Work Text:

Jimin’s first day on set was nerve wracking, as it was his first time doing a big production and he still felt like a fish out of water. He moved around carefully, trying not to get in anyone’s way — he met a lot of the staff during the dry reads, along with his co-star, but he was still very nervous.

Having his very first job be a romance felt intimidating, especially given the content of this particular romance.

Min Yoongi was lovely to work with, and reached out to Jimin before shooting even began to make sure he was comfortable, and he maintained that energy on set to the point that Jimin often was seeking the older out during times when he wasn’t needed for scenes, though he was playing the protagonist so it wasn’t very often that Jimin wasn’t needed for shooting.

They’ve been shooting for about a week, and Jimin knows they put off the love scenes for Jimin’s benefit — so he could get a bit more comfortable, because he would be kissing a man and pretending to have hopefully realistic looking sex with him.

However, considering Jimin spends lot of his free time kissing men and having actual, real sex with them, he wasn’t as nervous as everyone assumed he was.

Only, Yoongi is quite handsome and if he’s entirely honest with himself, he has developed a bit of a crush on the man playing his lover. He’s very aware that Yoongi is straight, but whenever their characters are in a scene together, he’s such a talented actor that it almost makes Jimin forget that he’s just pretending.

It’s doing a number on his head, and he’s sure trying to squeeze in as much time with Yoongi as possible isn’t helping the crush remain undetected.

But he always smiles these sweet, kind smiles at Jimin. His eyes go warm and he welcomes Jimin so openly whenever given the chance. He’s just a lovely person, and Jimin hopes that when they’re done filming they can remain at least a bit close because he already knows he’s sure to miss him.

“Hyung,” he greets, bumping his shoulder into Yoongi’s as he strides closer, “when did you get here?”

“Only a bit ago,” Yoongi replies, waving his script, “I was running over the lines a bit before we start.”

“Oh,” Jimin perks up, ready to cling to Yoongi as much as he can, “can I join you?”

Yoongi seems to hesitate, and when Jimin looks at the number on his page he thinks he knows why — Page 87.

Page 87 is their first kissing scene, and when Jimin thinks even harder about it, he knows that in that scene there are very little lines to run through at all because it’s a bit of a heated exchange from the 86 pages of build up to the moment.

“If you want to,” Yoongi smiles politely at him, and he should take the hint that it’s probably not the time to budge in.

“You were just getting the feel for it, right?” Jimin asks, offering a smile, “because it’s… it needs to be believable, so you can’t just jump right into the middle of it cold, right?”

Yoongi nods, the corner of his lip turning up, “exactly, actually — I know there’s not much said in the scene, but the vibe of it all matters more than what could be said.”

“So, if we practiced,” Jimin begins, though the way Yoongi is looking at him makes him feel more shy than he usually is around him, “would we just…”

“We have to kiss in the scene, Jimin-ah,” Yoongi murmurs, like he’s breaking the news to Jimin for the first time — like Jimin hadn’t agreed to the project after reading the script and seeing the sex scenes beforehand.

“Yoongi hyung, you’ve filmed romance movies before, right?” Jimin asks, now stood outside the set — most of the film takes place outside, the house they’re shooting in is only for a few scenes. “I don’t want to come off as awkward. My character isn’t awkward.”

“No, he’s quite bold,” Yoongi laughs, looking off to the distance rather than looking at Jimin, “we could practice it, just the two of us. It will get your nerves out before the camera is rolling.”

Jimin thinks back to the scene in question — the scene where they’re laying together outside, and Yoongi’s character traces his lips with the tip of his finger and kisses him passionately, though with obvious regret. Of how when he pulls away, Jimin’s character is meant to reach between the man’s legs and grab him, begging to be kissed some more.

With a flush on his cheeks, Jimin nods and lets Yoongi guide them somewhere private.

They make their way to a more secluded area where they each sit below a tree — the staff is working in the distance and Jimin knows they don’t have much time but the way his heart is lodged in his throat is going to make practicing this scene all the more difficult.

“Try not to be so nervous,” Yoongi murmurs, leaning his shoulder against Jimin’s, “I know you’ve never had an on screen kiss, and this movie is making you do even more than that, but you know it’s just all pretend.”

