"Tohru. Why did you come back without permission?" Damocles demanded!
"I owe her a life-debt, Father." Tohru stammered.
Damocles frowned, even more suspicious than before. "And how is it that a mere human managed to save the life of a dragon?"
Gaining confidence, Tohru answered, "She pulled out my Gods-Slaying Sword and lived." It was like a switch had been thrown. The dark clouds, the malice, even his expression changed. "A human pulled out your Gods-Slaying Sword and lived? Ah, you don't believe in gods? Has the Church's grip loosened so much? Hm... Could you do it again, what was your name? Kobayashi-sama?" "Eh??"
And so, Kobayashi had a whirlwind tour of the Dragon Lands, pulling out swords. She may or may not have been drunk for the first few extractions, but that was no problem. The cured dragons were extremely grateful, of course. "How might we repay your life-debt?" "I want your vote on the Dragon Council." "Done!" And so, Tohru became the next Evil Dragon Queen, and with the proof that the Church no longer had such a tight grip on human souls, indeed, that atheists were a growing demographic and thus, could tilt the balance of power in the Evil Dragon's favor, they were able to bring the Good Dragons to the negotiating table.
The Evil Dragons were able to successfully convince the Council that if the Evil Dragons were to ally with the Atheist faction of humanity and turn the tide of the war against the Good Dragons and the Roman Catholic Church, who had no similar remedy against Demon-Slaying Swords, then eventually, the Good Dragons would lose the war. Not that the Roman Catholic Church weren't guilty of more and more evil acts, themselves. On the other hand, the so-called Evil Dragons were capable of good, and with living with humanity. The Evil Dragons played the victim card against the Roman Catholic Church, and it was super-effective! The Good Dragons were pretty much forced to break off their alliance with the Roman Catholic Church, which left them even weaker in the negotiations. The trump card was when Kobayashi pulled out a Demon-Slaying Sword from a Good Dragon's wound, and thus, secured their vote as well. With so many votes across both parties, Tohru became the Supreme Chancellor. The united Dragon Council showed their gratitude to the couple by allowing Kobayashi to become immortal, which Tohru appreciated immensely. The fact that Kobayashi had to accept the immortality by eating a piece of Tohru's tail in front of everyone was... embarrassing, but it was delicious, after she got over how gross it looked. It wasn't REALLY cannibalism!
The united Dragons declared war on the Roman Catholic Church, and with their new Church-Slaying Swords, finally brought down the God/Demon of Suffering and his three Churches of Christianity, Judaism, and Islam. Religion never recovered from this death-blow, and Magic was brought back to the mortal realm. A mage donated a year of his life to Bernie Sanders, which prompted a grass-roots effort to follow, and the revivified Senator won the next Presidential election in a landslide win against Donald Trump. The Socialist Party revamped the economy, allowing more and more people free to research this new Magic and Green technology. It turned out that Magic was the missing formula in the Grand Unified Field Theory, and economical FTL travel was discovered. The resources of the multiverse were suddenly available, and Capitalism never recovered from this death-blow in the face of a post-scarcity society. Star Trek turned from a silly TV show to an actual reality. And thus, peace was brought to the multiverse, because of love.
