kept up with the tone, opening the door and the door. "Derek?! Oh, napping?!"
Slowly, he opens his eyes, with his daily grimace a little angrier than usual, but certainly a lot calmer than he would have been if he'd been scared. "Sti… Stiles?"
"The only and one!", Derek took off the headphones and Stiles jumped in the bed. "Had a bad sleep last night, big guy? You usually hate taking naps."
Stiles pet his hair, Derek growls slowly and calmly, just a sound coming from his chest. "No, just a headache."
The boy frowned. "You're a wolf, Derek. You don't get headaches."
"I still can get disturbed with noise."
"Got a rough time doing groceries?"
For some reason, Derek liked to do groceries on Monday morning, because people are lazy on Monday mornings, and are everywhere else, but not the supermarket, it's usually just what the kitchen is lacking on, because he does the monthly grocery trip with Stiles — because he never gets anything that are good and healthy.
Those idiots would live with cup noodles and fast food if he lets them without supervision, and no, he's not letting them get a stroke so young.
"Yes, there's a noisy construction…"
"All constructions are noisy.", He replied quickly.
Derek rolled his eyes. "You understand."
Stiles laughed. "I got it, sourwolf."
Derek starts to get up, stretches his shoulders. "What are you doing here? It's early."
Of course he knows without looking at a clock, everyone comes home at least seven pm, and there's just them in the loft. "I didn't sleep these past days, so I skipped lacrosse.", He lay on his bed, nuzzling on his sheets. "I was hoping you could go to Macy's with me…"
"Macy's?", Derek frowns. "Why?"
"Hum, need to buy some things for the house", He mumbled, hugging the pillow with Derek's cologne. "You would pay, of course, because it's for the pack, so-"
"The cubs asked you for something?"
"No… I just- Well, I-", Stiles huffed into his pillow, tired and a little stressed. "It's just... I need some stuff. For the pack. Like, fluffy sheets and soft pillows.", He stops for a minute or two, enough for Derek to start to think he falled asleep, then he looks at him. "Do you have, like, a old big-big mattress?"
Frowning, and with a grimace that screams 'confuse!', Derek shook his head. "No.", Stiles looked so distressed about it that Derek had to make something. "But we can get one.", Stiles eyes shined with hope and joy, "I just want to know why you need all of it."
The boy pondered for a moment, pursing his lips tightly, pressing the pillow to his chest even tighter. After considering the condition, he nodded in agreement.
"Fine", He says, flustering a bit. "But let me finish, ok?", Derek nodded, Stiles tapped his side in the bed, and waited for him to sit down. "Do you… Do you have the slightest idea why I'm so… mad, after sleeping with the pack?"
The alpha didn't say anything for long seconds, the grimace getting worse and worse. "No, you never look like that after sleeping with me. Or when Isaac sneaks in between us."
"So, when is the only time I get really mad about something?"
Derek quickly answered. "When someone gets your food or eats too much junk food.", Stiles raised an eyebrow, 'am I wrong though?' it says, so Derek tries again. "When you want to sleep, but the puppies are loud?"
The boy smiled. "Yes! You know that I hate when something interrupts when I sleep, right?!", Derek nodded, it was him who made them go low after one of his overnight searches. "It's worse when it doesn't let me sleep, right?!"
"Yeah, you get all grumpy and your mouth gets more dirty when it happens."
Oh, his sourwolf knows him so well! He could die of happiness. "And when am I usually like that?!"
"After puppy piles, and I don't understand w-", He suddenly stops, realization coming so fast in his mind that his jaw dropped, Derek was stunned. "Because you don't sleep."
"Not because I don't, I can't!", Stiles boomed. "I love being surrendered by our puppies, I really do! But we're always in small places, and I can't move one single finger! Sometimes I couldn't even breathe! I feel suffocated! And it's so hot! I hate the heat, I get all stick and- and-", He bit his lip until blood came out. "Gods, I already cried because I was panicking! But you all sleep like a stone while in a pack pile."
"I thought you had a nightmare."
