Work Text:
“Sup short stack.” Colin said as you entered your apartment, he was in his usual spot on your couch. In nothing but a pair of boxers with his guitar sitting in his lap.
“Not in the mood Colin,” You said tossing your keys onto the kitchen counter.
“Rough day?” He asked strumming on his guitar.
“What do you think?” You said grabbing a beer out of the fridge then tossing Colin one.
He sighed sitting his guitar down before making his way over to where you were standing, “You wanna talk about it?”
You took a swig on of the bottle due to the fact that you were on edge, “I got a call from my mom, my sister is having a baby shower this weekend.”
“That’s what you’re all worked up about?”
You rolled your eyes, “No I’m all worked up because she wanted to know if I was bringing this boyfriend that she’s heard so much about.”
“I didn’t know you were seeing anyone?” He said confused.
“I’m not I just told her that so she would stay off my case I have enough stress as it is.”
“Well what did you tell her?”
“I told her I was bringing him.”
He chuckled, “This isn’t funny.”
“It’s a little funny.” He said still laughing, then stopping when you socked him in the arm.
“Ouch!”
“What am I gonna do?” You groaned.
Colin sighed, “I could be your date.”
You turned to look at him, “Not a chance.”
“Come on why not? You need a date I’ve got nothing better to do and it saves you from having to tell your mom the truth.”
You contemplated a moment, the only reason you were even saying no is because Colin has been trying to get in your pants ever since you moved into the apartment building. You guys were friends, but that still has never stopped him before.
“Is this some kind of ploy to get me to sleep with you?”
He put his hand over his chest while gasping dramatically, “How could you think such a thing!”
You rolled your eyes, “Okay all jokes aside, there is no ploy. I’m simply doing a friend a favor. Plus consider it a thank you for letting me hide out in your apartment all those times, let me do this one thing for you. I promise there will be no funny business, I’ll go to the baby shower with you, we act like a couple have some food visit for a little while and then we come back here and have some beers like two
friends.”
You pondered the idea a moment, I mean it wasn’t the worst idea in the world. You guys were only faking it how hard could it be, plus it would save you from hearing your mom bitch at you it would also save you from the sheer embarrassment of having to tell her you made it all up.
You sighed, “Fine, no funny business though,” You said pointing at him.
He put his hands up, “Scouts honor.”
“Were you even ever a Boy Scout?”
“For a little while, until I discovered girls,” He said with a chuckle.
You made a face, “and you wonder why I won’t sleep with? The baby shower is at one tomorrow don’t late.”
-
“Coming you yelled!” Making your way over to the front door.
You were shocked at the site you were met with when you opened the door, it was Colin who was actually on time. Even though you two lived across the hall from each other, there were times where he was never on time even if his life depended on it. Besides the fact that he was there on time. He was actually dressed presentable he was wearing a black button up, with a pair of jeans. He was also holding a bouquet of flowers.
“Wow.” Was all you could say.
He smiled looking you up and down before making his way inside, “Wow yourself.” He said handing you the flowers he was holding.
“Colin, you look great. I’m so used to seeing you dressed like a hormonal teenage boy.”
He chuckled, “Yeah well I felt like hormonal teenage boy wasn’t very appropriate for the occasion.”
You laughed, “Thanks for the flowers.” You said sitting them down on your kitchen island.
He smiled, “Well I figured we’re fake dating so why not bring my fake girlfriend some flowers.”
You couldn’t deny that the action was really sweet, only thing was though you were reading more into it. Because it’s not like anyone is around to see him give you flowers so that struck a cord with you.
“Okay, let’s get this nightmare over with,” You said grabbing your house keys.
-
When you made it to your sisters you couldn’t help but get overwhelmed. Your mind was racing, what if your mom could see through your lie and figures out you and Colin aren’t really dating? What if Colin is a complete perv the whole time or says things that other people might not find charming? All these thoughts were beginning to consume you, as you and Colin stepped off his motorcycle you pulled him to the side.
