Chapter Text
"We should break up, Wakatoshi," you said, looking down with tears in your eyes and all you could see through the tears was his volleyball shoes. "I feel like you don't love me anymore."
"I am sorry that I have made you feel that way," the tall volleyball player spoke, sadly yet awkwardly. "If you believe this is how things should go, I will not stop you, and will congratulate whomever you choose to be where I was before."
"Thank you, Wakatoshi," you smiled up at him with teary eyes. "I'm very sorry to break up with you right before your match with Karasuno but I believe in you and your team will win."
As it turns out, Wakatoshi wound up being a bit distracted during that match and Karasuno won, making it to nationals.
Oh! I never introduced myself, did I? Hello! I'm (Y/N) Sakusa! Well, at the time this takes place I was (Y/N) (L/N). But this is the story of how I fell in love with Kiyoomi Sakusa. It all started with breaking up with Wakatoshi Ushijima. I, prior to breaking up with Wakatoshi, had no idea who he was but I was about to learn.
"Wakatoshi," a gruff male voice said to Wakatoshi, making you turn your head towards the voice, but all you could see of him from your angle was the mop of curly black hair and the back of his Itachiyama Institute track jacket as well as his black athletic pants and volleyball sneakers. "Sorry about losing the match."
"It's fine, Sakusa," Wakatoshi lied to the man. "Ah, (L/N). You said you believed in my team and I and I failed. I'm sorry."
"You can still call me by my name, you know," You spoke easily with a sad smile on your face. "We're still friends."
He smiled a bit at your words.
"Don't mind, Wakatoshi," you apologized as you walked closer to the two athletes. "You'll be going pro soon, and as your friend, you shouldn't beat yourself up over losing against those crows."
See, I also went to Shiratorizawa Academy with Wakatoshi. I was a second year compared to him being a third year though. Maybe that's why I felt he didn't love me anymore? I can't remember anymore.
"Thank you for your kind words, (Y/N)," Wakatoshi spoke, before gesturing between the two of us. "Sakusa, (Y/N)."
It was then that you got a good look at the man before you, and his beautiful face left you speechless. There were two moles above his right eye, and most would say that that's not beautiful, but those people are idiots. His dark onyx irises only made your heart beat faster, and the rest of his face was covered by a high grade medical mask, which of course appealed to the mysterious vibe you had been getting from him before coming closer. "Hello, (L/N)."
"H-Hello, Sakusa," You stuttered out. "You can call me (Y/N) if you'd like."
"(N/N)-chaaaan~!" The voice of one Satori Tendou chimed in, making you and Sakusa break out of the trances the two of you were in.
"Tori Tori!" You giggled at him, giving him a flying hug. "Wanna walk home together when we get back to school?"
"Of course!" Satori smiled, letting you down from the koala-like position you had put yourself in after hugging him.
Satori was my childhood best friend. Our mothers were best friends when they were in school and when my mother was pregnant with me, she moved into the house next to his mother and we became friends from birth.
"Mom's making your favorite tonight," Satori spoke with a sad inflection in his voice as the two of us walked away after saying our goodbyes to the other two.
"Are you telling me you don't like (Fav/Food), Satori?" You gasped with a falsely offended tone. "For shame, bro."
"(Y/N), you know why I'm sad," Satori chided. "You know what tomorrow is, little paradise."
That's right, tomorrow was the anniversary of your mom's passing. She had raised you all alone with only the help of Satori's parents, and when she passed, you were "adopted" by Satori's parents.
"I know, Tori Tori," You mumbled. "I'm glad the school gives us a day off after the finals match or else I would be counted absent and you know how I feel about that."
"You have never been absent in your entire life, little paradise," Satori joked.
"Exactly," I smirked. "And I don't intend on starting now."
"So, Kiyoomi Sakusa, huh~?" Satori teased.
"What about Sakusa-kun?" You asked, guardedly.
"You like him," Satori got straight to the point with his words.
"How would I know if I like him, Tori Tori? I just met him," You nitpicked.
"Paradise, you could see feelings in the way you two were looking at each other from a mile away," Satori put one hand on his hip and the other on my shoulder. "Just, be careful, yeah?"
"I will, Tori Tori," you smiled at him, reaching for a hug which he gladly reciprocated.
~~~The Next Morning~~~
"(Y/N), you got a scholarship for Itachiyama. I know you don't want to leave Satori or Shiratorizawa, but," Sakiko, Satori's mom, spoke, holding said scholarship out towards you as you ate your breakfast. "They have dorms, much like Satori does, but these are only used by those who live out of district which according to what this says is only one other person."
"Oh, okay," you said, feeling a pull towards the school. "I'll go."
"Oh? I was expecting to have to write a refusal letter," Sakiko chuckled. "What's on your mind, little paradise?"
"I... met someone from there," You mumbled with flushed cheeks. "And I'd like to get to know him."
"Ah, young love," Sakiko teased. "Alright, let's call and let them know."
~~~After The Call~~~
"You're all set! You start next month, and I even managed to convince them that your new friend should be the one giving you a tour," Sakiko smirked at you.
What I didn't know at that moment was that that decision would change my life forever.