"Sometimes I do! When I finally sleep, my brain decides to remember- Remember of-"
All the times I got torture, when it was hurting so bad, when my ribs were broken and I couldn't breathe- he couldn't say it, Derek didn't need him to say it either. He just grabs his mate and hugs him, tightly, but gently. Letting him put his arms around his back, Stiles hides his face on his neck and Derek scenting him. He hugs Stiles the way he likes most.
They stayed that way for a while, Derek scented him so bad the pups would be worried when they got home. But Derek held him tight in his arms and whispered a tune in his ear, soothing him. Stiles need a long time to finally be able to let go, sniffing and whimpering a bit.
"I'm sorry…"
"It's ok, Stiles."
"No, it's not!"
"Yes, it is. It's ok feeling like that, but you should've told us. And I should've noticed it too.", He strokes your back. "But it's going to be ok, because now I know how you feel."
Stiles snorts, "But I want to make piles, I love them…"
Derek smiled at him, something that wasn't that rare anymore. "And knowing who you're, I'm sure you've already thought of how to solve this."
Oh, he really knows him well.
~°~
The trip to Macy's have to stay to the next day, because Derek made him get a nap before the kids come back for dinner and Stiles sleepy means food being on fire — and Derek already had one experience with that and he hope it will be the only one — so Tuesday after school, Stiles skips lacrosse again, but this time he left the jipe keys with Boyd 'so JackJack wouldn't say shit about taking you guys home' and Derek was already waiting for him outside.
"Still don't know what you're doing.", Derek snarls after one hour and half of choosing sheets — because some materials apparently had some weird smells that the wolves don't like and Stiles says the texture should be good too. "You didn't tell me what you pretended to do with all of these sheets, and you made me buy two new mattresses!"
Two enormous mattresses by the way. When they're looking for it, the bigger one wasn't enough to satisfy Stiles, Derek was talking all grumpy about it now, but didn't think twice before buying two of it.
"It's necessary, I promise!", Stiles yelled happily running to some plushies, because apparently he was trying to make it super 'fluffy and comfortable'. What does it mean? Derek has no idea. "Derek! Derek! You think JackJack or Isaac will like this one?"
It was a dragon, he didn't have to think twice. "Both. Take two."
It was like they bought one plush for every one of the pups.
And when it was almost dinner time, Stiles finally said they're finished. And he was so satisfied with buying all of those things he made a delicious dinner with dessert! He never makes dessert on Tuesdays! But no one had the courage to ask him about it.
On Wednesday, there's no lacrosse and everyone likes to come early to help clean the living room and choose the movies and help Stiles in the kitchen — even if just Kira, Boyd and Theo are allowed to do it, Lydia would never and the rest couldn't cook to survive. Usually they easily fall into routine, a nice rhythm to tidy up before going to bed and watching the movies.
But this time things are a bit strange.
It started when they came home and the living room was pretty much empty.
Stiles blinked, less surprised than the others. "Oh, you already moved the couch? Thought you would wait till we arrive."
Derek shrugs. "It's not like I need help to move a couch."
Stiles giggled and went to Derek, gave him a quick kiss. "Thanks, babe."
"Huh… Mom?", Liam calls. "Why did dad take the sofa off?"
"Oh, I will make a place for us to sleep today."
He said it as if it wasn't, to say the least, a weird phrase. Stiles still hadn't talked about not being comfortable in the pile of puppies with them, and Derek had kept the bags in his room, hidden from the others, as Stiles wanted to surprise them with the stuffed animals.
"You will… make a place for… the pile?", Kira tried, because everyone was obviously confused.
Stiles nodded. "I hate the small places you guys choose to make the pile. I'm just a human, you know? I got muscle aches!"
"Really?", Lydia asked, already adjusting the temperature of the house. "That explains why you're always grumpy when you wake up."
Derek looked at him, raising his eyebrows. Stiles knew what he was asking, so he just shook his head and smiled at him,
"It's ok.", He said, before going to the kitchen so he could make something sweet for them to eat.
