Chapter 1: I Found You

Chapter Text

He didn’t know what happened.

Techno was a pirate. One of the most feared and well-known ones on the sea. He had a crew that was loyal to him and would fight with their lives for him, as he would for them.

He had his right-hand man, Phil, who was basically the man who had raised him as a child. Techno, at first, was stubbornly against Phil being involved in his crew. But after the avian had shown himself to be more than capable of taking on a group of attackers by himself, he had no choice but to yield.

The man was absolutely terrifying on the field, that much Techno could admit. He was always called the soft-hearted one of the crew cause he couldn't help but always want to give a chance to everyone they came across, if they showed promise. But that was it, there were no second chances. If they betrayed that trust offered to them on a silver plate, they would most likely end up floating aimlessly in the cold, freezing water. One does not mess with Philza Minecraft.

It wasn't as though Techno had always had Phil as his right-hand man. That title belonged to his twin brother, Wilbur Soot. The two looked nothing like each other at first glance, but Phil would always say they looked identical. And it wasn't like it was completely false. Techno and Wilbur, though they weren't biologically related, looked so alike as kids, Phil often had problems telling them apart. (At least, until Techno dyed his hair pink and let it grow out)

While Phil and Techno were fighters, Wilbur never liked to get his hands dirty. That wasn't to say that he was a pacifist, because that would be a complete and utter lie. The man was ruthless when he wanted to be, words striking wounds deeper than Techno's blade ever could. The man looked far too much like a human than the siren he actually was, and that always worked in his favour, lulling people into a false sense of security before tricking them into deals that would leave them broken in the end.

The man loved the seas and always wanted to travel the world. He had the soul of an adventurer and wouldn't stop his journeys, even if he was offered all the gold in the world. He was just like Techno and Phil, in that way. They were a family of explorers, men who loved the thrill of fights and the shine of stolen treasure.

But then Techno found Tommy.

He had never meant to find the child, but he did. He still remembered the day, the vibrant memory echoing through his head.

 .

.

.

"Wilbur!" Techno shouted roaming around the edge of port, looking for signs of curly brown hair and obnoxious laughter.

He had been searching for the man for a while, after the brunette had gone off into the market to see if he could find anything. He should have never trusted Wilbur and let Phil convince him, the man had never managed to stay on task for anything in his life.

In the corner of his eyes, he could see a group of men gather in a small crowd. They would look normal if it wasn't for the way they had weapons openly dangling off the belt of their clothes. Techno could tell they were probably pirates as well, most likely also wandering to find something in the market. The town was well-known for being rather open to pirates and the like, offering them deals rather than closing the doors in their faces.

That was what Techno thought as he looked away from the scene, only for his attention to be drawn towards a giggle. A giggle that could only be made by a child-

No, not a child. A baby .

He jerked his head back towards the group of men, to find one of the taller men holding an infant child by the leg upside down. He was holding them away, as though they were a parasite (as though it weren't a newborn who didn't have a clue what situation the had gotten themself into)

He began to walk towards them, ears titling up to eavesdrop on their conversation.

"-and I found this thing, instead of any loot or valuable shit," the man who was holding the baby spat out, looking at the child with disgust.

The baby continued to look at him with teary eyed as though they were a second away from bursting into tears.

"What a waste, " another man sighed, glaring at the infant, "This thing would cost us more than it's worth,"

"Then get rid of it, " said the third man, not even sparing a glance to the dangling baby, "It's a waste of space, and it's not like we can return it. Just drop it off into the water and we can move on,"

The first man looked relieved at those words, "Oh thank god, I can't stand-"

The baby began to scream at the top of their lungs, tears rolling off their face in fat clumps as their face flushed an ugly shade of red.

"Fucking hell-" the second mean swore, backing away from them, "Throw it away already!"

"If you won't do it quickly," the third man added, reaching for the child, "I'll do it myself-"

He didn't get to finish his sentence before a knife was lodged into his head.

It wasn't long before Techno managed to kill the other two men, their blood spilt in broad daylight before Techno caught the baby in his hands, unsure of what to do.

He had never dealt with a crying child before. That was usually Phil's thing (sometimes, Wilbur would deal with them too) since he seemed to have the curious ability to calm a child in a matter of seconds. But Techno? He didn't have a clue on how to even properly hold a baby.

Still, he tried to imitate the way he had seen Phil carry children and cradled the infant to rest their head on his shoulder. And to his surprise, it worked. Their loud wailing trickled down to soft sniffles, clinging onto his red cape that hid his identity.

Of course, this was the exact moment Wilbur came across the scene, raising an eyebrow at the dead bodies across the floor before he nearly fell off the port in his shock as he spotted the baby resting on Techno's shoulder. (Techno quietly pulled them closer, pulling the cloak over them. The weather was freezing)

"Techno, why the fu-" he pauses, takes a glance at the baby, before thinking better of it, "...why on the earth do you have a baby?"

Techno shrugs, "These guys wanted to kill them,"

The other let out a low whistle, "Well then, that mystery is solved. But still, you hate kids,”

Tecno narrowed his eyes, cradling the head carefully as he turned to fully face his twin, “Yes , and?”

“Why are you clutching that one like it's the most precious treasure you've found?" Wilbur commented, a twinkle of amusement in his eyes.

Maybe that was when Techno realised he had gotten attached.