Jimin nods, though Yoongi’s words don’t comfort him even a bit.

With a smile, Yoongi adds, “you do need to make it look real, though.”

Jimin nods again, turning to look up at the older man, “I don’t want to do anything that’s– that’s not normally done. I don’t know how these are shot—”

“We’ll be kissing,” Yoongi cuts him off, “that much will be real.”

“When you say kissing,” Jimin bites into his bottom lip, feeling shy, “you mean truly kissing?”

Yoongi’s smile is sweet, though it makes Jimin feel immature and stupid, “yes, truly kissing. Tongue in mouth, wandering hands kind of kissing.”

Breath caught in his throat, Jimin tries to smile back but Yoongi looks so handsome backlit by the sun and with his longer hair slicked out of his eyes — he’s already been through hair and makeup, and he looks so intimidatingly attractive that Jimin is terrified of miss-stepping.

Yoongi’s hand reaches towards his face and gently cups his jaw, drawing him nearer and ducking his own head down as he goes. Against his lips, Yoongi murmurs, “let’s just break the ice.”

And then they’re kissing, and Jimin feels inexperienced and lame — Yoongi doesn’t sweep his tongue into his mouth like they’re expected to do in the scene, but he does part his lips and draw Jimin’s bottom one in between both of his, sucking lightly before slotting them together once more.

Jimin can feel his blood rushing in his ears, but he tries to remain calm and pliant, letting himself be kissed rather than being an active participant.

“Haru,” Yoongi whispers — Jimin’s character name, like a reminder that this is a little run through for a scene. Then, softer and pulling away, “we can’t.”

And Jimin may have just been kissed by Min Yoongi which is a big fucking deal, but he’s also a professional actor and he is not going to let a crush make him bomb this role.

So when Yoongi pulls away, he leans back in with a hand caught in the front of his lazily buttoned shirt, tugging the older man back to kiss him again though he’s more urgent now, taking more of a lead than the first time. Yoongi’s lips part under his, a soft sound breathed right into his mouth, and Jimin puts all of that to the back of his mind.

They run through the scene until Jimin is flushing and can feel his heart hammering too quickly in his chest, and when the director finds them he praises them both on their commitment.

Yoongi looks at him differently after that, though.

———

Jimin’s never been to a red carpet, and he didn’t think this would be the movie to get him standing on one. It had been an adaptation from a book, but it was more of a lowkey project. But then the masses decided that it was actually good, and now, six months after filming has wrapped, Jimin finds himself standing on the red carpet with Min Yoongi again.

They’ve kept in touch, but he’s only seen him in person a handful of times since they’d finished filming — which is fine, because Yoongi is busy, and reportedly, dating an ex-idol gone solo. She’s quite pretty, and Jimin certainly didn’t burn with jealousy when he saw the sneakily taken photos of the two of them both leaving her company’s studio at nearly four in the morning.

Now, he stands beside Jimin and guides him down the carpet and poses in each of the photos with him and his hand is all but glued to Jimin’s back.

He’d missed Yoongi, throughout these last few months. They had bonded so much while filming and then one day it’s all gone and he doesn’t get to kiss the man desperately or crawl onto his lap and beg into his mouth.

Jimin shakes his head to rid those thoughts — he’s been getting better about not thinking of him like that. It was just a job, after all.

They sit together at the same little table with the director of the movie and some of the cast, but Yoongi keeps his arm slung over Jimin’s chair throughout the entire evening.

When his award comes up, Jimin accidentally reaches for Yoongi out of pure nerves — they list all the nominees and a little snippet plays of each of the films on the big screens on either side of the stage as the actor’s name flashes alongside it and Yoongi clasps Jimin’s hand in his under the table and turns to face him, eyes smiling.

He leans his head in close, pressing his forehead to Jimin’s temple as the music swells and everyone grows antsy, but Yoongi murmurs, “you have your speech ready, don’t you?”

Jimin feels his heart jump and he shakes his head, whispering back, “I didn’t write anything.”

And then Jimin wins best male lead and his name is said and he has to be pulled from his seat by Yoongi’s tender hands helping him up — he pulls him into a soft hug, sways them back and forth and kisses his cheek, telling Jimin, “told you so.”

Jimin thanks Yoongi first, and again, last, in his impromptu speech, jumbling over his words as he tries not to cry.