Thirty minutes later, he had two cakes in the oven and Erica was the one responsible for taking it out because he wouldn't remember, he had already sent Theo to buy ice cream with Isaac and Liam.
Then, someone yells. "Papa!"
That's the other way they call him, but it depends on who of them and the mood.
"Yes, Scotty?", He asks, making the chocolate filling for the cake.
Immediately, Scott responded. "Jackson won't let me put Frozen on the stack!"
Stiles sighed, couldn't they ask Derek for help? Scott must think that just because he doesn't like the movie he won't let him put it on the DVD pile? And honestly, he should make Derek buy some streaming service at once. Who still uses DVD? "JackJack"
It took a bit for him to answer. "Yeah?"
"Last time we let you and Lydia put The Notebook on the stack, leave Scotty alone", He heard a loud snort and something thudding, then Erica's loud laugh. Stiles smiled, Jackson used to be a little more stubborn before he obeyed, but eight months ago none of them even listened to him. "Thank you, sweetie."
When the cakes were ready and everything was almost done, Stiles finally left the kitchen and looked to the empty living room. "Derek?", He looks to the alpha, who just nodded and left the room. "So, puppies, I don't want you to stare at me, ok? I will get nervous if you do it."
"Don't worry, papa.", Theo said, in a corner of the room, reading a book about insects with Liam. "We're not going to stare if you don't do anything super weird."
Stiles stuck out his tongue, Theo did the same back to him.
Then Derek comes back with the mattresses, making everyone frown, he places it on the floor in the center of the room — on top of a tarp, otherwise Stiles would throw a tantrum. Then he goes ao come back faster this time, with five bags of everything they bought yesterday.
Stiles quickly ran to him, taking one of the bags. "Did you scent it?"
"Yes, just don't know why you want it."
Stiles rolled his eyes in amusement, "Well, my sourwolf, maybe I can't smell it, but our puppies can and they feel safe with your scent."
"What you gonna do with all of that?", Jackson asked for all of them.
Stiles started taking it off the bags, and putting on the mattresses. "Just wait, ok?"
As Stiles didn't want to make anything ugly or not sturdy, during his research he learned techniques for pillow forts and trained with house sheets. He also already had an idea of how he wanted to make it and while shopping he not only thought about the needs of his sense of smell and touch and that of the wolves, but also thought about how he would use each material in the construction.
He knew that thinking was different from doing and it was no surprise when he started arranging the sheets and pillows on top of the mattresses that he found some difficulty, mainly because of the large space.
Derek was watching it all along with the puppies who were whispering to each other, confused as to what he was trying to build and why he hadn't asked for help. But Derek had something else in mind besides that, with every pillow piled up and sheet folded to form the 'walls', he felt like he'd seen something like this before, but where? When?
It all started to make sense when Stiles accidentally kicked one of the bags, causing one of the fluffy pillows to roll to Erica's feet. She eyed the carrot-shaped pillow with a frown, bent down and picked it up, squeezing it halfheartedly.
"Hey, papa human", She spoke, walking close to Stiles, Erica was obviously planning on going inside the sheet wall. "You missed this-"
Stiles turned aggressively, a strange uncomfortable sound flooding the room like thunder, it was grunting, angry, but at the same time it gave them an 'out of shape'... A growl coming from a human's throat. that never growled before. It was like the first growls they gave when wanting to growl, but definitely made of pure…
Instinct.
Derek looked at all the pages of the situation in the blink of an eye. The biggest issue with Stiles and the piles are because there's no room to move. The space was the main issue of everything.
So he felt the need to make a big, comfy and fluffy place for them to sleep together. He looked at Stiles, he was in a position to attack, not only that, to protect.
A position that reminds him of Laura in his childhood, after a big disaster day at school and she wanted to snuggle and he was being the brat little brother he was back then. And the 7 years old Derek made the stupid decision to mess up with her nest.
Oh fuck.
"Nobody moves. Erica", Derek gulped, Erica turned her head, slowly, becoming scared with all the worry in his voice. "Come back, slowly, and leave the pillow."
"Derek, what's the problem?", Lydia demands an answer.
