"Why did you call me here, A5158?" Sakaguchi Ango asked, eyeing the redhead with suspicion. "Wait, I have a better question, how did you call me here?"
His fight or flight response was going mad, and cold sweat was running down his neck.
He was, after all, in the middle of a forest, completely alone, with Nakahara Chuuya of all people.
The shorter man looked awful, honestly (it made sense, Dazai did betray the mafia a month ago, and left Chuuya, his lover, behind) but he could still kill him without even trying.
Chuuya smirked. How he managed to look scarier than Dazai would ever look, even with his eyes bloodshot from crying, Ango would never know.
"I wouldn't think too hard on that last question, let's just say people underestimate me quite often," he explained lowly.
Ah, so he knew more than everyone thought, no surprise there, ability user A5158 was not one to mess with. His status as an omega notwithstanding.
"And about why... Ane-san told me you would be able to help me out just fine." Ango took a step back just as Chuuya took one to get closer.
They kept doing that until Ango's back hit a tree. Chuuya had to crane his neck to make eye contact (Ango wasn't stupid enough to make a comment about his height, though).
"I know you are recording everything and that you can call reinforcements at any second, but I don't care, we both know the Special Division wouldn't stand a chance against me." Chuuya cracked his knuckles. "At least you weren't dumb enough to try to hide some agents in the forest."
Ango breathed in, and pushed his glasses up. "And have them kicked into the sun for making you angry? No, thank you."
Then, he sighed. "What do you want Nakahara? And why would I do anything for you?"
Chuuya beamed and leaned in, and if Ango didn't know any better, he would have thought he looked adorable. However, given the circumstances, he was probably baring his teeth in warning rather than smiling at him.
At the same time, Ango's nose twitched. They were so close he could tell there was something different with the redhead's usual scent, perhaps it was... sweeter than the last time they interacted?
He would know, Chuuya's unconventional fragrance had the tendency to harshly slap everyone in the face with a bold mix of red hot habaneros, black cherries, and a hint of freshly cut roses. He was literally imposible to forget.
"I will leave the mafia, you will clean my records and help me get a normal life, or so help me Arahabaki I will burn your stupid Division to the ground." Chuuya's hoarse voice pulled the other out of his thoughts.
Ango lifted an eyebrow, surprised by the other's words. "You want to betray the mafia? I have to say, I didn't expect that."
Chuuya sighed, and he seemed actually done with the universe. Ango could relate.
"I'm pregnant, Sakaguchi, and I'm not raising a child in the mafia, nor I'm giving them up on adoption, I've seen enough orphans starving to death in this city," he explained bluntly. "Besides, Ane-san has my back, so I'm not hurting the people I care about by giving them the cold shoulder out of the blue... unlike someone else did."
Oh, so that was the explanation for Chuuya's weird scent, he smelled like a marked omega waiting for a baby. Ango already had theories about the father, not that the mystery was that hard to figure out.
Well, at least Ango now knew that the meeting wasn't a trap, and that Chuuya genuinely needed something from him.
"I will help you, but if there is a world ending catastrophe or something along those lines... you help us back," Ango stated, playing with fire.
Chuuya's right eye twitched. Ango didn't need to be a genius to know the omega wanted to threaten to murder him on the spot.
"Fine, but the world better not try to end in the next eight months because I'm not lifting a single finger while waiting for the baby," the redhead warned him.
"Fair." Ango nodded. "I'm assuming Dazai doesn't know?"
Chuuya growled like a feral wolf. Yeah, bad move.
"He decided to have sex with me, mark me, and abandon me the next day, without any kind of warning or explanation!" Chuuya started screaming, rightfully furious. "He doesn't need to know because I'm going to have my kid and erase his stupid mark off my neck."
Ango cringed, he was aware of the fact that Chuuya and Dazai had never had a particularly healthy relationship, and Chuuya was always the one that got the short end of the stick.
The redhead had been too dependent on the alpha to actually end their relationship, though.
The whole 'I'm going to be a mother' situation was probably giving Chuuya a new perspective. Now the consequences of his actions would not only affect him, but also his baby.
"You know how my biology as an omega works, I know what is best for my child, and I won't let anyone hurt them," Chuuya warned, pulling a knife out of thin air. "So if you tell that stupid alpha anything, I will end you."
