Cozy Company

Summary:

It was a little odd how you could find his presence so comforting

Notes:

I wrote this when I couldn't sleep

Work Text:

You couldn't recall a time when you had seen your consort asleep. Yet there he was, Mohg, the Lord of Blood, sitting on his throne sound asleep like a newborn babe. Your footsteps had faltered when you discovered the Omen, your eyes wide with mild surprise. You quickly cast your gaze around the room, noting that no one was in the audience chamber this evening. You thought it a little peculiar. He must have dozed off...

You decided to quietly approach your Lord, mindful of your footfalls as you slowly crept closer. He didn't stir once, eye closed and cheek leaning against his closed fist to keep his head propped up. You noticed his trident off to the side, laying just in his reach should the sudden need for a weapon arise. You stopped at the foot of the throne, peering up at the towering Omen. He was tall, even while seated he towered over your smaller stature. He was still sleeping, breathing light and barely a flutter from his chest. It was a little eerie how still he was, like he was cast from stone. You gently cleared your throat, tongue darting out to lick your dry lips before you spoke.

"My lord" you softly called.

He didn't stir.

"Mohg" you tried again, hand hesitantly reaching out before you poked his arm.

Still, he did not stir.

You chewed on your lip in thought. There was a thought tickling the back of your mind and no matter how many times you tried to shake it away it kept coming back like the annoying buzz of a fly. Your restless slumber was what caused you to seek him out and now that you found him asleep…You stared at Mohg and audibly gulped. You prayed he wasn't going to skewer you with that trident.

You cast your gaze around the room once more, confirming that there really was no one else around before you moved. You were cautious as you hauled yourself up onto the throne to climb into Mohg's lap. You were shocked by how easy it seemed as you nestled yourself in your Lord's lap, your legs dangling over his thigh as you leaned your side against his chest. You could feel warmth radiating off his body, causing you to press closer to him and seek it out. You lay your head against his chest as you took a deep breath, the familiar scent of blood tickling your nose with every deep inhale. It was a little odd how you could be so comfortable around the smell. You pressed your ear against his chest, soft material pressing against your face as you listened for his heartbeat. You let your eyes slip close for a brief moment, the strong and steady rhythm of his heartbeat almost like a lullaby, tempting you into a deep slumber. You could feel the weariness creep into your bones and you were dangerously close to succumbing to the lull of dreams.

You were startled awake when Mohg finally stirred, his body shifting underneath you. Your eyes shot open as you squeaked loudly, hands tangling in his robes and gripping tight. You felt goosebumps prickle your skin when you felt his hand on your side, arm wrapping around your torso as you were tugged closer to his body. You could feel his hot breath against your face, his voice almost like a hiss in your ear when he spoke.

"What a peculiar creature" Mohg mused.

You could feel the tips of your ears burning with an intense heat as you mustered up the courage to finally poke your head out and look up at your Lord. His golden eye was open and fixated on you, his stare piercing you down to the very depths of your soul. Your throat was dry and your tongue felt like it was made of lead as you swallowed around the small lump in your throat. You had no idea how you were going to explain this...

The long, drawn-out silence was slowly getting to you and it felt like it was going to drive you insane as Mohg continued to openly stare at you. You were the one to break the silence, your voice slightly trembling.

"I thought you were asleep" you said, eyes darting around nervously.

You tried not to look at his face but your gaze kept being drawn back to his lone, piercing eye. You shifted uncomfortably under his gaze, flinching when you felt talons pressing through the thin material of your clothes. You realised quickly that no matter which way you tried to twist, you were trapped against him and there was no room for escape. You almost jumped out of your own skin when you felt Mohg's chest rumble with a soft hum, the vibrations dancing underneath your hands and making the tips of your fingers tingle.

"I was" Mohg replied, answering your previous statement. "Until you crawled into my lap."

Your face erupted with heat, fingers pulling his robes taut as you ducked your head in shame. You buried your face against his chest, a small whine in your voice as embarrassment ate away at your skin.

"I'm sorry" you lamented; voice muffled into his chest.

Amusement sparkled in the depths of his golden gaze, a light chuckle tickling the back of his throat at your flustered state. He raised his hand, fingers dancing along your spine and making you shiver as he gently pat your back. He idly curled a lock of your hair around his finger, twisting the strand as you continued to sulk.

"Why did you seek me?" Mohg inquired.

Oh right...the real reason that you were in this situation in the first place. You let out a small sigh, the puff of air blowing a few strands of hair off your flaming cheeks. You risked turning your head to the side and sneaking a peak up at the Lord of Blood.

"I was lonely" you mumbled. "I desired your company. I…the nightmares came back."

Your admission did little to ease the heat lingering in your body as your stomach twisted and shifted like waves in a raging storm. You could hear your heart drumming loudly in your ears in the silence that followed, your pulse fluttering wildly beneath your skin. Mohg was completely silent as he regarded you, as if he were turning something over in his mind. After another long moment of suffering in silence, he stirred once more. He pushed against your back, ushering you closer into the warmth he provided. Your heart continued to run like a startled rabbit as Mohg wrapped a protective arm around your waist, keeping your smaller frame against his large stature.

"If my company is what you desire…then you shall have it" Mohg said, his warm breath making every hair on the nape of your neck stand up.

You were a little surprised at how apathetic Mohg was toward the situation, not even a single ounce of irritation. It actually made you giggle when you realised how much you could actually get away with around him because Mohg would never deny you anything. You couldn't help the small smile that tugged at your lips, the muscles in your body slowly starting to relax. You started to make yourself comfortable once more.

"Maybe I'm not the only peculiar creature" you commented, burying your head against his chest so you could listen to his heartbeat again.

Mohg hummed in response, eye slipping close once more. "Do tell, little one. I do so love bedtime stories."
