Work Text:

Katsuki was not ok.

She had been feeling weird this past week but kept thinking it was because of their grueling work schedules. Her nerves were on edge more so than usual and she just outright felt horrible from time to time. Yet again, she thought it was because of quirk overuse.

It wasn’t until she got up at 4 am, running down to the bathroom and emptying her stomach did she feel the spark of fear. Although she didn’t even give the benefit of thought to that and chased the thoughts away, instead taking a pill for her funny stomach and silently getting back to bed.

Her sleep didn’t go back to her.

She could go check it but she was already on birth control. Yes, she still had some tests just in case but there was just no way. They were so careful.

She turned one way and the other, her left hand ghosting over her stomach unnoticed. It was a little past 6 in the morning, half an hour before her alarm, did she finally decided to make sure. Making sure she wasn’t pregnant because other way around was just impossible. It had to be….

She slithered out of the covers, careful not to wake Izuku up. He did stir a bit to Katsuki’s fear but settled down a few seconds later. Katsuki let out the breath she didn’t realize she’s been holding.

It’s fine, it’s nothing , she kept reminding herself as she took her second trip to the bathroom. I’m probably a little cold or something. Stop exaggerating everything, stupid brain.

She took the box with the tests out from the depths of her bathroom closet and held it up as if she couldn’t believe what she was about to do. She dropped the thing down next to the sink as if it burned her hand and got to work. It’d take a couple of minutes or some more. Then she could go back and laugh at her stupidity for even suspecting a pr… a preg… a pregnancy .

She waited, her back turned to the test and lip between her teeth. She was half convinced to just throw the stick in the trash bin and snuggle back to the cozy bed that she left.

It had happened a few times after their doctor’s visit. They mostly used protection whenever they had sex with Izuku but these last few times, she couldn’t take the feeling of that latex material in her anymore. Izuku warned her, multiple times, but to no avail. Katsuki felt her skin itch whenever the condom snapped in its place on Izuku’s cock so she convinced Izuku to take it off. She trusted her birth control pills and at the time she didn’t care about any possible brats quite honestly. In the heat of the moment, she even threatened Izuku that she’d leave if he didn’t listen to her and it was just hot at the time, not this frightening.

She didn’t even realize the tear that slipped past her cheek and landed on her hand that’s squeezing her bicep hard enough to whiten her knuckles. She just froze there at the thought of a brat blooming inside her.

What if I am..?

What if they are..?

My God, what have I done?

She had waited for over five minutes now, she had to turn around and face whatever the result is. Delaying it wouldn’t change the facts. So she slowly approached the sink where she placed the damned stick next to, eyes looking anywhere but the thing. She took a deep breath, kept it for a few seconds and let it out before she finally focused on the stick.

There was one line.

And then another one right next to it.

She grabbed the stick with tears in her eyes and sobbed, sinking to her knees. Her hands were shaking so bad she dropped it twice before she took another good look at it, wishing she saw it wrong.

Two stripes.

Katsuki was pregnant.

She sank down further on a seat on the bathroom floor and sobbed openly, hugging to her knees and the stick in front of her.

Izuku saw Katsuki in their living room couch, hugging to a giant brown teddy bear. She was smirking at his way. Izuku raised a brow to ask what she was smiling at but then her face contorted into one of sorrow and she started to sniff back tears. Izuku ran by her side, panicking as he asked what was wrong repeatedly but she was just not answering. All she ever did was to shove the toy onto him and sob. Izuku tried to take the offered bear but that only made her sobs worse as she clung to it, also trying to push it away from her body like it personally offended her. Izuku was having hard time understanding the attitude when suddenly Katsuki disappeared into darkness. She was gone but the sobs continued mercilessly.

Then they grew in volume.

They kept on going even when Izuku felt reality coming back to him...

He was not dreaming.

He shot up from his laying position and looked around him, searching for his wife. Katsuki wasn’t in the bed, or the room.

The sobs didn’t cease.

Izuku got up and frantically searched around for the sources which lead him to the bathroom. There he found Katsuki on the floor with tears soaking up her nightgown and a stick in front of her. Izuku’s first urge was to check up on her.

“Kacchan, what is wrong? Why are you crying? Is it a nightmare? Or are you hurt? Is it your stomach again? I can get you-”

Those questions were not only left unanswered but were met with louder sobs. Izuku immediately got next to her and hugged her to his chest, rubbing circles on her back for comfort.

“I’m here, Kacchan, I’m right here. You’re ok, we’re ok…”

Katsuki squeezed his arm uncomfortably tight as she spoke with a wrecked tone.

“Deku… I’m… I’m pregnant.”