Erica takes a step back, but Stiles's growl paralyzes her again. "Drop the pillow.", Derek mutters, not wanting to scare anyone else away.
Since she had her hand a little raised, the pillow didn't fall close to her, so she took a step back, and another, and another… Until her back hit Boyd's chest. Stiles picked up the pillow and placed it inside what Derek now knew to be a nest and the room heaved a joint sigh.
Erica gulped, stuttering. "W… What was that?"
"He's making a nest.", He muttered, sighing.
"Dude, what?!", Scott exclaimed, confusion all over his face.
"It's when-"
"Sourwolf, where's the dragons?" Stiles interrupts him, like nothing wrong had happened five minutes ago, the pack looks at him with widened eyes and weird faces, so of course, he notices after a moment. "What's the problem? You don't like dragons anymore?"
"Dude…", He couldn't even say who called him, because it was almost everyone.
Stiles dropped the pillow on his hands, sitting better to look at them. "Ok, guys. You're scaring me."
"You scared us first!", Isaac shouted, suddenly hiding behind Derek, anyone knows how or when he got there. "You're growling to us!"
Stiles made a face that obviously tells he thinks Isaac is going insane, but with the nods of the others, he got concerned. "Guys, come on. I would remember, and besides, it would sound ridiculous, because, remember it, I'm human!"
"Micha."
Derek called, Stiles didn't like when he used this pet name, because he was going to say something that would make him all flustered and melting that he doesn't want his pups to hear it, never.
Or he's going to say something that will probably upset him.
"Sourwolf, last time you called me like this was because Liam got a whole coven of necromancers witchers mad at us.", Stiles remarked.
"I already said sorry!", Liam whimpered, crumbling against Theo. "Can't you forget it?"
"Oh, baby. No one is mad at you, I'm just stating a fact about our alpha here.", Stiles was quick to calm the puppy. "So, Derek?"
Derek sighed, thinking why he didn't notice it while they're buying sheets perfect for a nest or when he asked him to scent them, but he took a breath, and spoke. "You did growl at us when Erica was going inside the… nest."
Stiles really looked disturbed by that, looking at the construction in full swing around him, the mattresses had a wall of pillows and sheets folded and stretched, millimetrically arranged so they wouldn't fall off with the slightest touch, a bunch of pillows and soon it would be full of plushies also.
"N-nest? Y-You think this is a nest?! N-no! It's not! I-I'm not doing a nest!", he stuttered, not knowing what to do with his hands, looking around the nest, in all the letters, Stiles was so nervous, his heartbeat was so fast it scared the others. "What stupid idea you got, Derek! Why would I-"
Stiles turned around, growling out of nowhere.
Well, they thought of first, but Jackson was about to kick a corner of the sheets, and he smiled like he stated a fact. "Stiles, if this isn't a nest, I'm the Queen of England."
Stiles couldn't even get mad with how he felt confused. "Tha' fuck was this?"
"And how would you know what a nest looks like?", Erica asked, the situation starting to bother her.
"Because his reptile ass makes nests.", Lydia tells them, totally unbother about all that, just looking to her nails, looking for anything wrong.
When the girls eye's meet, they snarl.
"Erica! Lydia! Not the time!" Stiles shouted, making both stop. "So… Derek, all mighty born werewolf, tha' fuck was that?!"
Derek sighed, regretting all his life choices for a moment. "First, how did you decide to make a nest?"
"I…", His face flustered, and he coughed a bit, embarrassed. "Remember when I said I got a hyperfocus last weekend? I got it trying to find a solution about the puppy pile issue."
"What issue?", Liam asked, confused as the rest of them.
"Stiles doesn't like to sleep in the pile, he feels confined because of the small space.", Derek explains to all of them. "So he was trying to solve the problem by himself."
Stiles sighed, pounding. "So, I started looking for comfy beds and couches, but nothing looked good enough, I felt like… something was missing.", He crosses his arms. "Then I looked up my supernatural book, to see if something could give me an idea… Somehow I ended up watching videos about common wolves and the word 'nesting' came up at some point, and…", Stiles shrugs, trying to find the words, not wanting to tell them about researching in fanfics on AO3. "It was like, when you find something you missed, you know?"
