Typical boring afternoon. Yubin was sitting by her desk, with her gaze focused on her laptop screen. She was trying to do some work, even though she still has some time till the deadline, but as always she wanted to have this done before the end. She yawn, stretching herself a bit. Her back hurts, because of sitting few hour in one place. Suddenly her phone lighted up. Incoming call. She smiled a bit seeing the name of the person who called her.
“Yeah?” she said answering the call
“Yo, are you coming to the festival tonight?” the woman voice on the other side said
“I don’t know Yoohyeon, I still have to finish my work” Yubin said unsure
“Come on Yubs, you need a break” Yoohyeon said
Yubin giggled. She was already convinced by the other woman, but sometimes she couldn’t understand why so easily she give up.
“Fine, meet me at 8pm, you know where” Yubin said
“Alright, see you later” the other woman hang up
Yubin sighed and put her phone on the desk. She totally forgot about the festival today, even if it was one of the biggest in the city, in this time of year. She didn’t has a plan to go, but as always she have Yoohyeon to remind her of this type of things. Lately she spending a lot of time on work, but Yoohyeon is always there to remind her of breaks, eating properly, rest and not spending all night by the computer, even if they don’t live together. And she was more than glad for that. When she saw on the computer clock that the 8pm is near, she stood up and went to get ready to leave. It didn’t took her long and she left her flat, locking the door. She was walking along the sidewalk, leading her steps to the place where she will meet with Yoohyeon. Surprisingly, their favorite spot was near to the place where the festival was. She was near and she already could see a familiar silhouette sitting on the bench.
“Yo” she said standing in front of the sitting woman
As soon as Yoohyeon heard a familiar voice she raises her gaze from the phone and looked at Yubin. Even if the evening was a bit cold, Yubin cold feel how warm was the smile of the other woman. Then both of them headed towards the center of the festival. On the both sides there was a lot of different types of stands. Food stands, games, stands where you can buy something related with the festival and all of this was decorated by different types of light and other colorful ornaments. They both was looking around, approaching some stands, Yoohyeon even decided to try and play one of the games. Yubin was standing behind her and cheering her goofy nature. Surprisingly Yoohyeon won a plushy, a small panda plushy and she gave it to Yubin.
“Yubin look, fruits in chocolate” Yoohyeon said pulling the other woman by the sleeve, to come closer to the stand
“Oh, wow, it’s been long time since I ate this” Yubin commented
“You want some? On me of course! I think I will take the strawberries” Yoohyeon said smiling
“Yeah, you can take strawberries for me too” the other woman said
And with the food, they went further through the festival. They were walking in silent, enjoying their food.
“Oh, they will be shooting fireworks soon” Yubin commented when she saw few people walking with the fireworks in their hands.
“I know one place from where it will be amazing view on the fireworks” Yoohyeon said
“Lead the way then” the other woman giggled
“Alright, but can we pop in the convenient store nearby for a moment?”
“Sure”
And they did. At the end of the festival, there was a small convenience store, where Yoohyeon quickly went in. Few minutes later, Yubin saw how the woman left the place with a drinks in her hands and a pack of cigarettes. When she stood next to Yubin, she gave her one of the bottle
“Didn’t you said you want to drop this shit?” Yubin commented with a quiet laugh
“Shut up” Yoohyeon laughed hitting the girl on arm
They went further, Yoohyeon was leading the way. They went up the stairs, to some kind of viewpoint. Yoohyeon was right, it was a great location to watch the fireworks, when they went closer to the railing and looked down, they could see the whole festival place.
“You are right, it’s a perfect spot” Yubin said
“See? Sometimes I know things, but there is still few minutes until the fireworks” Yoohyeon said looking at the clock on her phone
Then Yubin saw how Yoohyeon is taking out one of the cigarettes and lighter from her pocket. She didn’t mind it. Of course she wish that her best friend stop smoking, but she knows she is not the one to decide about it. After a moment she saw a smoke leaving Yoohyeon mouth.
“Hey Yubin?” Yoohyeon started, leaning on the railing
“Yeah?”
“Did you ever felt like you really want to say something, but you are too scared to do this?”
Yubin looked at her friend. Yoohyeon was looking down at the festival, clearly she didn’t want to meet Yubin gaze now.
“Yes, many times” Yubin answered
“And what did you do at the end?”
“I just…tell what I have on mind, because I think it’s worth to try and just be honest” Yubin answered
“Yeah, you might be right…” Yoohyeon said
Something was clearly bothering her, Yubin could feel that. But it wasn’t a first time, lately Yoohyeon was acting really strange. She asked her few times if everything is okay, but Yoohyeon was simply answering ‘yes’ with a soft smile on her face.
“Yoohyeon, something is bothering you, right?” Yubin said
“What? Nah, everything is fine” Yoohyeon laughed
“You know I can see you are acting a bit strange lately?”
Silent. Yoohyeon puffed on the cigarette and released a smoke cloud.
“You are the one who is bothering me” Yoohyeon said with a laugh
“What you mean?” Yubin asked a little surprised
“Oh, come on Yubs, what do you think I mean?…I mean I like you more than just a friend, you know? And this is bothering me…” the woman said
‘It was a stupid question’ Yubin thought. She exactly knew what the woman means, because she could feel that. The way the other woman care about her so much and the time she spending with Yubin, sometimes they even joking that Yoohyeon is spending more time in her place than in her own home. But it wasn’t surprising for Yubin, on contrary she felt the same way, but as Yoohyeon said, she was too scared to tell her about it. She wanted to, her mind was always coming back to the thoughts that maybe soon, she will tell her friend her true feeling, but it always scared her to death. The thoughts of losing the other woman forever. She sighed and looked at the taller girl, she was still not looking at Yubin, her gaze was at the festival below them. Yubin came a little closer to her
“Yoohyeon” Yubin said taking the cigarette from the woman
“Yeah?” the woman finally looked at her
Then Yubin without any hesitation closed the gap between them, placing a gentle kiss on Yoohyeon lips. Totally not expected, but…it was saying more than any words. The feeling they were hiding from each other, finally was revealed. They were ready to risk. When they broke the kiss, suddenly they heard a loud sound of the fireworks. The sky lighted up in a lot of different colors, arranging in different shapes.
“You smell like cigarettes” Yubin said, at which Yoohyeon laughed out loud
“Sorry, sorry” she said hugging the shorter woman
They were standing here in embrace, looking at the colorful fireworks. Nothing else matter now, only this moment. Moment in which they finally told each other about their feelings, after long time of hiding. Moment when the new beginning was waiting for them.
