Work Text:
Ej pulled Ricky to the side as they walked back to their cabin. "Look, I don't know what game you're pulling with Gina but she's not interested."
Ricky was taken aback but continued walking nonetheless. "I'm not pulling anything, Ej."
Ej looked around the campgrounds confused, then began jogging to catch up to Ricky. "Then what was that earlier?"
"Earlier?…" Ricky recalled all of his interactions with Gina that day. "Oh, we were just rehearsing, dude." He playfully shoved Ej's chest.
"Rehearsing?" Ej scanned him with narrow eyes. "I don't buy it."
Ricky stopped in his tracks to look at Ej. "Gina and I are just friends." He spoke with a straight face.
Ej also turned to him as he stopped walking. "It didn't look that way earlier."
Ricky sighed. "Tell me, Ej. What did it look like?"
Silence filled the air for a few moments as Ej racked through his brain for an answer. "Are you interested in Gina?" He asked instead.
"Interested in Gina?" Ricky repeated his words. "To be honest with you, yeah I am interested in her." He avoided eye contact as he scratched the back of his neck. "Anyone would be if they really got to know her."
Ej felt his anger flare. "I knew it!" He jabbed Ricky in the chest with his finger.
Ricky held his hands up in a sort of surrender. "But-"
" 'But' ?" Ej cut him, confused. He dropped his hand back to the side.
Ricky slowly lowered his arms. "Gina and I are in a really good place; a place we haven't been in for a really long time…" A bittersweet smile appeared on his face as he looked over toward the sunset. "She's the happiest I have ever seen her… I wouldn't do anything to jeopardize that." He continued his walk toward their cabin, leaving Ej behind to soak in his words.