———

The internet has dropped the rumor of Yoongi dating the woman in exchange for a more wild one — Min Yoongi, the straight, well known actor and music producer, is being questioned about dating Park Jimin, a guy he pretended to be in love with for a movie.

Yoongi texts him two days after the award show, asking if he’s seen what the internet is saying.

He chews on his lips and replies, yeah, it’s crazy, hyung.

Yoongi just sends him, we should get dinner and catch up, Jiminie.

And so his evening plans change from doing absolutely nothing in his home to getting ready as fast as possible for dinner at a fancy restaurant with Yoongi.

Their table is on the rooftop, and they’re the only ones — it’s so pretty outside, warm and summery and Jimin wonders why Yoongi would bring him to a place that looks this romantic?

“What made you want to get together again, hyung?” Jimin asks, sitting beside Yoongi rather than next to him — it’s how the chairs were arranged for them to sit, their backs along a brick wall with pretty, dangling plants, outlooking the city.

Yoongi sips on his wine and turns to look at Jimin, “I’ve been meaning to ask, but I’ve been a bit busy. I didn’t mean for time to get this away from me, though, so I’m sorry.”

Jimin shakes his head, though it pleases him immensely to know Yoongi’s been thinking of him, “it’s alright. You have so much to do.”

Yoongi nods, “have you heard the new Heize song?”

Jimin shakes his head, though Yoongi just nods like he expected as much.

“You should give it a listen, that thing kept me up for weeks straight,” he laughs, taking another sip of his wine.

Realization dawns on Jimin then, and he feels supremely stupid.

“You were making a song with her?” He asks.

Yoongi nods, “I produced it, yeah. Went back to my roots for a bit since I was just off our movie.”

“So then, the dating rumors were just the usual tabloid bullshit?” Jimin asks, feeling a strange relief with this new knowledge.

Yoongi cocks an eyebrow, “isn’t it always tabloid bullshit?”

The tabloids think we’re dating, though.

But Jimin just shrugs and nods, “guess so.”

“I must admit, I was pretty surprised they all thought we were together,” Yoongi pushes on, and Jimin almost wishes he would just change the subject. “Considering our ages.”

“I thought it was weird considering you’re straight,” Jimin says without really meaning to, though Yoongi looks more confused than offended.

“Did you hear that from a tabloid?” Yoongi asks, laughing, “let me know who's spreading that lie so I can sue them next.”

Frozen, Jimin is unsure how to proceed — Yoongi has always been straight? He’s always been seen with women?

His face must say it all, because Yoongi starts laughing even harder.

“Park Jimin, do you think I would run through a kissing scene with you for twenty minutes if—”

“You were helping!” Jimin interrupts, turning to face Yoongi better, “you were being nice!”

“And selfish,” he mutters, looking down at the table rather than Jimin’s eyes, “you would have been fine without the practice. I just— I thought maybe you would— that it would make you feel something for me, more than platonic. It was wrong of me, really.”

“What are you saying,” Jimin murmurs, feeling hope rising in his chest — he’s pretty sure that Yoongi just admitted—

“I wanted to kiss you,” Yoongi sighs, and Jimin finds himself scooting closer right away, plastering himself to Yoongi’s side.

“Because you aren’t into women?” Jimin asks, “and you are into… me?”

“I like women too,” Yoongi shrugs, “but you— I don’t know, I thought it was because we were working so closely, but then I hadn’t seen you in so long and I still felt it—”

Jimin leans in all the way and cuts off Yoongi’s speech with his lips, both of his hands raising up to cup either side of his neck as he kisses him for the first time in months.

Yoongi’s hands find his waist and hold him tight and it feels nothing like when they were filming because no one is watching their every move and he’s allowed to moan when Yoongi’s tongue slides into his mouth and again when he’s tugged into his lap to be kissed properly until the wait staff walks in on them connected at the lips and promptly drops their appetizers, decidedly separating them and making Jimin’s cheeks flush a bright, embarrassed red.

He leaves the restaurant that night with Yoongi dragging him by the hand to his car and Jimin’s almost positive that there were a few cameras hiding along the way — he just doesn’t really give a shit, now that he’s allowed to kiss Yoongi whenever he wants.
