Work Text:
A young girl stuck her arm out of her bedroom window, stretching out her palm. She waved it around desperately, in hopes of catching a snowflake. One of the many, many snowflakes cascading from the sky. She watched as a small white speck fluttered and drifted down, before landing on her hand. Eyes widening in awe, she observed it as it melted, slowly withering away.
“DAEEENAAA!” The young girl called excitedly.
“What, Kym?” A stern, yet kind voice replied from across the room.
“It’s snowing!! Do you want to go outside?” Kym , hopping over to the location of Daena, her older sister.
“Why, of course, madame.” She replied, a mischievous glint sparkling in her eyes. Sticking out her elbow as an invite for Kym to latch on. Heavily bundled up, they waddled outside to enjoy the snow. “Wow, the snow’s so beautiful, and there’s so much!” Daena dropped Kym’s arm, and ran over to an untouched patch of snow. She grabbed a handful of the chilly powder. and balled it up, packing in more and more snow. Hiding it behind her back, she casually walked back to an unsuspecting Kym.
“Oh, yeah! Do you want to make a snowman? I’ll go inside and get a carrot! Be right back!” Kym grinned, skipping away gleefully.
Daena stared at Kym as she dashed away, her face contorted in confusion.
“I-“ She sighed, gazing at her now useless snowball. A cheshire grin spread across her face. “I’ll get you next time, Kym..

“I’m back!” Daena recognized Kym’s bright, peppy voice, and camouflaged herself along the trees. Lurking through the trees, she sought a place behind her younger sister.
— —
A strong gust of wind brushed past Kym, tussling her hair, and blowing it in her face. That wasn’t exactly a normal gust of wind, meaning something was probably thrown at her. Or, at least, tried to be thrown at her.
She whirled around, only to find Daena holding a gigantic snowball.
“Don’t you dare-“ Kym huffed, turning around and waddling away to another fresh patch of snow.
“Too late!” Daena called back, and dashed away just as the snowball collided with Kym’s neck.
Not wanting to find out what the outcome would be, she kept running.
Suddenly, Daena found herself face to face with a lake. Staring into it, she thought she was looking at a mirror.
“Hey, Kym! Come look! There’s a lake!” She called over to her younger sister, mesmerized by the reflection on the surface. “I’m gonna check it out, okay? Seems cool!”
She carefully put one foot on the ice, checking to see if it was stable. After she decided that it was sturdy enough, she stepped forward, shifting her weight as she moved onwards.
Soon enough, Daena was standing in the middle of the lake, eyes widened in awe.
“KYM!! LOOK!!” She hollered, twirling around gracefully. While she was spinning around, Kym was running towards her at full speed, slipping and sliding across the ice.
“Daena!” Kym cried out, crashing into her older sister, clutching onto her for dear life.
“Are you okay?” Daena observed Kym as she regained her balance.
“Yeah!”
“Alright! Should we head back?” She turned around and started back.
All of a sudden, a deafening crack filled the air. That could only mean one thing..
“Kym, RUN!!” Daena whipped around so that she was facing the direction of the noise, and spotted a giant crack racing towards where the two stood.
Daena drew in a deep breath, and grabbed Kym. Mustering all of the strength she had, she pushed kym as hard as she could.
Kym was skidding across the iceso fast, it was almost as if she was flying. She turned around, expecting to see her older sister behind her, but instead found arms flailing through a gap in the ice.
Daena.
Slowly coming to a stop, Kym sprinted towards where her older sister was struggling, but it was too late. The arms had stopped moving and were slowly being consumed by the inky water.
Tears began to well in her eyes, as she desperately searched for any signs of her sister. Any at all, but there was nothing.
Daena was gone.
