Work Text:

Ineffable Love.

“To the world”, Crowley spoke with his glass raised for a toast. “To the world”, Aziraphale raised his glass and touched it to Crowley’s. The glasses made a clang as they hit together, they brought them back and each took a considerable sip of the champagne that filled the cups.

Aziraphale put his glass back onto the table and began to speak, “Crowley, I thank you for bringing me out to lunch.”
“Oh really it’s no problem.” Crowley shrugged it off, this was something he did for Aziraphale often.

“Next time we stop Armageddon it’s my treat to lunch.” Aziraphale added, Crowley chuckled a bit and smiled. Crowley pulled a wallet out of his back pocket and laid a few bills on the table as he rose from his chair. Aziraphale quickly followed and stood up next to the table. The two made their way to the door, Aziraphale held the door for Crowley.
“You first.”
Crowley gave him a slightly surprised look, but ended up going out first. They emerged from the Ritz into the afternoon glow of the sunlight.

A few seconds of silence as they walk down the street. Aziraphale breaks the silence and asks Crowley if he’d like to,
“Have some bread and wine at his bookshop”, which is just his way of asking Crowley to hangout. Crowley accepts his invitation and offers a lift to Aziraphale's book shop.

“Here we are.” Aziraphale spoke as he unlocked the doors, Crowley followed in after him. Aziraphale showed him to the loaf of bread he had made. He of course also grabbed them two wine glasses and filled them with a delicately aged wine Aziraphale owned. Crowley took a seat on the couch that appeared to be where Aziraphale slept, and leaned back putting his feet up on the desk next to it.

Aziraphale handed Crowley a glass full of the antique wine and Crowley took a sip, chasing it with a bite of bread. “So Aziraphale, since we’ve been exiled from our sides.. I guess were on our own now.” Crowley looked at Aziraphale with a certain sheen in his eyes. Aziraphale gave Crowley a somber look and stood up from his chair. “I’ve been giving that some thought,” He spoke in a quiet soft tone, “And I suppose so.” Aziraphale gave Crowley the best smile he could muster, and Crowley gave him one right back.

“I’m still slightly in shock about the whole stopping Armageddon thing.” Aziraphale admits.
“Though I do believe it’s due to your quick thinking with Adam.”
“Well I couldn’t bear to lose you for a second time.” Crowley adds. Though Crowley seemed to miss the way Aziraphales mouth opens with a slight shock.
“Just thinking about it brings me down, really.” Crowley looked up and sees Aziraphale’s expression.
“What?” He asks.
“Oh, nothing.” Aziraphale responds, snapping out of his daze.

“Angel, can I say something?” Crowley asks, a gleam in his eyes more than usual.
“Go right ahead.” Aziraphale beams at Crowley.
“I just wanted to say how thankful I am for having you as a friend, my only friend really.” Crowley laughs his statement off like it’s nothing as Aziraphale smiles at him.
“Y’know Crowley, i’ve never quite had a friend like you. You’ve always had my back, even at the most unexpected times.” Aziraphale shot back at Crowley. Crowleys gaze rose from the floor to meet Aziraphale’s eyes, a twinge of surprise in his expression. Crowley made sure to not let the surprise linger on as he cuts in,
“Oh you know it’s really nothing. I always help a friend in need.”
“Even the measly books you saved during WWII?”
Crowley pauses with his mouth open, then speaks.
“Well I wasnt just gonna let your books get burn to a crisp, now would I?”
“I suppose not..” Aziraphale trails off.

The room stays quiet for a split second as Aziraphale built up the courage to say what had been on his mind since those books in WWII.
“Crowley, I believe I may have something to tell you.” He ends the sentence with a particular slowness to his words.
“Ever since those books you saved from the church collapse, i’ve felt… different.. about you.” Aziraphale stumbles over his words a bit and anxiety starts to eat away at his stomach.
“I felt it before then too but it took that for me to realize it. Crowley-“ Aziraphale gets cut off by Crowley as he states,
“C’mon Angel. It’s only taken 6 millennia for you to say something.”

Aziraphale didn’t know how to react, he just stood there in complete shock. Crowley on the other hand, stood up and took a few steps forward, now only a foot away from Aziraphale.
“We’re on our own side now, Angel.” Crowley spoke before putting a finger underneath Aziraphale’s chin and pulling him into a kiss. Aziraphale’s body tenses with a chill but soon relaxes into the pull of Crowley’s body. They split only for seconds to get air before colliding again.

