Chapter Text
Cara and Fennec were cleaning weapons in the hold of Din’s ship when Cara decided to rustle up some vittles. She poked around the small galley, finding nothing satisfying. With a sigh, she sat back down.
“You didn’t find anything to your liking?” Fennec inquired, rubbing the barrel of her rifle with a soft cleaning cloth and a lot of...love and care.
Cara grunted a negative and went back to cleaning her own rifle irritably. Boba clomped down the hallway from the cockpit and settled on a crate near them. A crinkle from his location caught Cara’s attention.
“What’s that? Where did you get it?”
Boba’s had a mild look as he took a bite of it to spite her.
“I want it.”
It took a moment, but Boba answered finally. “This one’s mine. If I give you the second one I swiped from Din’s stash, you’ll owe me.”
Cara hummed in consideration. “How much?”
“A small favor.”
“Deal. Give it to me.” She made grabby hands and he tossed it over.
She never regretted anything more in her life. After consuming three water packs, she still felt a flush over her whole upper chest and her mouth felt stinging heat and flame. By this time, Din had come down from engaging the autopilot and had watched her with a tilted helmet, in obvious humor. The karker.
“Why do your ration packs taste like dry lava?” Cara wheezed. She opened a fourth water pack.
“What are you talking about?” The question was dry...and smug.
Cara turned over the ration wrapper and read the description. “Extra, extra, extra spicy. Where do you even get these??”
“At the market? They seemed to have an overabundance of them. The stall owner said they didn’t sell well, so they gave me a good discount.”
“That’s not an indication of their suitability Din.” Fennec shook her head.
Din huffed. “They’re not expired, if that’s what you’re thinking. I checked.”
“I can’t feel my mouth.” Cara complained, drinking another water packet.
“Well, you’re obviously no Mandalorian.”
Cara kicked Din’s shin. “You have to have no taste buds left to be a Mandalorian?”
“We eat really spicy foods.” Din shrugged as if mouth melting foods should be common.
“Boba, is this true? They can eat lava?”
“Cara, you couldn’t fathom the spice levels that they consume. Across the whole of Mandalorian society, spice is the only thing they can agree on. It brings them together. It’s easier to agree on a casserole than it is about Mandalorian governance.”
Din snorted and laughed as he looked Cara in the eye. “Spice is the Way.”
He went over to the galley an pulled a packet out of the cooler, handing it to her. It was blue milk.
“Drink up. It’ll calm down in a minute...”
She had to admit, the blue milk did help. A twinge from her bladder made itself known as she started to clean her blaster again.
“Kark.”
