Sloane kind of liked having her bedroom close to the bathroom. She didn’t have to walk quietly down a dark hallway in the middle of the night and risk waking one of her siblings up. She could also make sure that all of her siblings were okay. So when she heard Jayme coughing and sniffling in the bathroom she immediately got down from her place on the ceiling and went to go check on her. She stepped out of her room as Jayme left the bathroom.
“Jayme, are you feeling okay? You sound sick.” She knew the answer anyways, but it felt weird to not ask beforehand.
“I’m.. fine. Maybe a little under the weather. But it’s just.. nothing to worry about.” Jayme could sense Sloane’s panic and her loss of breathe between words didn’t help either.
“I’m fine.. really.. I just can’t sleep.. it’s fine.” Jayme would kill to get some sleep now, but her aching head and inability to breath through her nose made it difficult.
Sloane reached down and put the back of her hand on Jayne’s forehead. Jayme swayed a bit from side to side but kept herself upright. She may feel more than a bit lightheaded but she didn’t want Sloane to know that.
“Here go lay down in my bed, I’ll get you medicine to take. And don’t think you’re going to get out of it Jayme! I know you don’t like how it tastes but you have to take it.” Sloane trailed on quietly as she got cold medicine from the bathroom cabinet. Jayme gagged a bit but the sound of her sisters bed sounded very comforting right now.
Sloane returned with medicine and a cold cloth for Jayne’s head. Sloane poured the medicine into the small plastic cup and held it out for Jayme. Lips sealed and arms crossed Jayme ignored the cup being given to her.
“Jayme… you have to take it or else you’re not going to get better. Do you want to keep feeling bad?” If her head wasn’t feeling so foggy she would’ve commented on how she always felt bad, about how maybe she’ll feel better when she gets a break from everyone. But instead she shook her head no and slowly took the medicine from Sloane.
She spared a nervous glance between the cup and Sloane before quickly swallowing it and twisting her face at the flavor.
“Thank you, Jayme. Here put this on your head while I get ready for bed.” Sloane gently put the cold cloth on Jayme’s forehead and left to do her nightly routine before bed. Jayme curled up in her sister’s blankets with her hood over her eyes.
Sloane finished as quick as she could before going back in, turning all the lights off and getting back into bed.
“Jayme.. I know you’re like.. a snake woman or something but you can’t really slither around when you’re in bed with someone else.” Sloane had to giggle at that. Jayme popped out from under the blankets to leave the cloth on the bedside table while glaring at her sister. Sloane full on laughed now before Jayme curled into her side and passed out.
Sloane held Jayme’s face in her hands and happily held her as she fell asleep.
