Clueless for too long

Summary:

Both Yui and Daichi have racing hearts and chaotic thoughts when they see each other. They realise they've loved each other for so long, but always too shy to say it out loud.

Even now that they're finally together, they regret that they didn't say something before.

Work Text:

'Hey, Yui. I bought us tickets for the festival.'

Daichi snuck a look back at his friends who were giving him excited smiles and thumbs ups. He fidgeted with his hair and looked back into Yui's brown eyes firmly.

'Just the two of us.'

Heat crawls up Yui's neck and she can't stop her face from instantly reddening. She stares at the ground like the grass is the most interesting thing in the world.

'Okay,' she says, and continues talking about aquariums like she had been all morning. Daichi wanted to talk about the festival and how he was doing it to copy Tanaka buying tickets for himself and Kiyoko. As a date. This was a date. But the novelty of saying something cheesily romantic wore off quickly and instead he let himself get distracted by what she was saying although she was repeating stuff from earlier. Just the sound of her voice and presence made him happy.

His shoulder tapped against hers, and both felt electricity. Other than a meek glance in the other’s direction when the other wasn't looking, nothing revealed the chaotic and rapid heart beating inside their chests.

People milled around at the festival, bumping into them and they were getting separated. Before that could happen, Daichi held Yui’s hand and pulled her towards himself. She looked up at him with a thankful smile which made his heart skip a beat.

The moment didn't last because the first lot of fireworks for the night blasted off. Vendors were turning on the lights for their stalls and they separated now to buy the food they wanted.

After buying food she joined him on the rails among a few other friend groups.

'Are you enjoying yourself?' She asked.

He nodded. Yui pleaded to herself to say something, anything at all; something to make today a little different, when she got bumped into from behind making her fall onto Daichi’s chest. She realised the situation immediately but her response time was on pause.

'You okay Yui?' He asked. All she could do was gape at his chest and hold on his shoulders, worried she'll fall if she tried to move.

His face turned a noticeable red and their Karasuno friends were oohing in the background but he didn't notice them at all. All his senses were focused on her her her, her hands that he hadn't held in a long time until just now, and now were also on his arms. She finally looked him in the eyes and her own were dazed and looking distant. Seeing her subtle blush made his core burn. She took his hand and led him right back to the quiet rail area.

Now he could hear what he thought were his friends calling his name and seeming to get louder, but she didn't let him think about that any further.

She pulled down the top of his t-shirt making his mind go haywire and it was at the third tug that something clicked inside of him and he realised, he should have realised earlier and he bent down for her. She gasped before she pressed her lips on his. It was a fumbling touch of their lips and he was hyper aware of the sweat on his moustache area and a ticklish sensation just under his chin. Her fingers were careful on his shoulders and gentle like he was a precious piece of glass, so much that her fingers felt like clouds on his skin.

Her hands then settle. The pressure of her shaking hand on his chest emits heat that makes his skin go on fire and she tugs his shirt again and he knows exactly what will come next. Her lips fumble once against on his and he's the one breathing too heavily this time. Just as he lets out a gasp, she kisses him deeper, meaningfully, tongue trailing to savour every taste. They ended the kiss. Yui didn't move off, she was desperate for all of Daichi as she clung on him, pecking him instead on his shirt and neck which were easier to reach. Warmth bubbled between their bodies as the embrace extended for minutes. She nuzzled into Daichi's neck deeper and deeper, leaving him more dazed as the minutes passed and music bashed in their background.

-

Yui. She was more than just a friend to him. He'd been extra responsive to her texts for a week now since the party. He couldn't stop thinking about her soft cold lips, little cold fingers.

Daichi gave in to his thoughts, not bothering to open his eyes. He imagined a tiny ghost peck on his cheek. He wanted the kiss to linger forever, but knew this one was just his lucid dreaming.  He finally managed to open his eyes, a bit of an agitated feeling inside. He had not had any level of romantic thoughts in a really long time. Since first year high school really. But being around Yui made him feel things. He was starting to think of her in a different way and it was all so confusing. His fingers had a mind of their own as they reached from his phone and clicked on her contact. The phone rang first and he saw who had called him.

He rushed out of his pyjamas and became flustered on which one of his shirts to wear. The doorbell rang a second time and he rushed to get the door. Both their faces were completely red when they sat on the couch next to each other. But she was braver than he thought. He recalled the coldness of those lips and the coldness of those hands when she came to give him a peck on the cheek.

He'd always regretted not questioning moments when they'd cuddle on the couch after long movies. He'd always wished for the cuddles and every touch to mean something. Something more than just them being friends. Apparently she'd always thought of them as something more. None of that mattered now when she'd climbed on top of him, forcing him back into the couch. He went to draw her close for a hug, but she caught herself with a distance between them two, then she smashed her lips onto his. It was like a crash of water, then it was like honey and he couldn't get enough of it.

He's overheating from head to toe and so is she. Her lips kiss him freely and he wants kisses for as long as she'll stay. He arcs his neck back into the couch’s leather to allow her full access. His body quaked under the nudge of knees on his inner thighs and he hummed at the feeling. The hum vibrated through his chest where Yui felt it, electricity racing through her veins. She pulled away and hovered over him and simply stared, jaws dropped and a twinkle in her eyes.

They’d both been clueless for too long. Now he held her cheeks and brought her face close and initiated another long kiss.