Ango lifted his hands in defeat. "I have no reason to tell him." And he didn't.
He knew Dazai hated him right now, and that if he ever found out about Ango knowing about his child and not telling him, his fury would rise. Nevertheless, A5158 could be far more dangerous when angered... at least to Ango, that is.
Chuuya inspected him to see if he was tricking him, he could probably smell lies miles away. Then, he nodded.
"How much time do I have to lie low?" The omega asked.
Ango decided to give him a deal he didn't offer to Dazai. After all, A5158 was many things, but he didn't murder without a reason, and he was far more mentally stable.
"If you are willing to take a new identity and have a makeover? A few months, tops." Ango fixed his suit. "But I can't protect you from Mori Ougai."
"Let me keep my first name and I have no problem." Chuuya shrugged. "Also, Ane-san will take care of the Port Mafia."
Oh? That was... interesting. Ango wondered if Ozaki-san would actually kill Mori if she couldn't convince him not to go after Chuuya.
"Very well, you will be known as Kashimura Chuuya soon enough."
Chuuya gave him a sweet smile, the first honest smile he had ever given him, actually.
Uh, Ango thought to himself while his cheeks turned pink, ability user A5158 sure was a pretty little omega, wasn't he?
─────
When Chuuya found out he was pregnant with Dazai's kid, he almost collapsed right on the spot.
Thankfully, Ane-san had been there, and she would never let something happen to him if she could help it.
She had been the one that convinced him to just run away from the Port Mafia, to be honest. And Chuuya would never be able to deny her anything.
"Do what I tell you, lad, I will be just fine without you, I'm an executive for a reason."
Besides, he had known she had been right about how dangerous it would be for his child with the Boss around (the biological child of Soukoku would be too tempting for a twisted monster like him), and that a criminal organization was not the best environment for a baby.
It had hurt, leaving his family for a new one once again. However, at the end, it was worth it.
"Mama!" His adorable Fumiya squealed in his arms and played with Chuuya's dyed jet black hair, still as curly as ever.
"Are you ready to go to Shima-san's bakery with mommy?" He cooed at his son, trying and failing to not pitch his voice a little higher than usual.
Chuuya had managed to land a job at a small bakery where he basically did anything he could to help Shima Nakamura, a sweet old man that had no family left, but loved to take care of Fumiya, and always let Chuuya handle his store.
The two years old kid nodded eagerly, and Chuuya's eyes became impossibly soft under his fake aviator glasses.
Those things had been Ango's idea, he mentioned how they changed his face on one of his visits.
The man insisted on inviting himself to Chuuya's house from time to time to 'check on them' (it was pretty obvious Ango's alpha instincts had kicked in at the moment he saw Fumi).
"You are the cutest child on earth, Fumiya." Chuuya kissed his nose and his freckled cheeks softly.
Fumiya was Chuuya's carbon copy, the only thing that resembled his biological dad was the color of his hair, chocolate brown.
Speaking of Dazai Osamu... Chuuya had made sure to get rid of anything he had of the man. Even his choker was gone.
Technically, it had only been a gag gift from the alpha that Chuuya ended up actually liking, but at some point it became the symbol of their relationship not only as lovers, but as Soukoku, the inseparable duo. Except they weren't together anymore, and Chuuya couldn't stand having that thing around his neck anymore.
After being unable to stop the drowning sensation that his choker brought, Chuuya got rid of the damn thing. Now, only his low ponytail covered the nasty looking scar left from his erased bonding mark.
Sometimes, Chuuya wondered if Dazai had even noticed that he couldn't feel Chuuya anymore. Sometimes, he told himself that there was no way he didn't realize, Dazai just didn't care.
He shook his head, he wasn't supposed to think about him. They were nothing but mere strangers now.
"All right, let's go now! We don't want to make Shima-san wait for us, after all!"
Chuuya heard a whine as he made his way to the front door with his child in his arms, he chuckled softly.
"Yes Rika, you are super cute too."
His puppy did a little dance as Chuuya sent her kisses, she was a mutt he had rescued from the streets months ago, and she was half blind. That didn't make her any less beautiful.
"I will walk you around later, I can convince Ane-san to sneak in Kyouka-chan, I know you love her."
