Chapter Text
HIS VERSION....
He got out of bed trying very hard not to wake her up.
She was sleeping like a baby, babbling and smiling in her sleep.
For the first time in his life,he feels complete. Last night was amazing, he'd never felt as cherished and loved as she'd made him feel. He could spend the rest of his life in a Bedouin tent in the middle of the Saharan desert as long as she was with him.
He got into the shower whistling his favorite song.
He couldn't wait to spend the entire day with his fiancee of eighteen hours.
He truly felt that today will be the beginning of the best days of his life.
He couldn't wait to be her husband and the father of her children.
His best friend was coming back in two weeks and he couldn't wait to finally introduce her to the love of his life.
He knows that she'd been acting weirdly ever since he told her about his girlfriend. In fact, she left on a backpacking cross country trip the very next day.
She's been gone for four months now and he's made plans to talk to her when she gets back.
He let his mind wander back to his future wife and he immediately felt his mouth breaking into a dopey grin like the love sick idiot he was.
He was busy day dreaming about his future and dirty diapers and trips to the emergency room at 2 am when he heard his phone ring.
Babe? You have a call, she calls out to him.
Can you take it,he asks with a small smile. I'd take it but I'm worried I'll slip on the floor and widow you before I actually get to make you my wife,he teased.
He heard her laugh and softly reply 'Okay' as he turned on the water and he drifted back to planning forever with his soul mate.
About thirty minutes later, he got out of the bathroom and discovered that she was no longer in bed. He quickly got dressed thinking he'd find her in the kitchen.
Babe? He called as he walked down the stairs but there was no answer.
A quick search of the kitchen and the guest bedroom left a shiver in his spine as she was nowhere to be found.
He was about to head upstairs for his phone when he saw her ring on the table with a note.
He picked it up and read, his heart sinking with every word. "Barry, I think we need some space for a while. I'm leaving town and I don't know when I'll be back, if I'll ever come back. I need some time to think. We both do. I don't want to spend the rest of my life doubting your commitment to us. Since you are unwilling to make the choice, this is me making it easier for you by taking myself out of the equation. I love you Barry but this is where our story ends. Goodbye."
He picked up his car keys, raced out of the apartment and drove to her father's house like a mad man.
He knocked but no one answered.
Iris, Iris, honey, he called but there was no response.
He sank to his knees as his entire world collapsed and he was plunged into complete darkness because the love of his life and the light of his life left him without a word, without a trace....
