Chapter Text
it was a late night and in Marcy's dark room she tossed and turned in her bed, another sleepless night, not that she had expected to fall asleep in the first place.
It was frustrating nonetheless and for what must have been the 10th time, she reopened her phone. Checking her social media and if anyone had uploaded any videos to watch to keep her company until she was tired enough to fall asleep.
Nothing new.
With a sigh, her mind drifted to the past.
It had been about 4 years since the last time she had met up with Sasha and Anne.
And she barely talked to either of them. Maybe every third month or so
to check up on each other but the conversations never lasted long.
All of them had just gotten too busy with studies and other things.
Not to mention their parents had told all of them they needed to start paying for their own trips if they wanted to see one another as they were old enough to do that.
Which made things way harder to meet up than it was when they were younger.
The first 3 years had been fine and they would always meet up during holidays and breaks.
But the older they got, The harder it became.
So the last time they had seen one another, was when they had been 16. Now they were 20.
Marcy hesitantly opened a 5-month-old chat she had, had with Anne
and scrolled up to read thru some of their past conversations.
It brought a smile to her face. She missed her. Her first-ever friend.
Marcy hated that she was losing contact with her and Sasha.
but there was nothing she could do to change their busy lives.
She missed Sasha like crazy too and it wasn't quite right without her;
they would always be a trio but with Anne?
It was different. It had always been different. She had found herself drifting to Anne's side on so many occasions she had lost count of it.
Being around Anne brought her warmth and could be at ease.
She brought a sense of comfort to Marcy, always had.
She quickly scrolled down to the latest msg and thought for a moment.
"Should I just write to her? Nah.. she is probably asleep and I don't want to wake her, and she will most likely be busy with uni and won't have time to chat" Marcy convinced herself and felt saddened by her thoughts.
Marcy closed her phone and got up from bed. Tired of laying there and not being able to fall asleep and with the bad thoughts filling her head, like how Sasha and Anne probably didn't need her or how much they must hang out and still have one another. Without her. was getting to her.
Marcy needed to distract her mind asap.
She tried to draw for a while but nothing came out as she wanted.
She had a few ideas she wanted to draw for a webcomic she was planning but as soon as she felt she got somewhere she just didn't think it was good enough, she could do better. And her thoughts were still lingering on Anne and Sasha.
She exited her drawing program and put away her tablet without saving. in frustration.
"LEAGUE IT IS."
However, when Marcy logged in she saw a familiar username, and this time she didn't hesitate to write.
MarcyuWu: Anne?? Since when do you play league again? And why are you awake! :
AnnaBanana: I couldn't sleep and then saw a notification from you and remembered I did promise to play with you sometime, so I just logged in to check what I had on the account. :
Notification?
Marcy opened her phone again and saw she had a message from Anne, asking why in the world she reacted to something that was like 1-year-old back and if Marcy yet again had a bad sleeping schedule.
Marcy facepalmed. Well, that's Awkward. she must have accidentally reacted to something while scrolling through the messages.
As for why Anne probably remembered that they were going to play someday was most likely due to their last msgs to one another.
Had been about that they should try playing something together someday.
It had never happened and then been forgotten.
That is, until that night.
MarcyuWu: sooooo… since you can't sleep and I definitely can't sleep. do you Want to play? :
AnnaBanana: sure, I'll call you, sec. :
Marcy opened the discord tab and stared at the screen for the pop-up to come. She felt her heart hammering in her chest.
Why was she so nervous all of a sudden? It was Anne. It was no big deal. Sure it had been even longer since she had heard Anne's voice but it wasn't anything bigger than that.
Maybe it was a mix of excitement of finally getting to play with Anne and getting to talk to her again.
The call came and it gave Marcy a slight scare from the discord call noise, making her knock her water bottle over making the water spill out.
"Ah- shit." Marcy quickly accepted the call. And headed to the kitchen to get some paper towels to clean up the mess. Thank you wireless headset.
"Hey, you!" Anne's voice echoed through the headset and it made Marcy's smile grow.
"Anne! It's been so long, oh my gosh"
"It's been TOO long, how are you? What have you been up to lately? Feels like forever since we last spoke" Anne chuckled.
"Well, currently I'm cleaning up the water I just spilled, other than that, nothing much really, same old things, drawing, gaming. You know how it is"
Marcy could hear how Anne laughed whole heartily at that.
Hearing Anne laugh, filled Marcy's chest with an familiar tingling warmth.
"Classic mar-mar, how did that even happen?"
"I Knocked my water bottle over when you called"
"Aw, poor water bottle, what did it ever do to you?"
"Being in the way of my hand apparently" Marcy chuckled as she finished cleaning up and sat down in her chair again.
"What about you though? How is University?"
"Great actually! It isn't as hectic as before and in a month or so I will be on a break. So soon I will have all the time in the world" Anne beamed.
Marcy could pretty much hear and imagine the grin Anne was having on the other side of the call.
The two chatted for a while, catching up and talking about random stuff that came to mind, like how Marcy was planning on creating a webcomic and shared some art of her characters. Something Anne got hyped up for and asked Marcy to tell her more about.
Marcy didn't want to give out too many spoilers and tried to keep it a mystery and shallow but Anne sounded so excited for her.
So She couldn't help but let a few things slip as she talked about all the ideas she had planned.
And before she knew it. She was rambling about it but caught herself doing it a few minutes in.
"Oh, sorry ops I started to rant again" Marcy chuckled nervously.
"Huh? Why are you sorry? I love hearing you talk about things you are passionate about, it's cute."
Marcy felt herself choke on air as she registered what Anne had just said, as well as banging her knee into her desk from switching her sitting position at that moment.