Chuuya left the house, took a deep breath, and beamed.
Life as a normal, ordinary citizen was good. He didn't need to fight, he finally got himself a dog, he could wear whatever he wanted, his boss wasn't a total psychopath, and he still got to see Ane-san, Kyoka-chan and the Akutagawas if he was lucky enough.
Sure, he had had to adapt to the whole 'mom' thing, he had to quit smoking, he couldn't drink himself into unconsciousness anymore, and he couldn't curse in front of his kid (doing so had been such a second nature to Chuuya that some 'bad words' still left his lips when he felt overwhelmed). But he had a family his own now, something he had wanted since he was known as the King of The Sheep.
Yeah, Fumiya had been absolutely worth it.
─────
Two more years later, Ango decided to drop a metaphorical bomb (he hadn't been sent any real bombs in years) during one of his daily calls to Chuuya.
"So, don't freak out, but Dazai has been going berserk looking for you these past weeks, and he came to me."
Chuuya had to remind himself that Fumiya was sleeping to avoid screaming bloody murder.
"And what exactly did you tell him?" Chuuya asked sweetly.
Ango didn't miss a beat, he had decided not to break the news in person on purpose (he liked having all his limbs attached to his body, thanks), so he was perfectly safe at the other side of Yokohama.
"Everything... by accident."
The floor under Chuuya's feet cracked.
"Everything?!" Chuuya whisper-shouted, quickly going to check on Fumiya.
If he started running on the ceiling, no one was there to call him out on it.
"Yeah... sorry Chuuya, I don't know how he made me spill so fast," Ango apologized sincerely, after all, in the four years he had been visiting Chuuya, he had gotten attached.
He had realized that Chuuya was much more human than he had thought. (And that he was caring, beautiful, brave, loyal to a fault, and oh dear Ango might have fallen in love... but he didn't have the guts to say anything, not yet.)
"Fuck, It's okay Ango, I know what he is capable of." Chuuya gritted his teeth, opening the door to his own bedroom (Fumiya loved to sleep there), only to find a tall figure hovering over his sleeping son.
In the blink of an eye, he finished the call, dropped the cellphone, turned the lights on, and kicked Dazai Osamu to the ground.
Fumiya woke up with a small cry because of the sudden noise "Mommy?"
"Don't worry, darling, I got this, could you please go with Rika to the living room?" Chuuya encouraged gently, Rika had gotten bigger these past years (she was taller than Chuuya when standing on her hind legs), and he knew Dazai hated big dogs.
"But, but, who is that man?" Fumiya got out of the bed, heading to the door even when he was so confused. He knew his mom could handle himself, he had seen him take down several alphas three times his size when a gang tried to rob Shima-san's bakery.
Said man was watching Chuuya with his face burning red and sparkling eyes, clearly reaching the conclusion that the boy was Fumiya, his biological son that Ango obviously blabbed about. That four eyes better be fucking glad Chuuya actually liked him and would therefore not proceed to beat him to a pulp.
"Doesn't matter, do as you are told," Chuuya insisted.
Fumiya didn't waste any more time and bolted out of the room.
Then, Chuuya turned to the alpha under his foot, that was currently looking at him like he had personally gone and invented bandages.
He just couldn't live in peace, could he?
─────
Dazai Osamu left Chuuya behind, that's true, but he made sure to mark him so no one would dare to take his rightful place as Chuuya's alpha until they met again. Until Dazai became the alpha Nakahara Chuuya deserved.
See, he wasn't stupid, he knew that Chuuya was a beautiful, fucking gorgeus, exotic male omega that everyone in the mafia wanted for themselves. Therefore, he had simply made sure they all knew who Chuuya belonged to.
He hid for two years, restraining himself from checking on Chuuya, since he found it unfair. It wouldn't be okay for Dazai to know how the redhead was doing, only for Chuuya to be kept in the dark.
Furthermore, only an idiot wouldn't notice that more than half of the agents in the Port Mafia loved Chuuya with burning passion. They would take care of him, especially his Ane-san.
Dazai even put a bomb under the omega's car so no one would even think that Chuuya was some kind of double agent helping him scape, and to ensure that the redhead would be safe and sound in the mafia. Wasn't Dazai the best? He was rather proud of his perfect plan.
