Work Text:

Kit busied himself with piling a bunch of junk food into a basket while Eddie rummaged through the magazines on display near the front of the convenient store.

"This shit is all so cliche. I mean," His tone changed to mocking, "'Cover model contest winner! What boys really talk about!'"

"'Rock Hunks?'" Kit read aloud and followed with a small snort when Eddie quickly flipped the magazine in question facedown.

Ed cleared his throat , "What I'm trying to say is, all people talk about is what the newest trend is. Why is everyone so dead-set on following what everyone else is doing like- like these blind little sheep?" He was getting visibly frustrated now , biting at the skin around his fingernails.

Kit sighed and ran a hand along his shoulder. "I don't know, it can be fun sometimes. Look, these quizzes are pretty entertaining." He grabbed one of the brighter magazines and flipped through it. Eddie was peering over his shoulder now in curiousity.

"Ah, here we go! 'Does your crush like you back?'," Kit put on his best gameshow host voice ,"How close are you and your crush: not very close, or pretty good friends?" He looked to Eddie and waited for his answer when the man in question scoffed.

"You've got to be fucking with me." Kit said nothing, still silently watching him. Ed let out an exaggerated groan. "We're pretty close, I guess."

Kit smiled and patted his shoulder. "Good! Now, when you and your crush are talking do they look around and get distracted or maintain blush-worthy eye contact?" He turned to give Ed that same, almost intense stare.

" Uhhh...," Eddie stared a hole into the magazine, fidgeting with his jacket sleeve, "The second one."

"Do you two need help finding something?" A store clerk approached them from behind and had a bit of irritation to their tone.

Kit jumped a bit and peered up at the worker. "No, we're just looking! Sorry." Eddie watched his face turn red as he spoke and the clerk dismissed themselves with a sigh. He cleared his throat and continued with the questions.

"Alright last one. Do you ever make your crush laugh?" Kit marked his place on the questionnaire with his index finger and looked over at the metalhead who now took to lying on the store floor instead of the crouching position he was in earlier.

Eddie's face formed a shit-eating grin "Well yeah! I'm probably the funniest guy they know!" Kit snorted at that before rolling his eyes and reading the bottom section of the page.

Kit took notice of how Eddie seemed to lean closer in anticipation of his results, his long hair tickling Kit's bare arm.

"Says here if you answer mostly in the right column you should definitely give it a shot!" Kit exclaimed, crumpling the magazine in his excitement. The metalhead yelled out in triumph, pulling Kit into a hug that knocked both of them to the floor.

"Ed, you're gonna get us kicked out again!" The goth cackled and tried to pry Eddie off as people started to glare. Once the older man calmed down he brushed the both of them off and helped Kit to his feet. They rang up their snacks and exited the store before they could be scolded.

"Told you that trendy stuff can be fun sometimes. Now will you tell me who your crush is?" Back at Eddie's trailer, Kit let his head dangle off the edge of his bed as he listened to the metalhead tune his guitar. Eddie took a moment to pause and stare at the man beside him before answering.

"Maybe one day. For some reason I got a boost in confidence."