Yes, they know. Kinda.
"So you felt that nesting was the solution?", Isaac tries, frowning. "Even before searching specifically about it?"
Stiles nodded a few seconds later, thinking for a while. "Yeah… I mean, the word immediately got my attention, so I searched it up? And… I liked that? I felt it was worth trying?", He frowned, feeling confused now, he didn't give much thought about it before. "And buying all of this… I felt so great. It seems… right."
"Because it is.", Jackson states, crossing his arms. His ears get painted red like every time they do when he's embarrassed. "When I nest is usually because I'm overwhelmed, or something happened. It's comfortable, soft, and warm… It feels safe. It feels right. And it's supposed to, I think."
"But… Why do I feel like that?"
"I can answer that", Derek finally spoke again. "What Jackson said is right, besides normally nests are made when the wolves are getting new cubs, sometimes they do it because they need comfort and a warm and safe place to rest. Laura did it one time, she had a terrible day at school, she transformed by accident and hurt a girl, so when she got home, she immediately made a nest. I was a little shit as a kid, and messed it up, if mom wasn't close I probably would have just one eye… Or would be dead.
"I don't get why.", Kira mumbled.
"Because the owner of the nest is very protective of it. I didn't know that time and definitely learned my lesson", Derek replied. "As for you, Stiles… I think your nescessessity of nesting is pretty much my fault."
"Your fault?"
Derek nodded. "Yes, because we're mated, but you're human and I already have a lot of cubs… The bond would make you want to, at least, treat them well, but you love them much before mating me, and have been the clue of the pack for a long time… My dad said he was mated with mom for three years before showing any wolfish instincts. I'm impressed you did it in six months."
"Nesting is a basic werewolf thing.", Stiles acknowledged, nodding his head. "So what do we do now?"
"You idiot!", Jackson snarls, "You finish your nest and let us in so we can watch movies and sleep!"
Stiles looked up at Derek, who smiled and nodded in agreement. Now aware of how the chicks were watching him and how he was acting, Stiles got a little more shy, but soon he was stretching and folding sheets, adjusting here and there, doing everything necessary for the nest to be super comfortable, warm and safe.
Stiles finished tidying up while the puppies fought over the pizza flavors — since he wasn't in the mood for elaborate foods, and come on, pizza rolls could solve everything, so when he finished assembling the nest before they decided, he suggested the rolls. and they easily accepted that they would order some of each of their favorites. Derek looked at him as if he were the savior of the country, as he's terrible at getting the pack to agree on one thing.
Finally, the nest was finished. The pups looked carefully, closing in on Stiles and Derek's watchful eye.
"Come in already!"
He yelled, making the puppies start coming inside the nest and laying down beside each other. It was big, definitely, and the sheets are super soft, so they loved it. Besides, every one of them had something to snuggle with — Stiles and Derek as good pack dad's choose carefully what plushies their puppies would like, and fortunately, Jackson and Isaac didn't fight about the dragons, because they're the same.
Even the colors.
With the first movie already on TV, the pups huddled around Derek and Stiles in the center, there was a reason why Derek put the mattresses against the wall, it was ideal for them to lean on to watch the movie without a stiff neck afterwards. Derek instructed the pups not to completely huddle on Stiles and paid close attention to his mate not feeling trapped again, and when he saw Stiles smiling fondly at the puppies, he felt peaceful and satisfied.
The night went well, and when they started to drift off to sleep, nestled against the sheets and each other, having room to roll around and with Stiles looking so peaceful with Isaac on his chest, they both slept while Stiles' hand was tucked in. in the blond curls, Derek smiled at his pack and decided he could sleep too.
Lydia discovered how exactly Stiles got the idea of making a nest one week after, and no one shut up about it for a month.
Stiles almost making them grounded, because it wasn't funny anymore, if one growl from Derek hadn't made them stop and apologize immediately.
Fortunately, they would just tease him about time from time for now on.