During that time, he felt his bond with Chuuya weaken a lot, sometimes he didn't even feel it, but he chalked it up to their lack of contact.
Then, he joined the Armed Detective Agency, and it took him other two years for him to get settled on the side that saved lives, to learn how to be a good person and do what Odasaku had wanted him to.
After that, the opportunity to meet Chuuya again presented itself. Dazai let himself get captured by the Port Mafia to get Atshushi's information and see his chibi dog again, Chuuya would know he was up to something 'fishy' and immediately dart into the dungeons.
However, for the first time in years, things didn't go along with his plans.
"Chuuya-san left the Mafia not long after you, Dazai-san," Akutagawa had said when Dazai asked. "Unlike you, though, he left us letters to explain himself, and he contacts us once in a while... It's called having a heart, you should try it."
It didn't take long for Dazai to start getting restless. Not only was Chuuya nowhere to be found, but Mori was dead, and Kouyou had taken his place. She wouldn't even open her mouth around Dazai.
Ignoring Ranpo's furtive looks (the detective was amazing but Dazai wasn't going to let him anywhere near Chuuya), it took him several weeks of investigation and finally interrogating (read: manipulating) Sakaguchi Ango to know what the hell had happened.
Chuuya left the mafia after finding out he was pregnant... with Dazai's child.
First, he didn't believe it, then he got incredibly happy and determined. He could have his own family if he managed to win Chuuya back, no, when he won Chuuya back.
He needed to show Chuuya that he was no longer toxic, that he was a far better person and that he could join him into raising Fumiya. Wasn't that name adorable? Dazai couldn't keep the goofy, hopeful smile off his face.
He had already lost too many years of his son's life.
That's why, he didn't waste any time to get to Chuuya's house and get into it through the window.
Everything after that happened faster than he had predicted.
One second he was watching a toddler who was surely Fumiya sleep (he was so tiny, and looked just like his mother, his alpha instincts screamed to protect him), and the next Chuuya was bruising his ribs, making him cough blood as he pounded into him like a furious lioness fighting for her cub's life.
Dazai lingered his gaze on the other, just narrowly hearing his omega talk to Fumiya.
Chuuya's hair reached past his shoulders and the red of his natural hair showed only at the roots of it. He had a sea green turtle neck, and black cargo pants with dog hair all over the fabric.
Dazai couldn't belive he was finally right in front of Chuuya. If it weren't for the outraged 'certain death' expression on his face, the alpha would have tried to hug him with no hesitation.
He was so dazzlingly stunning.
He dumbly cooed something along the lines of "Chuuya~ it's really you" as he attempted to get his brain out of blue screening.
Chuuya's foot, right on top of Dazai's chest, stepped harder. Then, he snarled at him.
"What the heck are you even doing here, Mackerel?!" Chuuya screeched, attempting to censor himself... probably in case Fumiya decided to listen to their, ah, conversation.
Dazai simply smiled, he had missed his Chuuya, but he needed to put his head in the game or everything would go down hill from there. He had to get this right.
"I came here to explain why I left... and to ask for forgiveness as well as a chance to take my place as Fumiya's dad and your alpha, Chuuya, please," he begged, in the most sincere tone he could muster.
Immediately, Chuuya let go of him, rolling his eyes so hard Dazai was afraid he would get dizzy.
(That was not the reaction he had been hoping for.)
"I know why you left, you dull alpha, Ango told me," Chuuya stated, sitting on his Queen sized bed full of pillows.
(Ane-san must keep sending him money, that shit was expensive and Chuuya just owned a bakery that an old man left to him... according to Ango, that is.)
"And I forgave you for leaving ages ago, after all, if you hadn't, I would have left you, eventually." Chuuya glared at him. "You were nowhere near ready to be a father, and what we had was not healthy in any way."
Dazai swallowed dry. All right, his instant Chuuya translator told him the other wasn't lying. However, he was angry at him, but not for abandoning him... just for breaking into his house in the middle of the night to watch his son like a creep.
He better explain that detail at some point. It wouldn't do to have misunderstanding this soon.
"Yeah, I guess you are right... but, I understand that, and that's why I'm here, to show you that I've changed." Dazai slowly stood up, wincing a little, to go sit beside Chuuya.
