Spin the bottle

Summary:

With the school year beginning to start up again, class 2A finds themselves playing a childish game that was made across the world. Even though your love had vanished from your heart when Izuku Midoriya broke up with you to fulfill his duties as the ninth OFA user, the glass bottle will soon be the deciding factor in your fate of love. Though the chances of finding harmony are slim, you might as well take a chance.

So as a brand new year starts, a brand new love, and a brand new heart, you might as well take a spin.

Notes:

Hi, I just wanted to say that I’m writing this for practice. I haven’t written in a while and I decided to write an x reader book because the last time I wrote one was when I was 11. If you have any advice and/or see grammar/ spelling mistakes feel free to correct me.

Chapter 1: Flare

Chapter Text

"Hey, watch it!" a man yelled. You bit your lip and twirled around, now running backward at a somewhat constant speed.

"Do you want me to catch this villain or not, short stuff!" Bakugo yelled at him, gesturing to him in a not-so-friendly manner. You waved your hands as your face heated up intensely wanting to be 10 feet from your partner.

"He didn't mean that sir, he's just in a silly mood right now!" You shouted back at him. Turning your body around, you slapped Bakugo's arm and huffed with annoyance wrapped around your words. "What did I just tell you! Stop being so rude to people, they won't like you," you told him. Though your advice didn't go through, instead, your unwelcoming words went into one ear and out the other. Because as soon as you knew it he blasted off in the air sending a gust of air and ashes your way.

"Follow my lead and don't fuck up!" You bit your lip and launched yourself with solar surge— a technique that took at least a million years to perfect, though in actuality, probably about 6 months— and caught up to Bakugo in no time.

"So what's the game plan Kats? Shoto and Uraraka are on the west side, but from what I gather they won't be here in time. Kirishima, Jirou, and  Mina are handling some other villains. Also, Denki and Tokoyami are dealing with some... other issues right now," you hesitantly said. "With the size and strength of the villain we could easily take them down, but it's still good to have some sort of backup in case something goes wrong."

Bakugo bounced from one building to the next while you landed on the street, sliding past the bystanders and jumping on a rusted Endeavor sign. You pulled the rest of your body up and sprinted on top of the sign with ease. Managing to get a lead you jumped once again on the side of a building and ran on its side. With one last push, you used your quirk, sending you flying in the air where Bakugo was at.

"We don't need those idiots we can knock them out ourselves." He paused for a moment and scrunched his face. "What do you mean by those two are having problems?"

"If you would have brought your earpiece you would've known. Since you're clueless on the matter I might as well catch you up," you said. You sent a blast of energy out your hands hitting the villains in the back. "Well you see, the two of them were stuck playing guard duty with the old ladies at the restaurant. Hawks said something about it being a hero's job to comfort everybody including the elderly."

"What I'm trying to get at is that they're basically being pampered right now by some rich, old ladies," you said. You heard a chuckle escape Bakugo's lips and shook his head.

"Let's just bring this dumbass down quickly," he said with a smirk planted on his face. "Nightlight, you know what to do so hurry up!"

You sucked your teeth and placed your hands in front of you, gathering solar energy from the sun itself. "I told you to stop calling me that!" you yelled. Using the palm of your hand you sent out an ultra flare— a light bomb that could temporarily blind your opponent—and sent it flying towards him.

"Come on Bakugo, make it count!" Maneuvering through the air you used the rest of the energy you got left and pushed him full speed into the villain giving him an extra boost to finally knock him down using AP shot. A ringing noise took over your senses as you began to come down to the ground, making your coordination wonkier. Though it wasn't as loud as last time when Bakugo decided to randomly pick a fight with you, it definitely surpassed all the other times.

A sharp sting erupted from your left ear, almost resembling the feeling of getting burned by Todoroki himself.  Damn Kats, if you wanted to let some anger out you could have just gone to the gym. You pressed your lips into a thin line, squinting at the sight in front of you. Landing on the nearest rooftop you fell on your knees covering your ear as quickly as possible, hoping that the pressure would decrease pain.