“I don’t think I can go through with this,” You said panicked.
“Why not?” He questioned.
“Because my moms always been good at reading me and what if she can see that we aren’t really a couple?”
“She won’t.”
“How do you know?”
He sighed, “Because I’m a great actor.”
You rolled your eyes, “Colin I’m serious, and you better not act like perv while we’re here.”
He chuckled, “This isn’t funny,” you said becoming frustrated.
“It’s not that it’s funny it’s just cute when you get all worked up,” He said with a sly smile.
“Look don’t worry we’ll just have to try and make this as believable as possible, if we do that your mom won’t suspect a thing. So let’s get this baby shower over with so we can go back to my place for some beers,” He said holding out his hand for you to grab.
You took a deep breath before taking a hold of his hand, something you would never admit to him though is that when your fingers intertwined with his it was almost like a jolt of electricity, it just felt right.
When you guys made it up to the door you knocked twice before you were greeted by your sister and her husband.
“I’m so glad you could make it,” Your sister said pulling you in for a hug.
“Wouldn’t miss it for the world sis,” You said as you both pulled away.
Your sister turned to Colin who had his hands tucked in his pockets standing awkwardly, “So is this the boyfriend?”
Colin smiled, “It is , I’m Colin it’s nice to meet you and congratulations.” He said reaching his hand out for her to shake.
She smiled while shaking his hand, “Thank you I’m Jes and this is my husband Jeff, it’s nice to meet you too.”
Colin nodded while shaking Jeff’s hand, as you guys made your way inside you were swarmed by a few aunts of yours who wanted to meet the guy you brought, eventually your mom made her way over. Which made you start to feel overwhelmed again you honestly thought you were going to hyperventilate, or at least you felt like you were until you felt someone squeeze your hand. You looked down to see Colins hand in yours, before you knew it all of your worry was gone because you couldn’t focus on anything but him.
“So is this the boyfriend I’ve heard so much about?” Your mom asked.
You nodded, “Mom this is Colin.”
“Nice to meet you,” He said extending his hand out for the woman to shake she smiled.
“Nice to meet you, I’ve heard a lot of great things.”
“Really?” He said turning his head shooting you a cocky grin.
“Only thing she left out though was how handsome you are.”
As soon as she said that it’s almost like his cockiness got worse, you rolled your eyes.
“Mom no need to tell him anymore things I’ve said about him or else Colins head might fill with air.”
She laughed, “Well I won’t keep you guys, I’m going to go check on your sister. Make sure to introduce Colin to everyone.”
When she was out of ear shot you looked over at Colin who still had that same cocky grin, “She’s sweet.”
You chuckled, “Settle down there cowboy you don’t want to fly away from that big head of yours.”
He gasped putting his hand over his chest, “Now is that any way to talk to your boyfriend?”
You shook your head, “Let’s go grab some food,” You said grabbing him by the hand.
“I love it when you take charge,” He chuckled.
-
The baby shower was awful, you hated every second of it. Mainly for the fact that half of your family assumed you made up this boyfriend of yours, which wasn’t a lie it was just still annoying to hear though when you’re introducing Colin to your family members.
Only thing you did enjoy was seeing Colin interact with your niece and nephew, you watched as he sat in the floor and played games with them. It was honestly starting to make you feel something you didn’t want to admit. Maybe you were into him, but you didn’t want to be because you knew Colin and he can’t be tied down. Your thoughts were interrupted when your niece ran over to you grabbing your hand.
You smiled, “Can you come play with us?” She begged.
You looked over at Colin who was having the time of his life sword fighting with your nephew, you couldn’t help but smile when the little boy poked Colin in the chest with the foam sword as he fell to ground with a loud groan.
You were so caught up in watching Colin you forgot about your niece who still had a hold of your hand, you looked down to see her still standing there staring at you.
“Please!” She begged.
You sighed, “Okay, I’ll play.”