Izuku couldn’t comprehend the words right away, it took him a couple of more circles on her back that he stopped abruptly and his eyes went wide. He froze, so did the whole world for the couple.

Katsuki was ready to be scolded and for the “I told you so”s. She was ready for his breakdown and even cursing his wife for being so careless. She was ready to be left, even.

What she wasn’t ready for was the tears landing on her forehead and a most surprised voice.

“Y-y-you’re… You’re preg- Oh my God you’re- Kacchan that’s- I’m going to be a father! Kacchan you’ll be a mother! We’re having a baby?!”

Katsuki slowly detached herself from his arms with a look of disbelief on her face. As if she didn’t make her point straight she picked the test up and shoved it at Izuku’s face.

“Are you out of your mind?! I’m telling you I’m fucking pregnant Izuku! I’m carrying a baby! Have you fucking forgotten all the list of risks at my- my- and the-”

She couldn’t take a breath in nor could she let the one she took out. Her chest was burning and her back hurt. Her vision was getting blurry with black dots covering the edges second by second. Or was it minutes? She couldn’t tell. All she could hear was Izuku’s distant panicked voice.

Baby, focus on my voice! You’re ok! In and out slowly, Katsuki, in… and out… Like that baby, just like that, my perfect love… Come on, calm down.

By the end of her hyperventilation, she was too exhausted that even moving a single finger felt like dying. She slowly focused in on Izuku’s face and his features, the hand he had on her chest to guide her breaths, his eyes never leaving hers for a single second.

“I’ll get you to the bed, ok? Let’s get you comfy, darling. You’re doing perfect.”

Izuku carried her bridal style to their bed as she cried silent tears on his chest. He didn’t leave her alone like she guessed when he gently placed her on the bed. Instead he took the bottle of water at the nightstand and propped her head up for a few gulps. She drank a few but her stomach was still unwell so that was about all she could take before she had the urge to empty everything out.

Izuku then lied next to her and cradled her in his arms. He put kisses on her head and forehead and then temples. Katsuki felt herself calming further down and relaxing her tensed up muscles. That’s when she finally found the courage to ask the question.

“What are we going to do, Deku?”

Izuku took a deep breath and sighed. He swept his fingers on her stomach to test the waters and then caressed there fondly.

“I… have a feeling, Kacchan. It feels like we’ll be ok.”

“How can you know that?”

“I can’t . But… it feels like they’re going to be fine. They’re strong enough to find a place in you regardless of the pills and your quirk, didn’t they? It just… They’re…”

Katsuki closed her eyes and tried to imagine the life growing inside of her. The image of a little baby with tiny fingers and a button nose came into her view. Izuku holding the baby like he’s holding a treasure… then tried the invasive thoughts of her warned risks about pregnancy to discard the beautiful view. She squeezed her eyes more and trembled at the thought.

Izuku simply held her hand and brought it under his bigger one and held her stomach.

“We’ll be fine, Kacchan. As long as we’re together, we will be ok.”

Katsuki thought Izuku was all talk about this being fine thing but oh boy was he serious. He grabbed whatever book there was available about pregnancy and especially risky carrying ones. Katsuki was immediately taken to a doctor, different than Dr. Himawari because no, and was started all kinds of vitamins she needed to take on early pregnancy. Izuku convinced her to at least only do paperwork at the agency and not to put a toll on her body since it was super dangerous for her.

Her morning sickness was simply the worst any pregnant woman could ever have, she thought. There were good days where she could eat half a bowl of cereal and a sip of milk then there were bad days where she could only drink little sips of water and nips of chocolate. Katsuki hated chocolate. No matter the day though, she just couldn’t start a day without emptying her stomach first thing in the morning.

Izuku was right at her side whenever she felt the need, it was like magic. It also annoyed her to no end.

Whenever she had a loss of balance, poof, Izuku.

Does she feel a headache starting? Poof, Izuku with a calming tea.

Is the sickness gonna make her puke? Poof, a basket.

It felt as if she was being watched by the man 24/7 and it was probably the case. And it didn’t help her increasing anxiety and grumpiness at all. She loved her husband and all but god did she want to strangle the man for putting this baby in her sometimes, so she told Izuku. He only laughed at her and pinched her cheeks for the comment but that just annoyed the blonde more.

So, it was in and out a battle Katsuki gave the first two months.

And then came the time when they could finally find out if they were able to keep the baby.

Katsuki was taking unstable steps to the door where beyond was Dr. Kamado sat in his chair with her results at hand. And yes, Izuku was right at her side with his annoying hand on her arm to keep her tired form steady. She got tired pretty quick these days and it was annoying. Everything was annoying and frustrating and she didn’t wanna find out anything.

