Moonlight

Summary:

A musing on the ancient, chaotic, and alien nature of Hecate, the triple goddess of crossroads and witchcraft.

(I was very sad on June 24th, 2022; and I needed some Hecate.)

Work Text:

The phases of the moon in a line in a night sky that melts into a black water pool below, with the full moon's reflection and one yellow eye beneath the surface.

The goddess of crossroads:
A still pool of darkness
Reflecting only the moon
Though in the water's depths
Something ancient looks out.

A mirror with a dark surface, in front of two other similar mirrors. The central mirror reflects dimly two yellow eyes.

The goddess of witchcraft:
A darkened mirror 
Reflecting only shadows
Of what currently is;
Obscuring the shadows
Of what once was.

Hecate in her full god form with three heads, six arms, and a crescent moon over her head, dancing with arms outstretched. The foreward-most head looks at the viewer and extends a hand towards them.

The triple goddess of night:
Singing an ode to chaos,
Dancing in the light of a reflected moon,
Veiled by the shadows of only what currently is.