"Hey, are the two of you ok?! I heard an explosion. I know Bakugo has a way of... drawing attention but that sounded louder than normal," Todoroki said through the earpiece. Of course they heard it, if Bakugo was competing against the sound of a cannon he would surely surpass it. Wincing at the loudness of his voice you responded as quickly as you could, tapping the piece so he could hear you.

"We're doing better than ever!" you lied.

Todoroki took a slight pause and sighed, "Is that your sarcastic voice?" Awww he knows me so well!

"No."

"Oh, okay... do you need help?"

"No."

"Oh."

"We'll meet you soon, signing off." You took the piece out for a moment so you could attempt to get some sort of silence from your team. Though the "quietness" was short lived as soon as Bakugo came jumping back to you.

"What's your problem?" he asked.

"Well your little trick caused my ears to ring."

"What do you mean?! I wasn't even near you."

"Yeah but still, my ears are ringing," you stated. He rolled his eyes and looked over the edge of the building. With his hand he effortlessly glided his blonde hair, twirling his ends when his finger. Bakugo parted his lips and slumped down to your level and stared right at your eyes.

"Move your hand," he asked, no, he practically ordered you. You slightly moved your hands back as you remained eye contact with him, watching his pupils blow out the closer his hand got to you. His ruby eyes glistened in the light,

"I swear I'm alright it's just a little ringing, that's all." He ignored your comment and grabbed your jaw moving it to the side so he could get a better look. His eyes dim and his brows furrowed with annoyance. He wasn't mad though, he wasn't disappointed either. In your eyes, he looked upset about it, which was shocking to you. Your teeth sank into the side of your inner cheek, don't look at me like. "Don't look at me like that," you voiced your thoughts. His eyes narrowed and squinted at your face. Bakugo proceeded to squeeze your face and smile with a malicious intent.

"Get the hell out of my way next time, before I ‘accidentally’ blow your ass into pieces, alright? You almost ruined my shot with your shitty aiming skills."

A laugh erupted from your chest, making your sides burn a bit. "But you still made the shot, right?"

"Hmph, barley." His eyes trailed off into the distance and scoffed. "Look who's finally here." Bakugo stood up and placed his hands on his hips watching a figure jump into the distance. Turning your attention towards whatever Bakugo was looking at, you felt your heart drop when you realized who was coming your way.

Fuck.

"Guys!" a voice said in the distance. "I'm sorry I'm late, I just got done training with All might," the boy said a little too loud.

"Keep it down nerd! You do realize there's other people here right?" Bakugo said.

"Crap, sorry! I was just worried. I just left downtown to see if any of you guys were there, turns out you weren't. So I had to travel all the way here and, well... I'm here," he opened his arms out. Midoriya looked down at you and a wave of panic washed over him, causing his red-tinted skin to go pale once again.

"Damn it, I should have got here sooner," he exclaimed, kneeling towards you. He held your face in his hands and examined your skin. "Are you hurt?" he whispered.

"No, my ears are just ringing that's all, so can you stop touching me, please?"

"But you don't look too good. You look a bit.. dull." What?!

"Get the hell off me, before I scorch your eyesight!" you snapped. He backed up instantly, placing his hands up.

"Sorry, sorry. I just wanted to see if you were okay. You have a habit of not telling others how you feel so–"

"So you decided to keep touching me when I told you to stop? So you decided to comment on how I look like shit? Make it make sense Midoriya. I understand that you're worried, but realize that me and Bakugo were placed here to handle the villain, not you. That alone should say something." Bakugo turned his head, placing his hand mouth, forcing a cough from his throat. You turned your attention to him and hit his arm once again. "This isn't funny dipshit," you mumbled.

You placed your earpiece back in and pressed the button once again. "Is everyone done?" you said.

"Yep!"

"Absolutely."

"Basically."

"We didn't even do anything what do you mean by–"

"Well then," you cleared your throat. "We should start heading back to the dorms now, see you guys in 15." You took your earpiece off and stared at Midoriya, looking at his face glowing in the warm sun.

"I guess you wasted your hops, bunny. Now hop along before night falls," you said. "Bakugo, come with me, I want you to see something." You turned back and walked facing the sunset. There's something about the horizon that makes you want to sit on a rooftop and relax, watching the night sky come in with ease. Though you enjoy having alone time, you would rather spend it with someone else.

