Work Text:

“Excuse me Sir?” Your voice snapped Hyunjin out of his trance. He blushed knowing you caught him staring at you. You politely smiled at him, “Do you need anything else?”, you ask him patiently. Looking behind him, the line is longer but he need to take this opportunity. He needs to be sure you are the Y/N he knows. He looked again at the menu, his hand under his chin, thinking, or maybe stalling. Stealing a glance at your name tag, written in bold letters, Y/N. You are indeed Y/N. The woman behind him groaned, “Geez. Just order something if not get out of the line,” clearly annoyed at him.

You looked behind him, smiling politely at the woman. You looked back at him, still smiling, waiting for him to decide. “None,” he finally answered. You quietly sigh while punching his order. He paid it with a card, accidentally brushing your hands with his. He clears his throat, asking himself why is he nervous in front of you. When you are the one who had a crush at him a long time ago.

“Your order will be out soon. We’ll call your name when it’s done. What’s your name Sir?” asking him, a pen in hand, ready to take it note of it. Maybe you’ll remember him. “Hyunjin. It’s Hyunjin,” he answered, gauging at your reaction. But all you did is write his name on the cup and attend to the woman earlier.

Y/N doesn’t remember me.

Going back at the cafe everyday just to see if you’ll remember is a silly thing to do but Hyunjin did it anyway. For a week, he visits the cafe, hoping that you’ll be the one who’ll get his order. They are just few instances in which you just smile at him, politely and patiently, but no remembering.

You tap his shoulders, surprising him, “Sorry. But it’s already closing time,” informing him. He looked around and he’s the only customer left. He immediately gathered his books and laptop. “I’m sorry,” he apologizes, smiling sheepishly. “No worries Hyunjin,” you said so casually, like you know him for a long time. Hyunjin looked at you puzzled. It’s the first time you called him by his name, for a week even though you writes his name automatically on the cup without asking him his name, you still call him Sir. You swallowed the lump in your throat then smiled at him.

He is maybe wrong but he still wants to test the waters. “You seem really familiar,” he looked at your name tag, “Y/N”. You laugh nervously, “My face is generic so… yeah,” you said to him. “No. You’re L/N Y/N, right?” he asked you, grinning, waiting for you little aha. “Yes. That’s my name,” you gasped. “We are classmates back in college,” he said to you. “Oh. College,” disappointment evident in your face, “Sorry. I got in an accident after college. I don’t actually remember anything,” you said backing away from him and walkign away. You left him baffled. You got in an accident? When?

He felt guilty with what he did so he decided to wait around the corner of the alley, he knew it was the back door for employees, to apologize to you. He must have brought up something you don’t to talk about with the way you left him.

“Holy Shit!”, he heard something and peeked at the corner to see if someone’s in trouble. And that someone is you, hands in your hair, frustrated, “Amnesia?! Really Y/N?”. It really got him interested so he eavesdrops more. “It’s not even creative,” you sigh. You fix your hair, “He must have felt bad,” looking at the wall in front of you. “No. It’s okay. He’ll stop coming to the cafe,” you said reassuring yourself.

“That’s what I’ll do,” he said, catching your attention, coming out of his hiding place, “before I heard your little monologue”. He felt bad for you but you lied to him. Now, he is ready to show you you shouldn’t messed with him. Standing straight, you fix your hair more. “How long have you been standing there?” you ask him, your eyebrows knitting in frustration. “Long enough to know you are lying,” he said smirking at you. You scoffed at him, still the same Hyunjin you knew back in college. “Well,” you said turning your back at him. You must flee now so you can avoid the confrontation.

“Not too fast Y/N,” he said, holding the strap of your bag, stopping you. You face him, rolling your eyes, “What do you want?”. “Explanation. Why did you lie to me?” he asked, genuinely curious of your reason. Resigning, knowing that you should just tell the truth, “Oh my gosh Hyujin! What do you expect me to say to you after you rejected me and humiliated me in front of people?”, you said annoyed at him. Taking your bag from his hold, “Hi Hyunjin. How are you? It’s good to see you again,” you said with sarcasm in your voice. He scoffed at you too, “You really hated me to the point you’ll lie to me,” he said rolling his eyes at you. Still the sassy Hyunjin. You smile a tight lipped smile at him, “Yes!”.

He is surprised that you can hold a grudge against him for a long time. "I’m sorry,” he apologizes. Maybe the reason he thinks about you a lot after he rejected you was the way he humiliated you. He admits that he was harsh to you back then and he never got a chance to apologize.

You are surprised that he can say the words ‘sorry’. You don’t want to accept it but with the way he is looking at you, you think to yourself that it is a long time ago anyway. He looks so genuinely sorry. “I’m sorry,” also apologizing to him, “for lying,” biting your lower lip.

Hyunjij smiles at you and you smiled back. “Yeah. I’ll get going now,” you said after a moment of silence. You turned you back at him and started walking. Still the Hyunjin I know.

You stopped at your tracks and turned around again, seeing that Hyunjin is still looking at you. “It is really nice seeing you again… Hyunjin,” you said to him, nodding. Still the Y/N I know, honest. Hyunjin smile widens, “Bye”, you said to him. He waves his hand, “See you around.”
