Yuudai was enjoying his sleep until he was awoken by a pillow to the head. He groaned and pulled the covers up further, trying to doge these attacks. Why must he always be disrupted so early in the morning?
“Did you walk Titan today?” Yuudai opened his eyes and practically glared at Gao. “Why do I have to do it, you’re literally up.”
Gao just shrugs. That bastard.
“I have a really pounding headache, but I need to go out for some things. So hopefully it passes.” Gao leans over and places a kiss to Yuudai’s temple. “Please walk the dog Yu.”
Yuudai groans again, but obliges nonetheless.
Yuudai returns from his walk and stores Titan’s leash away. He goes to take his shoes off when he hears a painful groan coming from the bedroom.
“Ku? Are you alright?” He calls out, upon hearing no response he starts walking towards their shared bedroom. When he walks in, Gao is slumped against the dresser clutching at his head.
Yuudai quickens his steps and bends over next to Gao, who’s sweating profusely. “Hey hey, take your hands off your head okay?” Yuudai coos gently. When Gao removes his hands, Yuudai places the front and back of his hand to Gao’s forehead and winces at the temperature.
“You’re burning up Ku holy shit. Come on” Yuudai steadies Gao on his shoulder, walking him to the bed. He then goes to fetch a rag, and run it under cool water. When he returns, Gao is still lying the same position he put him in. Yuudai places the rag on his forehead and rubs his hair affectionately. He’s still dressed from the walk, so he can walk to the nearby pharmacy down the road.
Yuudai speaks in a soft tone, “Hey, I’m going to walk to the pharmacy alright? Just need to get you a few things.” Gao nods, looking a little drowsy. Yuudai sighs and makes his way out the door.
When he gets to the pharmacy he picks up a few things, like nasal spray, a better thermometer, fever medicine, tissues, and that brand of freeze pops Gao really likes. He also picked up some snacks for himself. He pays and returns back home to nurse his sick boyfriend back to health.
When he enters the home, Titan isn’t on his living room bed, so that must mean he’s in the room with Gao. He toes off his shoes and goes to the kitchen to set the freeze pops in the freezer, putting the snacks for himself away. He unboxes the the thermometer and nasal spray, along with the fever medication and starts making his way to the bedroom again.
He was right, Titan is curled up a good distance away from Gao, as big as the great dane was. Gao looked to be drowsy, not fully asleep. Yuudai walked up to him with the thermometer in his hand.
“Ku? We need to take your temperature hm?” Gao nodded, sitting up slowly. Yuudai placed the thermometer under his tongue and waited about 20-30 seconds for a beep.
101.4.. this isn’t good. Gao’s fever is only going to go up for a while, and this means Yuudai can’t prepare for the “occasion”.
“Im going to run you a bath okay?” Gao only hums, shutting his eyes. Yuudai speed walks to the bathroom, turning the knob on the tub to the right temperature, and adding some bathing salts and other smell goods along with some bubbles. He sets up towels on the counter as well.
He goes to retrieve Gao, who’s already sitting up. They walk to the bathroom and Yuudai immediately turns off the bath water faucet. Yuudai then rids himself of his and Gao’s clothes, guiding them into the shower. Yuudai washes while Gao leans on him slightly. When they finish, the faucet is turned off and Yuudai wraps a towel around himself, and sets Gao in the bath.
“Don’t move okay? I have to get dressed, I’ll be quick love.” Gao nods and sinks down into the tub.
Yuudai returns in sweats and a baggy shirt to find Gao still sunken under bubbles. Cute.
Yuudai sits on the bathroom stool, and lathers some shampoo on his hands. He massages Gao’s scalp thoroughly earning him a hum in return. After a while, Yuudai’s movements are slowing down and his eyes are beginning to close, and that’s when it hits him.
Literally. Because before he knows it a handful of bubbles are being shoved into his face. He falls off the stool in a huff, aggressively wiping the bubbles off of his face, ready to glare at the man in the tub. That’s until he hears the rich, deep laugh of the man beside him. Yuudai’s eyes soften and he can feel himself staring, lips relaxing. He’s lost his train of thought by now, just looking at Gao with nothing but sweetness and adoration.
He’s so beautiful. Yuudai knows he’d hand the world to Gao in a heartbeat.
They’re both dressed and out of the tub, Yuudai giving Gao a dose of fever medication before he lies down. “I bought you those freeze pops you really like.” Gao practically breaks his neck and the speed he turns to look at him. “Please get me one?”
Yuudai’s expression is soft again. “Mhm, mango or coconut?” Gao looks a little deep in thought. “Mango.” Yuudai nods to retrieve it.
Gao starts to feel better after some treatment, thanks to Yuudai. It’s the night before Gao’s birthday, the time being 11:27. They’re curled up in bed together, Titan snug between them. Yuudai reaches over on his side of the bed to pull out a bag. Gao immediately shoots his eyes over to the assumed gift.
“Yu, it’s not even my birthday yet! Why are you giving me gifts.” Yuudai just shrugs. “Just open it. You have more I’ll give you throughout the day, but I want you to open this one now.”
Gao thinks about it. He eventually takes the bag with hesitant hands, both of them sitting up on the headboard. He takes out the tissue paper, still afraid of whats inside.
It’s a box?
“Yu you aren’t proposing to me are you?” Gao’s heart speak quickens at the thought. Yuudai just shrugs again. “No, I wouldn’t propose to you in these conditions. I’d wanna do it properly. But I wanted to give this to you in the comfort of our own home with each other.” Still, Gao opens the box with a generous amount of care. It’s a ring. It’s a silver ring on a chain, with a blue marble pattern, and an intricate design of words are engraved into it.
“A promise is in place. Our moment. -Hakuba Yuudai.”
Gao reads it over and over and over again, trying to comprehend what it means. Tears start to gather at the corners, and he’s looking and Yuudai expectantly.
“Call it a promise. A declaration. A commitment. To you, forever my love.”
The tears are flowing consistently at this point, Gao just not being able to wrap his head around how this is happening. He’d never expected to get this far with the man he truly loves. He wants to hold him forever.
“I love you. Yuudai I love you so much.” Gao’s practically holding on for dear life at this point. Even if Yuudai’s eyes are stinging with tears too nobody says anything about it.
“I love you too Gao. More than you could ever know.” They stay in the position they’re in for some quiet moments.
Until the loudest sneeze settles in their ear drums, severely startling them. They look over to see Titan having a sneezing fit and licking his nose on the corner of the bed. Yuudai turns to look at Gao with a mildly annoyed face.
“Whoops.”
