Work Text:
“This isn’t what I wanted.” Following Mycroft’s gesture, Greg assumed that ‘this’ meant the blue ocean, white beach and a perfectly comfortable sun lounger in the shade of some palmtrees. Together with Anthea he had been able to plan the perfect vacation for him and Mycroft. She made sure Mycroft could be spared at the office and that her boss wouldn’t be bothered during his two weeks away. Greg booked the perfect place for them both. Their little house offered all the amenities and luxuries they could wish for. They even had this secluded beach bordering their lodgings. Their house, however private, was still part of a larger vacation club so they also had a choice of activities and Greg planned to make the most of those.
“No, probably not, but it’s what you needed My.” After a gentle prod, Mycroft scooted aside a bit and made room for Greg to sit next to him on the lounger. “Besides, it’s also what I needed.”
Mycroft took a deep breath in and out before he answered. “As always I will have to admit that you are correct.”
“You’re making it sound like that’s a bad thing.” Greg said with mock indignation.
“It’s not a bad thing, it just makes me realize how well you know me and how much you care for me.” The fact that Mycroft’s statement came instantly did something to Greg. Of course he cared for his partner, that was so obvious it didn’t need saying. The thing was, Mycroft still seemed surprised by his care. It was like he couldn’t believe someone would organise some time away for him. While Mycroft clearly appreciated the thought and work he had put into planning this vacation, Greg hoped that one day his partner wouldn’t be baffled by it anymore.
Greg couldn’t resist and planted a quick kiss on Mycroft’s brow before coming to lay next to his partner. It took some wriggling to fit both on the sun lounger, but Greg was happy to lay himself half on top of the other man. Laying his head on Mycroft’s shoulder he started playing with the buttons of Mycroft’s shirt. After some minutes he continued the conversation. “You deserve someone to care for you My. I’m glad I get to do it.”
“Even when I’m not taking care of myself?” Yes, mister Holmes, that is the crux of the matter. Greg was glad Mycroft recognized that that might be a problem sometimes. Although it also saddened him seeing that Mycroft realized that his behavior was self-destructive but didn’t do anything about it. That he couldn’t change his habits, got stuck in the same patterns over and over again.
“Especially when you aren’t taking care of yourself.” Greg planted a light kiss on the skin within reach. He couldn’t stop after just one kiss, so he dusted Mycroft’s chin with featherlight kisses to emphasize his message. Breathing in the scent of sunscreen and something distinctly Mycroft, he felt at home. And Greg wanted to protect that cost what cost. “I’ll keep taking care of you, love. As long as you want me, I’ll keep doing it. Doen’t matter if it’s because of work, Sherlock or your own stubbornness. When you’re stressed because of it all I’ll be there to help you relax.”
“You truly are a marvel, Gregory.” Mycroft said with a happy sigh.
“So, you’re not mad at me anymore for disrupting your work?” To say Mycroft had been mad the day before, was an understatement. He had been forced to take leave and hand in his electronics to a very stern looking Anthea. He was told to pack only an evening before the flight and had had no control over the destination whatsoever. Luckily for Greg, Anthea took the brunt of it all and he just had to deal with a grumpy Mycroft while packing. Once his partner had known where they were going, his mood had improved significantly.
Greg was sure that Mycroft had the whole vacation planned out, the moment he learned they were going to Providenciales. The pout he had maintained during the flight, the transfer, the changing of clothes, the applying of sunscreen and up until five minutes ago, was just a facade. It was true Mycroft hadn’t asked for a vacation on the Turks and Caicos Islands, but that didn’t mean he wouldn’t take the fullest out of the forced time away.
After some time just lying together, Mycroft took up the thread of conversation. “I won’t be mad at you anymore, if you go to Osprey Rock with me tomorrow.” The puppy eyes Mycroft gave him were impressive. Though Greg would go anywhere with his love, with or without a pleading look.
“Sure love, I’ll come. What’s there to see?” Greg was up for any kind of activity. He preferred a nice mix of relaxing and the more active stuff. So some sightseeing would be really nice after the day of traveling and just relaxing on the beach they had had today.
“Pirates cave.” came the immediate reply.
Not what he expected, but he supposed it would be neat to see. “Will we go looking for lost treasures then?” Greg jokingly asked.
“No, that won’t be necessary since I’ve already found you.”
