“It’s here! It’s finally here!” Tommy bolted down the stairs into the kitchen. He was carrying the family crow, who just returned with mail.
“Oh no… It’s actually here.” Wilbur’s face turned pale upon noticing the letter in the crow’s mouth.
“Is it too late to send him to Illvermorny?” Technoblade sarcastically commented, realizing exactly what this meant for the upcoming school year and the chaos that came with it.
“Boys…” Kristin sternly glared at her twin sons with her hands on her hips. “Come here dear, show me what you just got.” Her expression turned kind as she beckoned her youngest over.
Tommy gave a nod before dashing over and handing her the letter. She broke the maroon wax seal and tore open the letter. From there Kristin read the parchment aloud.
Dear Theseus Innit Minecraft, We are here to inform you of your acceptance to Hogwarts school of Witchcraft and Wizardry. We demand an owl be sent, or in your family’s case a crow, with a confirmation of your acceptance at the nearest possible time.
Make sure to read over the shopping list and get any required materials before arriving at Platform 9 ¾ at The G-Train Station. The semester term starts September 1st. We look forward to having you be a part of the future class this year.
~Deputy Headmaster, Captain J. Sparklez
“Fuck yeah! I did it! I’m going to Hogwarts, bitches.” The young blond pridefully gloated with the largest grin.
“Tommy, what did we say about swearing!” Kristin glared at him with her hands on her hips.
“Oh, sorry mum.” He muttered, forgetting that he had to watch his mouth around here.
“Anyways, this is amazing news! We have to tell your father right away when he gets home. I’m sure he’ll be so proud of you.” She continued to look at the letter with an excited smile.
“Right,” Tommy nodded before bolting up the stairs, his mind set on beginning preparations for his first year at Hogwarts.
His family didn’t even have the opportunity to congratulate him yet. At the same time, he didn’t have a moment to waste, unable to contain his excitement.
“Oh boy… With him joining us, we are in for quite the ride this year.” Wilbur commented, rolling his eyes with a sarcastic smile.
With Tommy now attending, he knew Hogwarts had to make way for his brother and his antics. They’d be lucky if he ended up not burning down the school his first year.
“Tell me about it.” Technoblade gave a small laugh, refusing to look up from the book he had his nose buried in.
Phil returned home later in the evening. Upon stepping inside, the two crows sitting on his shoulder took flight. They removed his black cloak with a feathered collar and crimson, jeweled, heart-shaped broach, and hung it up for him.
“Welcome home, darling,” Kristin waved, gently stroking a crow that landed on her shoulder with her other hand.
“It’s good to be back, Kristin.” He softly smiled, cupping his hand on her cheek as they embraced one another.
“The twins helped me prepare dinner while you were gone. Tommy also has a big surprise for you today.” She informed him, half-way closing her eyes as she rested her head on her husband.
“Really, is that so?” Phil gave a slight chuckle, showing intrigue.
“Mhm, I’m sure he’ll be excited to tell you.” Kristin assertively nodded with a glimmer of fierce admiration in her eyes. “Dinner is ready!” She shouted.
Three sets of feet came bolting down the stairs, all of which were excited to see their father after him being away all day. After all the greetings and small talk, the five gathered around the table to eat. Tonight they had pot pie and some side dishes.
“Hey Tommy, don’t you have something you want to tell your father?” Kristin prompted her youngest while they peacefully ate.
“Oh, right! Hey, dad, dadza, I got accepted into Hogwarts. Isn’t that Pog?!” Tommy eagerly waved his letter around to show off.
“I knew this day would come! I’m proud of you, mate! How about in celebration, I'll take you out for some butter beer?” Phil gave an expected nod of approval.
“Hell yeah!” He cheered in response.
“Phil,” His wife shot him an unamused glare.
“Fine, we can do something else to celebrate then. When did you even find out?” Phil questioned with intrigue.
“This morning actually.” He replied.
“You should’ve been there. He literally wouldn’t shut up about it all day.” Technoblade pointed out, slightly rolling his eyes.
“Isn’t this just amazing? My little boy is all grown up and going to magic school.” Kristin gleefully teased him.
“Mom, I’m eleven now. I’m not your little boy. I’m a big man. I’m going to Hogwarts this year and have big plans.” Tommy pridefully declared.
“Who knows. maybe you’ll be in Slytherin?” Wilbur budded in with a grin.
“I’m not a fucking Slytherin.” Tommy sneered at him, disgusted that he would even assume that.
“And what’s wrong with that? We aren’t all evil pure-bloods like the stereotypes say, a lot of us are actually very successful.” He let out a sarcastic sigh.
