Imagine this, you walk into a house, expecting voices far too loud and too much laughter to echo through the house. But what you find is an empty and quiet house. Then, yelling, shouting, and screaming. You see two strangers who were supposed to be older brothers packing their stuff and leaving. Walking out the door like they had never been here before. Back then, you were 8. As you grew, you waited, and waited, and waited for the day that they would come back through the front door. Wanting, longing, needing to have them here with you. They left no happy birthdays, no happy Thanksgivings, and no merry Christmas’. Then, when you turned 14, they suddenly walked right through that door. Tried going back to that older brother role, like they had never left. Imagine going through all that, without a father to help you get back on your feet. Without a mother to hold you at your lowest. To smile and laugh with you like there would be no tomorrow. Imagine that.