Someone you could partially tolerate.

"What about the two of you, it's dangerous to stay out late," Midoriya said. You turned your head, feeling your lips curve downward. Such an over-thinker, that kid.

"We'll be right behind you, and besides, you know what the deal is with my quirk so I can't even do anything after dark, so why would I risk it?" You whipped your head back and continued to stare at the golden sky. Midoriya mumbled under his breath and sighed turning back around.

"Kacchan," he mumbled. The blonde glanced at him and lifted his eyebrows slightly. "Don't let anything happen to her, you know how she is," he told her. And with that he activated his quirk and leaped into the air, soon disappearing in the distance. Bakugo faced back to you with hesitation and strolled towards you, placing his hands on your shoulder.

"What do you want to show me?" he asked. You laughed under your breath and shrugged.

"The sunset."  He groaned and swung his arms back and forth.

"Are you serious?" He had seen the sun a million times before and will see it a million times again, but something about it just made you want him to stay with you a little longer. Only if it's for a few minutes.

"I'm so serious. Why don't we appreciate what's in front of us you know? Though we see the same thing every day we don't take the time to admire it," you whispered. Turning to him, you pulled his hand away from you and held it to his sides. "We're growing up Bakugo."

"You don't think I know that? We're about to enter our 2nd year in two days, don't you think I figured all this out already?" he said. You grinned ear to ear and laughed some more. Sometimes you couldn't stand him, you couldn't be near him half the time. But the other half made you feel glad to be able to call him a friend.

"I know it's just that, I just wanted to remind you. You're really a fast person you know. One moment you're here, the next... you're gone." He then pulled your body around so you could face him. Bakugo placed his hands on your shoulders and pressed down, causing tension to emerge from your body. You weren't trying to be slick, though it felt like that sometimes. You didn't know what you were doing, why you asked him to join you, why you wanted to be with him alone. If you could find an answer you would have searched through hundreds of books just to get a simple meaning of all this.

But that's not how this works. It's a bit more complicated than one simple answer. You peeped over the building and watched the layers of cars gather together honking in rhythm as the older lady dully walked across the street. The city looked beautiful at this time, in your opinion. It seems like these few minutes are the only peaceful ones, though you couldn't really tell, could you? You barely roam around the city to form your own opinion on the matter.

"What are you trying to achieve?" he whispered, breaking your glance. "This thing between us is getting too complicated. You were just with Deku a few months ago and now you want to switch up. I don't like it." he blurted.

"We're friends Bakugo, I don't want any romance from you. You know what, I should ask the same question to you. You've been acting strange too. You've started staring at me more, touching me more, you even wanted to help me fold my clothes. You never, and I mean never want to touch my clothes. You always said that I have a hobo stench, whatever the hell that means. Which is a weird thing because you smell me sometimes."

"What, I don't smell you?!" he exclaimed.

"I heard you sniff when I hugged you the other day. What I'm trying to say is that you're acting differently." Bakugo looked at you and shut his eyes tightly, fearing for whatever was going to happen next.

"The sun went down," he said, opening his eyes.

"It's time to go."

After a long tiring day, you hopped right in the shower letting the hot, steaming water hit your body. Fortunately, the ringing in your eyes came to a close, so you naturally took advantage of the soft noise around you. Am I acting differently? I'm not the one begging on my knees every second. What does he even mean by that? You grabbed the body washed and squirted it on your washcloth, making sure every inch was covered. The music from your speaker drowned out the negative thoughts and replaced them with more... colorful ones.

You leaned back slowly until you hit the tile wall behind you. You sighed softly and placed your finger on the glass door drawing hearts that will soon drip down your fingertip. Humming a peaceful tone your mind went somewhere else. Midoriya. Am I going too quickly? Was I too rude back there?

You rubbed the soap down your thigh and across your legs making sure you washed off the sweat from your costume. Your mind then traveled back to Bakugo and thought about how he grabbed your face earlier and how he looked at you, how he stared deep into your eyes. Although the water was hot a shiver went down your body sending you chills across your spine.