“By successful you mean winning the house cup and achievin’ nothing else?” Technoblade replied in a snarky tone.
“You’re just salty that Ravenclaw came in second place behind my house by ten points last year.” He pointed out.
“It was nine points, get it right. That’s irrelevant anyways. We all know Tommy isn’t going to be joining either of our houses.” Technoblade believed there was no way Tommy was a Slytherin like Wilbur, or a Ravenclaw like Phil and himself.
“Are you implying that I’m stupid?!” Tommy slammed his fist on the table.
“No, I’m just saying you’re a Hufflepuff.” He smirked, taking out his book once more at the table.
“I think we should just be supportive of whatever house Tommy ends up in.” Kristin interrupted, attempting to quell their discussion.
“Your mother is right. There is nothing against any of the houses. All that matters is that he gets into the house best suited for him.” Phil added on.
“Who knows, maybe you’ll finally make some friends.” Wilbur slyly commented, giving him a nudge.
“I’m not a loser like you guys. I have friends.” Tommy scoffed.
“You had a friend, didn’t he move away?” Technoblade pointed out.
Although his brother was right, Tommy didn’t say a word, instead giving a solemn expression. As much of a big man he claimed to be, he struggled to make friends growing up. Mostly because of his brash behavior, or the fact he was a wizard living amongst muggles. Though, he had a close one growing up.
There was a kid that moved into his neighborhood a few years back. Before then, their neighborhood didn’t have any other children besides their family, let alone his age. Ignoring his new neighbor’s odd behavior, Tommy and him eventually became very close.
Unfortunately, he had to move out and they couldn’t stay in contact. Even if that was the case, he was a muggle. So, he couldn’t see him during the school year anyways. Tommy would be attending Hogwarts, and his friend was going to muggle school. Hopefully, he will make some more friends with this fresh start. Friends he wouldn’t have to worry about moving away, that will stay by his side all of the upcoming seven years.
“Can I please get a pet? Please, please?” Tommy clung into his father’s arm, pleading as he stared into the shop inside.
The Magical Menagerie was crowded, filled with owls in cages, cats, toads, and several other domesticated animals. Soon to be new students, just like him, eyed up animals with fascination, picking out a companion of their own. Yet here Tommy was, only able to stare from outside.
“For the last time, you aren’t getting one. Besides, you don’t need an owl when the crows already deliver our mail.” Phil shook his head in a condescending way.
“But the letter said I was allowed to bring a pet!” He pointed out, but his father wouldn’t budge. “Mum!” He turned towards Kristin, hoping she would think differently.
“I’m sorry, Tommy, but I think you should listen to your father on this one. He’s a wizard and I’m not. So, he knows more about this stuff.” She insisted.
“Oh Kristin, you shouldn’t put yourself down like that. You’re absolutely perfect just the way you are, and I’m glad you came with us to support our son today.” Phil softly smiled and kissed his wife’s cheek.
“Mom, Dad, I think that’s enough. Don’t embarrass Tommy on his first day.” Technoblade rolled his eyes, returning with his twin from their own shopping. He carried a pile of textbooks that extended above his head, dropping them into Tommy’s arms with a smirk.
“What the hell?! Why are there so fucking many?!” He shouted, immediately getting weighed down from holding all the textbooks.
“The Standard Book of Spells: Grade One, History of Magic, Magical Theory, A Beginner’s Guide to Transfiguration, One Thousand Magical Herbs and Fungi, Magical Drafts and Potions, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, and The Dark Forces: A Guide to Self-Protection.” Technoblade rambled the list of required books off the top of his head. “That should be enough to get you through your first year.”
“Don’t tell me you went out of your way to buy all of those.” Phil questioned with concern.
“Absolutely not, purchasing textbooks for Hogwarts is as expensive as American College. Besides, he already has two copies of each from Techno and I’s previous years. You know, since I can sense him destroying a few in the near future.” Wilbur explained.
“Hey, I’m not that reckless.” Tommy retorted.
“Trust me, it will come in handy. If you’re anything like the rest of us, you’ll definitely cause some trouble in your upcoming years. Your brothers already have, as did I in my days. My father nearly held me back for it. Mischief is basically a Minecraft family tradition at this rate.” Phil chuckled to himself.
“Unfortunately, he’s right. Just promise me you won’t destroy the school while you’re away.” Kristin gave a soft, yet slightly worried smile.
“I can’t guarantee anything...” Tommy whispered under his breath, to which her sharp ears caught, giving him a glare. “I mean, sure thing, Mum! What’s next on the list!” He exclaimed.