Moments later they crash into Aziraphale’s couch, Crowley making a quick attempt to unbutton Aziraphale’s vest. Aziraphale throws the vest to the side and Crowley removes his jacket. Crowley leans down fast to lay a kiss on the edge of Aziraphale’s lips. Aziraphale lays his head back against the arm rest of the couch. Crowley kisses down his neck, causing Aziraphale to bow his head back and let out a small moan. Crowley gives him a smirk and Aziraphale looks away in embarrassment.

Crowley gently turns Aziraphale’s head back to him with his hand and brings him into a long tender kiss. After they let go Aziraphale lets out a long breath, closing his eyes. Crowley lets himself rest onto the angels chest.
“Lets do that again sometime.” Aziraphale says, breaking the mellow silence of the place.
“Yeah, lets.” Crowley follows. Aziraphale soon drifts into a sleep, with Crowley still atop him.

i have no idea how they ended up at crowleys place dont ask.

|The next morning|

Aziraphale opened his eyes in the morning, not to his bookshops warm morning tones, but to Crowleys stone cold walls staring back at him.

“Good morning angel.” Crowley exclaimed walking into the room with a green spray bottle and a smile on his face.

“Oh, Good morning Crowley” Aziraphale let out a sigh and sat up in the bed, which had oddly comforting pillows. He then got up from the bed still in his pajamas, which was just a t-shirt he had borrowed from Crowley and the pants he wore on the daily.

“Your suit is hung up in the closet, i figured we could go out for breakfast” Crowley shouted from the hall. Aziraphale walked across the room to Crowley’s closet, which was filled with completely black attire opposed to his light suit. He got himself dressed and found his way through Crowley’s maze of an apartment.

“you ready to go?” Crowley spoke to Aziraphale, he was leaned against the wall next to his doorway with his hand on his hip.

“Yes, just let me put on my bowtie quickly.” Aziraphale exclaimed, raising his eyebrows. But before he could even turn around Crowley snapped and the tie found its way around Aziraphale’s neck.
“Oh my, thank you Crowley.”

They walked out of the doors to Crowley’s apartment building and headed down the busy streets of London to a small restaurant called Aquavit London. Aziraphale gushed about how the food was amazing while Crowley almost as always had nothing.

Aziraphale caught Crowley staring at him and questioned,
“What? is there something on my face?” Crowley quickly replied,
“Oh, no. My bad.”

Aziraphale looked down slightly and smiled to himself. Crowley of course saw this but pretended as he hadnt. Aziraphale interrupted the silence saying,
“Well im done if youre ready to leave.”
Crowley gave him a nod and stood from his chair, buttoning his blazer and adjusting his glasses.
“Where to now Angel?” Crowley spoke to Aziraphale. “We could always go back to my shop? It happens to be a buisness day today though dear.” Aziraphale said somberly, almost bummed he had to open shop. “Sure, can we talk once were there? its about.. us.” Crowley uttered, quieter than he usually talked. “o-of course.” Aziraphale stuttered, he put his coat on and left the money for the bill on the table. Yet again they made their way to Aziraphale’s shop, but this time under the bright hue of the morning.

Aziraphale miracled a key into his hand and unlocked his doors, walking in first and closing the door behind Crowley. Aziraphale made the key disappear into thin air and turned to look at Crowley. Crowley took his sunglasses off and put them in his coat pocket. He let out a small sigh and looked up to Aziraphale.

“Well, Angel..” Crowley said, leaving an awkward silence after his words.
“Its about last night.” He continued, the Demons words were slow spoken as he turned his head downwards and looked around the room, avoiding Aziraphales eyes.

“Ah, yes. About that.” The Angel looked into Crowley’s piercing yellow eyes. “What are we to do now?” Aziraphale exclaimed as Crowley finally met his gaze.
“I suppose you know how i feel about you.” Aziraphale chuckled to himself as he broke eye contact with Crowley.

“Yea, i suppose i do eh?” Crowley had on a confused face, scrunching his nose and opening his mouth as he did when Aziraphale visited him while being discorporated. “Well i feel the same about you, Aziraphale.” Crowley spoke down to Aziraphale, a slight twang in his voice—Also notingly using his name instead of ‘Angel’. The Angel brought his gaze back to Crowley’s snake eyes and gave a soft, almost embarrassed smile.

The day passed by as few customers entered the shop, like always, and Crowley and Aziraphale spent the day together reminiscing and giving small kisses when they could.

“Well ive got to be on my way.” Crowley vocalized as he walked out from an aisle of bookcases. “Oh, well i suppose ill see you soon.” Aziraphale reacted as he brought his head up from his desk.
“See you soon my love.” Crowley mumbled as he walked out the door, certain that the ineffable plan couldn’t have planned this any better. Not to mention the ‘My love’ he slipped in before he left.