The redhead lifted an eyebrow, not buying any of his words, as he signaled with one hand the forced window.
"I... I was just, um, a little too eager to find you and meet Fumiya," Dazai mumbled, sending furtive glances at Chuuya.
The man sighed. "Look, Osamu."
His first name got Chuuya Dazai's complete and undivided attention, a feat few could claim as something they could achieve.
"Even if you did change, and you are now a fucking saint... I'm not interested, I know for a fact that one way or another we will end up just like before," Chuuya stated, so convinced about his words that it broke Dazai's heart into a million pieces. "And I'd rather be a single mom than show Fumiya it's okay to stay in a toxic situation."
Dazai quickly put his slender hands on top of Chuuya's petite waist. Damn, Dazai could feel how built he was underneath his clothes.
Wait, no, he had to concentrate.
"Chuuya I can't convince you that I'm telling the truth, but you know there is a chance that I'm not scheming something behind your back." Dazai brought the omega closer, so he could smell in his scent his sincerity "Are you really not going to even try? That's not like you at all."
Chuuya put a hand on his chest to create some space between them. "I know you aren't lying, Mackerel, that's not the problem."
Dazai actually had to think to understand where his omega was going. When had Chuuya become so difficult to read?
"It's just, if I give it a go, and this doesn't go well... I won't be the only one hurt," he explained solemnly. "I have to think about Fumiya, Osamu, and this conversation is making my inner omega go restless, It's making me want to throw you out that window."
In less than second, Dazai concluded that Chuuya would do anything for his baby boy. And that he was not going to put Fumiya's happiness in danger for what now was a ghost of his past that insisted on coming back every time Chuuya finally got over him. Dazai had always been like that, even before the betrayal.
Dazai swore in his head, as he was clearly not making any progress in winning Chuuya's heart back. He needed a trump card, something that would turn around this conversation in his favor.
"But we are mated, Chuuya! It isn't healthy to keep being away from each other!" Dazai blurted, nervous in a way that only his tiny but powerful omega could make him.
He expected Chuuya to soften, to realize he was right and ponder upon Dazai's request more.
Instead, Chuuya froze, as if Dazai had told him the most horrible thing he had ever heard.
"You didn't notice that I severed our bond?" The redhead whispered softly.
Dazai felt a chill run down his spine and his face loose color. "What?"
Chuuya just brushed aside the black hair around his neck, showing a scar where his bite mark had previously been.
"Chuuya... why?" Dazai gasped, falling off the bed. "Why would you do that?!"
The omega gave him a sad look that told him just how much he had truly fucked up, that he had seriously miscalculated... that he wouldn't be able to fix his mess this time.
"You need to leave, Dazai." Chuuya stood up. "You are excellent at doing that, one more time won't hurt... and please, do not come back."
Dazai scrambled to get to his feet as his former omega calmly walked to the door.
"What about Fumiya?" The alpha asked quietly.
Chuuya paused for a second, but then kept going.
"I will take good care of him, Dazai-san, he is my son ."
Ah, so he was not welcomed into the kid's life.
In a world where omegas are biologically unable to hurt their children in any way, they always do what's best for them.
The people in Japan who made the laws about children, broken couples, and custody, knew that better than anyone.
That's why, if an omega didn't want their alpha anywhere near their kid, there was nothing the alpha could legally do to stop the omega from taking the child away from them.
Moreover, in this particular case, Chuuya had Sakaguchi Ango on his side. Dazai had noticed that the other alpha had a thing for Chuuya.
Chuuya put him in a dead end. Furthermore, Dazai was self-aware enough to know he wrought this upon himself.
He truly was a demon.
"Yeah." Dazai took a step back. "Yeah, of course Kashimura-san."
That was who Chuuya was now. He should at least respect that.
Chuuya closed the door of his bedroom without looking back. Dazai wondered if the redhead was trying to give him a taste of his own medicine.
He sighed and left. Dazai Osamu walked hours in the dark of the night to get to his flat, taking the long way.
By the time he got there, the sun was already showing in the horizon.
He didn't know why he was even surprised. He had always known everything and everyone he wanted would eventually be lost.
(Perhaps he had thought Chuuya would be the exception.)
