"L-Ladybug!?"
"Hello, Adrien." Ladybug slowly approached him, a sweet smile adorning her face. His heart sped up. He could hear the pounding in his ears, and he forced himself to take deep, meditative breath lest he collapse on the spot. She was just a few feet away, and the proximity was suffocating him.
"You… you know my name." He whispered in awe, taking a step back. He almost stumbled as his legs struck the arm of his couch. He recovered quickly, snagging the arm of the couch, leaning back slightly to put the extra space between them. Why was he so nervous? This was Ladybug!
She answered him with a soft, bell-like giggle. "Of course I do, Adrien." Her sweet, melodic voice sent shivers through his spine and a blush to his cheeks. She reached up, cupping his cheek, which must have burnt with heat. "But do you know me?"
He nodded, finding a moment of confidence in her presence. His eyes never left her, and he felt like he was drowning. "Of course I do. I know you better than anyone else, M'Lady."
Silence filled the space between them, and her eyes twinkled with mirth. He blinked several times, and it took Adrien a moment too long to realize his own slip up. Wide-eyed and embarrassed, he backpedaled quickly. "I… I meant… I… I didn’t mean to call you…I…I was just…"
"Oh, Kitty.” She said with tenderness, brushing the hair away from his eyes. Her words shut him up quickly, and Adrien stood before her feeling vulnerable. “I already know who you are, my sweet Minou… and I have loved you for so, so long. I’m sorry I never told you before." She leaned in, brushing her lips against his and stealing away any protest he may have had.
"Kid… you've got that look on your face again." Plagg grumbled as he lay upon Adrien's pillow, cheese in hand and a belly already bulging. "It's the same look I get when we pass the cheese store."
Adrien was stretched across the bed, laying on his stomach as he stared off into space. The dreamy look of contentment on his face was sickening to the Black Cat Kwami. Starry-eyed and relaxed, Adrien didn’t seem to pay much attention to the aggravated tone Plagg hadn’t even tried to hide.
"I had the dream again…" Adrien’s voice was breathy as his memory turned back to the dream of Ladybug’s visit.
"Ugh!!" Plagg threw his cheese in the air. It spun end over end before landing in Plagg’s large, open maw. Plagg swallowed it whole. "You are disgusting!!"
Adrien snickered, rolling his eyes and smiling like a love-sick fool. He turned over on his bad so that he was laying on his back, eyes turning towards the ceiling above. "You wouldn't understand. A little cheese and you are happy. It doesn't take much to satisfy your stomach… and your heart."
"That's because I understand that the best things in life are the simple things!!" Plagg replied sagely. “You should take my advice, Adrien. Nothing good is going to come from this.”
Adrien continued to ignore the bate. He took a deep breath and let out a sigh. "She kissed me this time." Plagg gagged at the sickeningly sweet longing that his holder radiated.
"Stop it!! You are going to make my ears bleed with all of that ooey, gooey – wait. No! I refuse to describe your endless, vomit of love using the same words I use to describe my cheese."
Adrien sat up. "I'm perfectly fine with you never comparing my love to your cheese. You are the disgusting one. At least I don’t swallow my love whole." Throwing his legs off the side of the bed, he made his way to the window, wondering if there was any chance his dream would come true. A heat rose on his cheeks at the thought, and he lifted his hand to his lips at the memory of her soft lips on his own.
Plagg scoffed. With an indignant huff, and buried himself further into the cozy pillow (which had long ago become stained with the stench of camembert). Plagg turned up his nose and refused to speak.
A smirk appeared on Adrien’s face as he glanced back at the Kwami. Finally. He had discovered long ago that to shut down the Kwami of Destruction, he simply needed to hit him where it hurt… his stomach. And not just with the threat of cheese. Nauseatingly sweet confessions of love easily did the trick.
Assured that Plagg wouldn’t be bothering him again for a while, Adrien felt a tension in his shoulder ease. He was due some peace and quiet after the busy day he’d had. He was grateful for Plagg and the Black Cat Miraculous that allowed him a rush of freedom he would otherwise not be granted, but he also found the constant companionship stifling – especially when that companionship was in the form of a bottomless pit of stinky cheese.
The lights of Paris shined through the window, and he reached out to touch the cool glass. Tonight was his Lady’s turn to patrol, and he found himself once again gazing out, searching for a flash of red in the distance. Anything to signify that she was swinging through Paris.
His thoughts wondered once more. Would she be coming this way on her patrol this evening? Was she taking a late patrol or an early one? Was she moving slowly through Paris and enjoying the wind and the rush of freedom the Miraculous granted them both. Or would she be rushing through the patrol, ready to return to whatever her civilian life entailed?
Would she appear, suddenly, as she did in the best of dreams? A shadow of red and a mysterious knock at his window. How could he deny his Lady as she asked for shelter from the cold night or storms that raged across the city?
Adrien longed for the dreams to be real… Dreams where she knew him and loved him. Dreams where he could speak freely to her without rejection. In his dreams, she trusted him, just as he trusted her.
His nightly visitor… The Ladybug of his dreams.