For Anne's part, she just heard a loud BANG.
followed by a small whimper from Marcy.
"Woah dude, you ok?" Anne asked
"Yeep, I'm great! Just banged my knee into the desk" Marcy's voice came out strained and Anne shook her head with a small smile.
"That does not sound believable at all Mar-Mar" Anne said and then continued
"But I'm glad you still are the same old clumsy Marcy" Anne smiled fondly, just staring at the screen and the pictures they had sent between each other during their conversation.
Marcy didn't answer at first.
"Marcy? Hello?"
"Ahh, I'm only like this with you around, haven't done anything clumsy in a long time" Marcy finally said and Anne was confused about what she meant by that but the idea of Marcy not being clumsy was hilarious so she let out a small laugh.
"You? Not clumsy? Sure I believe that when I see it, so you know, never." Anne bantered making Marcy do a fake gasp as if she had been offended.
"But should we play a few games? I think the sun is coming up" Anne suggested and while Anne couldn't see it, Marcy nodded.
"Good idea, we talked for like 2 hours so a few games before bed sounds great"
"So What do you play nowadays?" Anne asked
"Mostly Adc and mid lane, but I could play anything if there is a role you are more comfortable with"
"Oh, I could be your support to your adc!" Anne chirped up, feeling excited to be able to help Marcy get stronger in the game.
"You do know that's a very passive role right? I thought you preferred to get into the nitty-gritty"
"Yeah, but it is an honor to protect the great Marcy Wu"
"I think I will be the one to still protect you" Marcy chuckled
"What is that supposed to mean?" Anne faked hurt.
"Oh nothing ~ just, you know... the last time you played you were in silver and well… I'm diamond 1 so…" Marcy trailed of
"Oh crud, you're right. I'm going to get eaten alive with your ranking,
wait you sure you are ok playing with me then?" Anne asked
"Of course, you goof, we play some fun normal matches, ranked makes me mad either way. plus... I'm just glad we can do something like this together, you know?" Marcy smiled fondly. Feeling happy to talk to Anne and catching up again.
She had missed her more than she thought
"Me to Marcy. And You? Mad? Ok now THAT'S a lie"
"You'd be surprised" Marcy laughed.
The two started to play but instead of the 2-3 quick matches, they had decided to play. They continued to play until the sunrise had passed long ago and Anne's phone alarm went off.
"Oh shit- I think we need to stop her Mars, I need to get ready for Uni"
"Holy crap, you're right. It's already 9 am" Marcy checked the clock and looked outside and sure enough, the sun was up and glaring.
"I had super fun though! And I'd love to do this again, and it was nice to just.. you know, talk and hear your voice again, I have missed you so much" Anne said. Her voice lowered on the "to hear your voice again" part. but loud enough for Marcy to still hear it.
Marcy blushed a bit as she smiled and felt her heart, beat in her chest.
"Me to Anne, I really hope we can do this again," Marcy said as she fiddled with the nearest object she could find on her desk which happens to be her tablet pen.
"I make sure of it dude, I'll text you, see ya!"
"Bye Anne, have a good day at Uni."
The two hanged up the call and the room grew quiet.
Marcy went to bed shortly after and was thinking of her early morning With Anne they had just shared. It made her smile and feel fuzzy inside.
A while later, Marcy noticed her phone vibrate.
It was from Anne.
It was a selfie of herself on her way to uni, already with some early boba in hand.
But the first thing Marcy noticed was Anne's big pretty smile and brown eyes.
As well as how her hair had grown out quite a bit since the last time she had seen her.
She looked cute and attractive with her hair up. It was different from her shorter messy curly hair but cute all the same.
The next thing Marcy noticed was a familiar-looking bracelet on her wrist that she held up.
"Found this and had to of course put it on" was written in the text message.
It was a blue bean bracelet with a single green one in the middle.
Marcy's smile grew as did her blush.
And immediately opened her drawer next to her bed and put on her matching one. The same-looking one as Anne wore but instead of the blue color with a single green bean.
Hers was green with a blue bean in the middle.
The trio all had some sort of matching jewelry.
Anne and Marcy had the bracelets
Anne and Sasha had matching necklaces
While Marcy and Sasha had matching earrings.
But from what Marcy noticed Anne had only put on the bracelet.
Marcy took picture of her wrist and sent it back to Anne.
"Got mine too! And wow girl, you grew out your hair, you look amazing, I actually got long hair to now. Lol"
Not even a minute later a response came.
"Pic now!!"
"Nuh, I'm going to pass out soon I will look dead, maybe another time" Marcy responded.
"Booo."
The two texted for a while, with Anne begging Marcy to give her a picture of herself since she hadn't seen her in years, and since Marcy wasn't the biggest fan to post her face online Anne only remembered how Marcy had looked like when they were still 16.
The conversation made Marcy realize Anne probably had no clue that she had pierced her ears more, not to speak of the tongue piercing and eyebrow that she had gotten when she turned 18 since she didn't exactly need her parent's permission anymore.
With gave her an idea.
"You will have to see me IRL to find out if I changed or not," Marcy wrote making Anne spam her with crying emojis and calling her a tease and a meanie.
Marcy chuckled at that and not long after she felt herself finally falling asleep.
Anne, on the other side.
Stared at her phone as she walked. Almost bumping into people or light poles, in waiting for a response.
When she didn't get one. She smiled fondly at her phone.
"She must have fallen asleep," she thought to herself. Feeling relieved that her sleep-deprived friend finally got some sleep.
Something Anne very much craved at the moment but It had been worth it to lose sleep. Because she got to reconnect with Marcy again.