The vibration of your phone was heard across from you, slightly making your heart skip a beat. You placed your head on the glass door and groaned. You slid the door and walk out meeting the coolness of the air that instantly hit your bare skin. Moving carefully so you wouldn't slip you grabbed your phone and looked at the caller.

Izuku Midoriya.

Crap, perfect timing. You stared as the phone rang and rang debating if you should actually pick up or just ignore it. What if it's important? You bit your lip and answered, closing your eyes so you wouldn't have to look at the muddy reflection of yourself.

"Hello?" he said.

"What do you need?"

"Wanna talk to you so open your door. I've been knocking for the past minute," he said, sounding a tad bit annoyed. You gulped, leaning on the wall you quickly blurted out your answer.

"I don't have any clothes on Midoriya."

You could hear his voice hitch as mumbled something incoherent to your ears. Even though you couldn't see him you could definitely picture his face turning red."I'm taking a shower right now, and even if I wasn't I wouldn't open the door for you. Go back to your room."

"Just... put on a towel, I'll make it quick. Just wanna talk, it'll only take 5 minutes."

"That's 5 minutes I could be in the shower," you replied.

"If I was Kacchan would you do it?" You pinched the bridge of your nose and sucked your teeth, wishing he would stop being so pushy.

"Close your eyes. If you even open your eyes for a second I'll send you back into your mother's womb. Do you understand me?"

"I understand." You hung up the phone as soon as he finished talking and quickly grabbed your towel off the metal rack. You wrapped it around tightly and fling the bathroom door open. The AC blew your towel against your skin, but that was your least concern, what you were truly worried about was what your boyfriend had to say.

Correction, your ex-boyfriend.

You placed your hand on the metal knob and took a deep breath. The door squeaked as you opened it, revealing a green-haired boy who had freckles resembling the stars that are scattered at dawn. "My eyes are closed I swear," he whispered, licking his lips slightly due to the coldness of the air.

He lifted his hand above his waist signaling you to grab it. You reached for his scarred hand and quickly dragged him to your messy bed, sitting him down so you could finally get this conversation started. "Out with it."

"I just think that what you did-" You placed your finger on his mouth and ran into the bathroom grabbing your phone and running back into the room. Turning off the music, you then navigated to the clock app and set a timer for exactly 5 minutes.

"Your time starts now," you said.

"You set a timer, really? Look, what I'm trying to get at is what you did today was rude and uncalled. You know I wasn't trying to invade your personal space, I wanted to see if you were okay. I care about you, I'll always care about you, even if you hate me with all of your guts. I'll be right at your doorstep if you need me."

A giggle escaped at your lips, is he serious? "You look desperate, Midoriya. Desperation isn't a good look. If you want someone that can fulfill what you're looking for then go ask the general studies students. I believe that a handful of them have a thing for you," you said, nudging his shoulders.

"You're not listening! This isn't about our previous relationship, this is about maintaining our friendship. I don't want you to ignore me, I still miss you. I want you to still be at my side as a friend. Is that wrong of me to ask?"

"You don't understand. Why did I even let you in my room? Midoriya look, it's late at night I'm tired you're probably tired, let's just end this," you said.

"What don't I understand? Explain, I want an explanation of what I do and don't understand so I can work on how to get us back on track," he demanded.

"You tell me how you can't be with me and how things can't work out, but then a week later you're seen with other girls!" you yelled. "I understand that you have a duty as the ninth user of OFA, but for you to make such a bullshit lie just to get with some other girl is stupid, Midoriya, it's completely stupid. If you would've told me that you lost feeling for me then I would've been alright, sure it might've hurt a bit but I would've moved on, but for you to do that, is the entire reason I'm acting the way I am."

You clenched your towel, looking down at him in disgust. The alarm on your phone cut the tension in the room and rang with power. "Get out of my room Midoriya," you spat. You spun on your heel and left the room, entering the bathroom. The door slammed behind you leaving Midoriya by himself in the dark, cold room.

All by himself.

Now that he thought of it, this discussion should have been on the phone, maybe then you would have listened to him. He opened his eyes and placed his head on his hands, glancing around your dark dorm room.

"Back to the drawing board," he said to himself.
