Work Text:
An array of snacks were laid about the living room table, neatly arranged and organized by saltiness and sweetness. Alongside them were glasses of iced roasted oolong tea paired with a pitcher to refresh them should they run dry. You admired your spread for a moment, taking the time to take photos for yourself to admire alone before sitting down at the couch before it and waited with keenness.
It had been a long while since you and Shu last had a moment to convene and just have any semblance of a date or get together; with you and your hectic schedule paired with his neverending work as an entertainer, free time just never coincided for either of you until now. Restaurants were bustling and always offering delicious meals and amusement parks and the like have that adventurous charm to them, but having him by your side was enough to fill your drained battery.
And he felt the same about you.
With a quiet click, the door to his streaming room opened up and out came Shu yawning, one hand on the door handle and the other stretched above his head in exhaustion. You jolt up at the intrusion and are quick to give a timid but inviting wave at your lover. In place of his usual attire, he was now donning a loosely tied ponytail and comfortable leisurewear. The moment he turns his eyes towards you, his expression softens and a loving expression spreads across his face.
"Whoa! Did you really set this all up?" Shu admired the setup you created. You proudly claimed credit and he chuckled in response and pat your head. "Great job!"
“Hehe,” he kisses into your hair before lowering himself into the seat next to you, “thank you, we really needed this.”
This entire set up was a plan two weeks in the making. You knew with both of your misaligned times, there was never going to be a proper day to go out all day long. Instead, he and you came to the agreement to have a home date. No need to dress up, go on an outing or travel to distant locations
Plus, all the money you would end up saving could go to grander things when you can both get a break at the same time. Although it was rather embarrassing to voice such thoughts, you did also mainly miss all the affection he would give you and there was not a chance he would show it off in public. Shu was quick to fluster when it came to PDA and occasionally you felt the same, at the very least understanding his position.
Although knowing that you were the only one to see him get flush red at all the love you give him was a bonus.
Shu slipped his fingers between yours almost on instinct and your pulse quickened; even if you lived together, the sudden contact would always send your heart aflutter.
“So what are we watching? Did you make a list of what you wanted to see?”
You pulled up your smartphone and showed him a compilation of different movies and anime shows you were hoping to pique his interest, giving him a summary of each one in hopes of one catching his eye. He would lean in closer every time there was one that he seemed keen on, blissfully unaware of the effect the warmth of his contact had on you. Or at least you hoped so.
Any other explanation involving his acknowledgment of your true feelings would utterly melt you into a puddle of self-consciousness. So play the fool you did; anything to save face.
Once decided upon, you turn on the film of his choice and with a blanket draped over both of your laps, you lean onto one another, fitting perfectly together.
As entertaining as the movie likely was, all you could focus on was him. His breathing, his laughter during funny bits, his gentle hold on your hand, his presence alone was enough. Unconsciously, your head found its way onto Shu's shoulder.
"Oh? You getting tired babe?" He asked, his fingers now combing through your hair. He always loved playing with your locks. "We can turn off the TV if you want."
Although you denied any grogginess, he saw past your words as always and slid your head onto his lap. Still petting your head, he comforted your dreary soul.
"It's okay," he whispered, hoping for you not to notice his own scarlet flush, "I'm not going anywhere. You can rest, I'll be here when you wake up."
You tried to fight the drowsiness but soon lost. You promised to make it up to him when you woke up with his favorite meal.
Shu looked down at his lover whose breathing was now delicate and steady and a smile snuck its way on his face. He knew how hard you worked, not just for today but every day. But it was moments like this where he was happiest, and seeing you so relaxed brought him the most joy.
He leaned in and stole a kiss, hoping to be forgiven for being so sneaky. Well, he would be sure to steal more when you wake up again anyway.