“Yay!” She cheered pulling you over to where Colin was laying down on the floor playing dead.
“Good job bud.” You said giving the little boy a high five for stabbing Colin with the foam sword.
“Is he hurt?” Your niece asked.
You shook your head, “He’s fine, right Colin?” You said giving him a light kick to the leg.
He coughed dramatically while making his voice sound weak, “I would be if you kissed me.”
“Ew.” Your niece and nephew said in unison.
“Not a chance there are children present.”
He sat up with a sigh, “Was worth a try.”
After a few hours of playing with your niece and nephew and playing dumb baby shower games you and Colin finally made your way out of there alive.
“See that wasn’t so bad.” Colin said tossing you his spare helmet.
“If you say so.” You said adjusting the strap under your chin.
“Now beer here we come!” He said revving the engine as soon as you were on the back of his motorcycle.
-
When you made it back to your apartment building you and Colin found your way back at his place. You guys listened to some music and had a few beers even talked a little, one thing is though your mind kept wandering to what you were feeling back at your sisters place. It honestly made you look at him in a whole new light which you hated.
“Can I tell you something?” He said taking a quick swig of his beer.
“Sure?” You said confused.
“Today at the baby shower, I was having these thoughts,” He trailed off.
“Thoughts?” You questioned.
“Yeah,” He said rubbing the back of his neck which just so happened to be a nervous habit of his.
“Are you about to make this conversation sexual?”
He shook his head it honestly made you anxious because normally if you made a comment like that he would laugh or make some snarky remark, but he didn’t.
“I don’t know how to say this,” He took a deep breath standing up from his spot on the couch.
“You know what I’ll just say it, the thoughts I was having were about us, I like you I really do honestly I think I love you.”
You were shocked so shocked you couldn’t even speak, “Maybe it sounds crazy to say I mean I don’t know I’m not good with these types of things. What I do know is today us pretending to be together it felt nice, I want to feel that all the time. I want you and not in dirty way I want you. I want to wake up next to, I want to be your shoulder to cry on, I want all of you everyday. I want to be whatever it is that you need.”
You still couldn’t speak you would try to but it’s like you just couldn’t get the words out, “If you’re going to shoot me down could you just do it now?” He said sounding anxious.
“Colin, I honestly felt the same way today, it was nice being with you even though it was pretend. My only concern with being with you is the fact that you’ve slept with half the city.”
He scoffed, “So you don’t want to be with me because of my past?”
“The thing is it isn’t your past you constantly have women in and out of this apartment.”
“Okay, my question to you though is when is the last time I’ve had to hide out at your place? Or the last time you’ve seen a woman leave this apartment?”
You sat there a moment trying to think, but nothing came to mind, “Then why are you always at my place?”
He chuckled, “You really don’t get it do you? When you come home and I’m there I’m not hiding out, I’m there because I want see you. I haven’t slept with anyone in a while I haven’t even went out in search of a hook up in I couldn’t tell you how long, The reason why again goes back to you.”
You didn’t know what to say. You sat there dumbfounded, “You know what this was a bad idea I should of never told you, maybe you should just go.” He said sounding upset.
Instead of saying anything you stood up making your way over to where he was standing, he raised an eyebrow as you rested your hands on both sides of the boys face.
“What are you-“ Before he could say anymore you cut him off by bringing your lips to his.
The kiss started off passionate then it began to get a little hot and heavy, before you knew it Colins shirt was being thrown onto the floor along with yours.
“You sure you want to do this?” He said in between each kiss.
“More than sure.” You said unbuttoning his pants.
After you said that he wasted no time lifting you up to throw you onto the couch, you were both pretty sure your neighbors hated you both that night.
“That was just whoa,” He said pulling you close into his side.
“Yeah tell me about,” You said running your fingers over his chest.
“Who knew a day of pretending would lead us here?”
You chuckled, “Yeah, I’m glad it did though.”
The night ended with you and Colin laying on his couch with nothing but a blanket, just enjoying each other’s company.