“Let me see.” Phil scanned over the parchment shopping list. “It’s your wand.”
“Pog, let’s go! What are we waiting for?” He early led the way, hurrying through the busy streets as his family followed not far behind.
The Minecrafts had a history of having trouble finding a fitting wand. Whether that be because of their peculiar nature or that most wands didn’t want a holder such as them. All had a strong feeling Tommy would be no different, curious as to how many he would go through.
At the same time, they rather not be there to find out. For he could take hours for all they knew; hence why they planned their shopping earlier than most. After dropping Tommy off at the quaint shop, the rest of the family planned to meet up with him later.
Tommy boldly stepped inside the wand store. Inside, he was greeted by shelves that extended multiple floors, touching the ceiling. All of which were filled with boxes left in an disorganized manner. There were other families here with their first year children, but unlike them, the big man was on his own. Minding no attention to them, Tommy headed for the back of the shop.
There, sitting behind the counter, was a woman with short purple-blue hair. Her bangs covered her right eye and she wore a black apron. She was currently preoccupied, writing on a parchment scroll. Upon Tommy clearing his throat, she halted her writing and looked up at him.
“Oh, hello Mr. Theseus Innit Minecraft. I didn’t expect to see you that soon. Time really does fly, doesn’t it?” The wandkeeper amusingly smiled, twirling her quill within her hand.
“Uhhh… how do you know my name?” He asked in confusement.
“I know a Minecraft when I see one. Besides, your father and I go back, but that’s enough about me. Today’s your special day, so let’s get to it.” Without a moment to waste, she stood from her seat and hopped onto the creaky ladder, already in search of the fitting wand.
Tommy could only glance up in awe as the wandkeeper vigorously rummaged through boxes at the top, gliding about on her rolling ladder. After some scanning, she pulled out a singular box, climbed down and gave it to the blond. Tommy took it, opening the box, and taking the wand out to judge how it felt.
“Well, what are you waiting for? Try it out.” The wandkeeper egged him on.
“Right,” He nodded before giving the wand a simple wave.
As a result, boxes were forcibly pushed off the selves, almost falling onto the other customers. Tommy curiously glanced back at the wand keeper, who shook her head in disapproval before continuing her search right away. Both had a feeling this was going to take some time. She climbed up the ladder once more. Meanwhile, Tommy impatiently waited, tapping his foot, eventually pacing about the crumpled aisleway.
“So, you knew my dad?” Tommy couldn’t take it anymore and attempted to make small talk.
“Mhm, we attended Hogwarts around the same time. We were even in the same house and quidditch team.” The wandkeeper hummed from above, too focused to look down at him.
“Did he really–”
“Almost blow up the school? Oh, absolutely. Your old man was and still is, seeing as he’s the professor of it now, obsessed with potions. And I think you can see where this is going…” She trailed off, a certain wand catching her eye. “Oh, how about this one!”
After pulling it out, she eagerly climbed down the ladder and handed it to the blond. Tommy pulled it out of the box and gave it a flick. This time he set fire to the nearby scroll of parchment on the wandkeeper’s desk.
“No! I was planning on making that a series!” She hurried over to extinguish it before any permanent damage was caused.
“Hehe… Arson pog!” He laughed to himself, smiling as he examined the wand in his hand. “I like this one. Can I keep it?” He turned back to her with a mischievous grin.
“Definitely not, I’m afraid it just isn’t a fit. After all, the wand chooses the wizard, not the other way around. Now, let’s try another.” She handed him another box, forcing a smile.
In the end, they went through eight wands total, plus a lot of property damage. At this rate, the shop was empty. Any other customers either made their purchases and left shortly after, or left to do other shopping. Despite that, both Tommy and the Wandkeeper remained optimistic. Most usually found their wand by the third attempt. Still, it was nowhere as bad as the rest of his family, not now at least.
Upon pulling out the ninth box, the wandkeeper stared at it for just a moment. A look of intrigue formed across her face as she read the details. She had a good feeling about this one. Eagerly climbing down the ladder, she handed it to him with a soft smile.
Tommy, unsure about this one from how the previous attempts went, hesitantly took it out. He examined the short, orangish-pink wooden wand with its stumpy handle, heaving a sigh before giving another wave. Though, this time there was no disorganizing boxes, shattering of glass, or fire.
The lanterns around the shop dimmed and repeatedly flickered. The shop door flung open as a breeze came in, traveling to the back of the shop, and knocking over loose sheets of parchment in the process.
