"You wanna know about your new partner, Burgess? After we broke up, he couldn't take it so he goes on a jealous rampage and he transferred out.” Jenn explains to Kim, obviously pissing Roman off. You can see him grow red in the backseat, and Kim pretends to care, as the 3 exit the car.
"How did we break up and just two weeks later, you're engaged? Unless you're looking to climb the ladder, Jenn-" roman started.
"You know what? Don't even go there.." Jenn cut him off. This led to back and forth bickering, completely distracting the two.
"Can you two just shut up?" Kim yelled, trying to move past this so they could do their house call.
The two completely ignored her, leaving Kim to do this alone. she walked up to the steps of the house, the yells exchanging between the ex pair slowly driving her insane.
"Just shut up!" she yelled from the front door. The two completely disregarded her again, and Kim rolled her eyes, again, and knocked on the door.
A loud, piercing gunshot flew through the door, and rang through Jenn and roman's ears. The bullet struck Kim right in her chest, sending her flying back. her whole body hit the hard pavement.
Jenn and Roman turned suddenly, and ran over to Kim's side. She was dangerously unconscious, both the other officers panicking.
"Burgess!" Roman yelled. He reached for his radio, and called it in. "10-1, officer down!"

"Jay, you're going in. you see anything, call it in. Kevin, Olinsky, I want you both around the perimeter." Voight instructed 3 of his men. Just as those three walked off, Voight turned to Adam. He saw him staring at the ambulance, as they loaded her into it, as she was strapped to a stretcher.
"go." Voight said simply.
"what?"
"Go be with her Adam. That's an order."
Adam silently thanked him, and jumped into the ambo beside the other two paramedics. The last thing Voight saw was him grasping onto her limp hand.

Jay searched the dark, creaky house alone, calling in 'clear' after searching every room. as he came across the last bedroom, he heard light footsteps, and slight rustling. He walked with his back towards the wall. He heard the footsteps get closer, yet quieter. he held his gun up, as he turnt into the room, awaiting to see who, or what was inside.
"Chicago PD!" he heard as he walked into the room. He could barely make a person out of the figure, but the next thing Jay knew, he was up against the wall, with a forearm to his neck.
Jay put his hands up, with his gun still in his hands. He looked at the person for a moment, and realized it was a girl. It was dark, and late at night, but from what he could tell, she had bright eyes, and very light hair.
"Drop your weapon." she instructed calmly.
"Look-" he started, matching her town.
"Drop your weapon!" she repeated loudly.
"Look, look." he said, motioning his eyes down to his waist, hinting at his badge. she looked down at his badge, and looked back up at him, purely confused.
"Detective Halstead, Intelligence."
She had a puzzled look in her eyes. she let him go, and they both lowered their weapon. She pointed to her badge, where they both looked before she spoke
"Detective Upton, Robbery-Homicide.." she trailed off.
"Halstead, talk to me." The two in the room heard from Jay's radio.
"...Robbery-Homicide’s here."

After things had calmed down, and both units had figured out why they were both there, they exited, finding out the house was loaded with booby traps, waiting to be used. Unfortunately, Kim got the worst one.
Police cars, and paramedics, anyone you could think of was outside the house, investigating neighbors, and thinking of any possible way out of this situation. Jay sat on the sidewalk by himself, on the phone with adam.
"Yeah, she's in surgery right now, but I'm terrified man."
"C'mon ruze, she's tough. she'll pull through." Jay reassured him. You could hear him stressing over the phone.
"Alright. update me."
"Same goes for you." Jay said, before ending the call. He heard footsteps coming up behind him. He looked up to see Detective Upton, standing over him.
"You alright?" she asked, raising an eyebrow.
"Just checking in with the cop that got shot." he responded, looking up at her. she reached out her hand, and he used it to get up.
"Sorry for..choking you out, and pointing a gun at you." She hesitated, forcing a smile to lighten the mood.
"Don't be." he reassured, "I would've done the same."
The two fell into silence, before she continued. "Well, it was nice to meet you...Detective."
"Jay." he finished for her. He stuck out his hand. she looked at it hesitantly, before shaking it.
"Hailey." she replied back, shaking his hand.
"Detective Upton?" The two heard from behind them. She turned to see Voight behind her.
"Sergeant Hank Voight, intelligence." he introduced himself. "Can I talk with you?"
She nodded her head, and followed him to a different place. "I heard about officer burgess. I'm sorry." She apologized.
"She's in surgery right now. The bullet grazed the subclavian artery. Luckily, it's not the worst of the worst."
"That's good to hear." she nodded. "Is there a reason you called me over here?"
"You like your job?" he asked.
she raised an eyebrow. "I beg your pardon?"
"I got an officer on furlough. Could use an extra hand."
she kept her eyebrow raised, not sure if she was understanding correctly.
"I'm saying there's a spot open in intelligence if you want it."
