Chapter Text
After the death of Eddie, Steve hid himself from the world.
He stayed inside most days, after the family video was destroyed in the ‘earthquake’.
Not even Robin could get him to come outside.
Here he lay now, on his back on the floor of his room, dirty clothes surrounding him. He sighed and pawed around him for the bottle of vodka he’d stolen from his parents’ alcohol cabinet. When he found it empty, he didn’t react. He didn’t really feel much of anything anymore, more of a constant numbness.
His eyes began to slip close, and his mind fell into darkness.
He was so tired.
When his eyes began to open, he was greeted with a viney face peering down at him.
He startled fully awake, and began to crawl backwards from where he lay on the ground. Steve looked around to find himself seemingly in the upside-down. He gasped, and stared up at what he presumed to be Vecna, based on the description’s he’d heard.
Vecna’s head tilted, and the creature turned to a figure next to him.
“Not what I expected,” Vecna rumbled to his buddy. “What do you think, Kas?”
‘Kas’ didn’t move, except for a one shoulder shrug.
Kas seemed tall, from what Steve could tell from the ground. They were wearing black knight’s armour, with moving vines crawling around their shoulders and arm braces. Long curly hair was sticking out from the top of the helmet, seemingly in place of a feather. He couldn’t tell the color in the dark of the upside-down.
Steve was pulled out of his thoughts by Vecna’s voice directed at him.
“I want you to tell your little friends I have my weapon, and that the end is coming.”
Steve shot up from where he lay, and screamed.
He wrapped his arms around his chest as he shivered, and gulped as he took in his bedroom surrounding him.
He let out a sigh of relief.
It was surely just a dream, right?
But it was so specific, and surely he couldn’t have just imagined kas. That was the wildcard he didn’t understand.
He had to tell Robin and the others.