It surrounded Tommy as it gently swayed through his blond hair. A hissing sound came from his wand, creating dazzling red sparks, which danced around him before diminishing as the room returned to normal.
“Woah…” He muttered in amazement, glancing down at the wooden stick in his hand.
“Well, it looks like we have a match. It didn’t even take us that long, especially compared to when I had to do this with your brothers.” The wandkeeper let out a sigh of relief.
“Didn’t take that long?! I felt like we were here for hours! And you’re telling me Techno and Wilbur were more of a pain in the ass?” Tommy scoffed in disbelief, rolling his eyes.
“Most first years typically find theirs on their third attempt, some take more, some take less. But let’s just say your family is “stubborn” to say the least. I remember going through fourteen with one of your brothers and sixteen with the other. Though, I think between the three of you, your’s is the most intriguing to me.” She explained, glancing down at the Tulip-wood wand in his hand.
“Really, why is that?” Tommy tilted his head.
“Your wand core is a phoenix feather—“
“A Phoenix? Pog!” He excitedly cut her off. “Wait, what does that even mean?”
“Traditionally, the most common being unicorn hair and dragon heartstrings. Phoenix feathers are rare as they tend to be extremely picky with who they choose, but are also known for their great range of magic. Phil actually has one too.”
“Really?” Tommy questioned, to which she nodded. “Cool! I am totally going to brag about that to Wil and Techno. Uhh… Bye Wand-Woman!” He tossed her a couple galleon coins, and bid farewell before bolting out of the room.
“Good luck, Mr. Theseus Minecraft!” The wand-keeper waved back, glancing down at her sheet of parchment, which was still scorched from earlier. “I can already tell he’s totally going to burn something down… This is going to be an eventful year, that’s for sure.” She amusingly muttered to herself, sitting back in her seat.
Eagerly, Tommy rushed through the busy streets of Midnight Alley in search of his family. Overhead various owls swoop, landing on various perches and nesting in tight spots. He scanned the inside of different shops like the Hermit’s Quill, Tilted Tavern, Mooner’s Bed Emporium, The Barrel Beast, Monster’s Brew, and plenty more.
There were also many other students, including first years like him, doing their shopping. Though, Tommy had no interest in making friends right now, at least for the time being. Eventually, he found his family, sitting outside the ice cream parlor, awaiting his inevitable arrival.
“Mum! Dad! I’m back!” Tommy shouted from across the street, rushing to the other side as he paid no attention to traffic.
“You’re back sooner than expected. How did it go?” Upon seeing him, Phil stood up from his seat, followed by the others.
“Look, I got my own wand! It even has a Phoenix feather core, which is rare according to the woman.” He held up his Tulip-wood wand, giving a smug expression as he glanced at his brothers.
“I’m so proud of you, Tommy!” Kristin immediately pulled him in for a hug. “Your wand looks very lovely,”.
“Well, it looks kind of girly to me. I was expecting something more than pink.” Wilbur sarcastically rolled his eyes, crossing his arms.
“Shut the fuck up, Wilbur. I didn’t ask for your opinion. Besides, I think it looks very pog.” He snapped in response.
“Tommy, what did we say about swearing at your family? And Wil, please don’t make fun of your brother’s new wand.” Phil stepped between the two.
“No matter what kind of wand Tommy got, we are going to be supportive of him.” Kristin added on.
“Sorry…” They both muttered in response.
“There ain’t nothin’ wrong with pink. I might be a bit biased, but it’s also my favorite color.” Technoblade remarked, messing with the single pink streak in his brown hair.
“Now that we got that out of the way, what’s next? Is it time to finally board the Hogwarts express?” Tommy excitedly asked.
“Not yet, seeing as you got done sooner than we thought, we still got a few hours left to kill.” Phil explained, glancing around the street.
“Looks like we can still do a bit of shopping together. Might I interest you in looking at a bunch of potions?” Wilbur smiled, wrapping his shoulder around his younger brother.
“Hell no! I want to look at the broomsticks. This big man is going to be on the quidditch team.” Tommy laughed, pushing off Wilbur’s arm.
“As a first year? That’s pretty unheard of.” Technoblade shook his head in response:
“Just you wait! I’m going to prove you wrong. I’m going to get a Firebolt,” He smirked, wasting no time in dashing towards the broom store, quickly followed by the twins.
Meanwhile, Phil and Kristin returned to seating at the ice cream parlor, exchanging content smiles. “I have a feeling this is going to be an interesting year.” He muttered, giving a laugh, as Kristin couldn’t help but nod in agreement.
