Chapter Text
Love can be quite complicated. It isn’t just divided into romantic and platonic, family, friends and soulmate. In the line between platonic and romantic: there’s friends with benefits, casual relationship and the one where they look like they’re dating but are not actually dating to name a few.
“After you mi’lady.” Andrew teased as he opened the door of the coffee shop for you.
“Thank you my cliche, kind sir.” You grinned, walking into the coffee shop with Andrew following in after you.
The two of you waited in line, chatting amicably about your respective days until you reached the counter.
“I’ll have a peppermint mocha and he will have a latte.” You smiled, reaching for your wallet when Andrew placed a couple of bank notes on the counter in front of you, giving you a smile.
“It’s on me, princess.”
“Fine, but I’m paying next time.” You rolled your eyes despite the smile that made its way to your lips.
“Not if I beat you to it.” He shrugged.
You made a face at him before the two of you made your way to the side where the orders would be received.
“A peppermint mocha and latte for Y/N!” One of the baristas called out, holding both drinks in hand.
“Thank you.” You and Andrew smiled as you got your respective drinks.
“Not to be intrusive or anything,” the barista said, “but the two of you are quite an adorable couple.”
Next thing you know, both you and Andrew’s cheeks were now colored.
“Actually we’re not dating.” You managed to stutter out.
The barista’s eyebrows furrowed, “Oh, I’m sorry. I thought you were boyfriend and girlfriend with the way you two are so sweet with each other and all.”
“It’s fine.” Andrew said, giving a reassuring smile to ease the barista, “We’re actually just friends.”
“Oh that explains it.” The barista said, “Well, have a great day you two!”
You and Andrew started to weave your way through the crowds to find a table.
“Do we really look like a couple?” You asked.
“Maybe?” He mused, “Do we also act like a couple?”
You shrugged, “Taking account of the ‘firsts’ we shared - and what we basically do on a daily basis, maybe we do? Like probably 40%?”
It had started with a rather innocent question.
You and Andrew were just watching a movie on a Friday night. Typical.
But, it was a rom-com and a romance comedy movie wouldn’t be complete without at least one kissing scene.
“I wonder what that feels like?” You thought out loud.
“You haven’t had your first kiss yet?” Andrew asked, attention torn away from the movie in front of you.
Feeling the heat rise up to your cheeks, you shook your head.
“Don’t you dare laugh at me.” You warned, throwing a glare his way.
“I wouldn’t dream of it.” He said, “Since I haven’t had mine either.”
“Really?” You chuckled, “Good looking guy like you and you haven’t managed to steal one?”
Andrew made a face at you, “Unlike what you think, I am a gentleman.”
“Yeah right.” You laughed.
“But um, you know if you want to try it, then I’m open to the suggestion.” He said, blushing in the process while internally cringing at his choice of words.
“Sure.” You answered before you lost the courage to do so.
Andrew faced a hand on each side of your face, looking deeply into your eyes, “Are you sure?”
You nodded, “Yes.”
Closing your eyes as he slowly leaned forward, and let’s just say that you didn’t know that paradise could be found with Andrew Garfield.
—
The only sound that filled the room was those of of keyboard keys clacking as the two college students worked on an essay for one of their classes.
Having a mental block right on the concluding line of his essay, Andrew closed his laptop before stretching on the couch.
“I’m bored.” He simply stated.
“Are you done with your essay?” You asked, not looking up from your computer.
“No.” He huffed.
“Then finish it.” You said.
“But I don’t want to.” He whined.
“Then stop bothering me.”
“Now that’s just offending considering I’m your friend. It is basically my job to annoy you woman.”
“Really? Because right now you deserve an award for it then.”
Andrew rolled his eyes, “Can we please watch a movie? The essay’s not due till Friday anyway.”
You briefly looked up at him, “No.”
“Why?” He asked.
“Because I want to finish this essay.” You replied.
“So an essay is more important than me?” Andrew said.
“Right now, yes.” You deadpanned.
This made him silent for a moment before he spoke up, “Now that’s just plain rude.”
Silence lingered the two of you for a moment, finally making you look up from your laptop.
Turns out, Andrew was still looking in your direction, but now he jutted his bottom lip into a pout and was giving you the biggest puppy dog eyes you have ever seen in your life.
You would be heartless to say no when he looks like a kicked puppy.
You took a deep breath and saved the document you had just edited before closing the device.
“Fine. But I get a low grade on this essay, then I’m suing you.”
This time, it was Andrew’s turn to roll his eyes as he got up from the couch, walked towards you and hoisted you up on his shoulder as if you weighed nothing more than a feather.
“Good. Now stop talking and let’s choose a movie.” He said, dropping you on the couch.
“Why am I even friends with you?” You sighed, exasperated.
“Because I’m cool and I have an amazing personality.” Andrew answered without missing a beat.
“Is being humble included in that personality?” You teased.
“Sod off.” He muttered.