Katsuki stopped in her steps.

Izuku looked at her with worried eyes.

“Something wrong, Kacchan? Do you need a second?”

Katsuki’s eyes were already filling. She had the hardest time at having some leash on her emotions anymore.

“I don’t wanna find out, ‘zuku…”

Thankfully, her husband was just as much of a crybaby without the extra hormones. His own eyes were filling with hers and lip quivering as he hugged her to his chest.

“We’ll be ok, Kacchan… Don’t you see how they fight inside of you? They give us the hell to hold on! It’ll be ok, baby…”

Katsuki hugged back and calmed her nerves before she had her courage back up to walk to the door. She was sure to have new nightmares about it at this point.

She whispered under her breath, hand on her stomach.

“We’ll be ok.”

“Oh, Mr. Midoriya, Mrs. Bakugou-Midoriya, please have a seat.”

“Thank you.”

Katsuki sat next to Izuku, having her hand on her stomach like it’s glued to the place. It felt as if the moment she took her hand away, the baby would slip out of her hold.

“I have looked through you previous check-ups and the samples we took both from you and the baby for comparison.”

Izuku held her hand on top of her stomach. It felt as if her heart rate doubled when she felt Izuku’s own pressed against her back.

“I don’t want to further delay the matter and keep you waiting any longer than you already have.”

Katsuki snapped.

“Just spit it out already you old man! You wanna test my patience as well with your tests over me and my baby?”

The doctor held his hands up in defeat to calm the expecting woman.

“Sorry, sorry, you’re right but please don’t stress yourself this much. It’s bad for the baby.”

Katsuki huffed out and faced away from him when she suddenly froze. Then she slowly turned back to look at him.

“Wha- You mean-”

Dr. Kamado smiled brightly and nodded.

“I hereby congratulate you for this little miracle, Katsuki and Izuku. Your baby looks alive and well, they will be for a long time too as it seems.”

Katsuki turned back and hugged Izuku’s neck in the speed of light or something and sobbed her happy tears for a while as the latter couldn’t hold back his praises that he kept whispering to her ear if not a little louder.

It took them a while to find their composure back and listen to the doctor’s words, a little embarrassed. Though the doctor only shook it off.

“No need to be embarrassed on my account, this is truly a big surprise. When you first came here, I honestly was upset about the very slim chances of success but well… you proved yourself as the wonder duo here with a wonder growing inside of you.”

Katsuki smiled genuinely at Izuku and winked at him. Izuku couldn’t control his huffs of overjoy.

“The baby has the protecting mechanism of your genes thankfully and they seemed to adapt even better than yours so it seems. The problem with your levels of adrenaline is unlikely to be a problem for them, is what I mean. Although they are truly a fighter, it would be for the better if you can keep being as cautious. It’s still in the early weeks and risks are still present if not on the quirk side.”

Katsuki nodded fervently. Izuku hugged her tight from behind and also nodded determinately.

Dr. Kamado asked a few more questions about her own health and how the morning sickness is going, prescribing a few more things to her stack and sending them home.

While they walked to their car hand in hand, Katsuki forgot all about her annoyance and felt giddy.

“Is it a dream? Can you pinch me, Deku? Or don’t, I don’t wanna wake up from this one to puke.”

Izuku giggled and pulled her close as he closed in on her eyes with a smile that raced the sun right behind his head.

“This is real, Kacchan, if we’re not both dreaming the same thing. We’re going to be parents and show to world how to raise a brat as being the best parents there is !”

Katsuki blinked twice before she grinned.

“Did you just quote me?”

“Maybe?”

“You just mocked me! Your very much pregnant wife! Y’know, the one you knocked up?”

Izuku smiled down at her fondly.

“Did you even hear me you sap?”

“Yes and I’m glad wherever we are right now, Katsuki. I don’t regret a damn thing. So sue me.”

Katsuki swatted his arms away from her body and pushed his face away.

“Your face is annoying.”

“Here we go again…”

Izuku shook his head with a chuckle on his lips as Katsuki put one hand on her hip and the other pointing at the air as if scolding Izuku. Her red lips pouting with a suppressed smile.

“Your freckles are annoying, your smile is annoying, your nose is annoying and oh that eyes of yours? Horrible, unbearable. Have I said your freckles are annoying?”

“Yes, you did baby. Let’s get back to the car.”

Izuku held her hand holding her hip and guided them to the car as Katsuki went on and on about another spree of her annoyance of Izuku. Izuku knew she didn’t mean them as bothering stuff but this was her newfound way of telling she loved him so he didn’t mind at all if not found it adorable.

At the ride back home, he was sure to rub circles on his wife’s belly every stop.

Because now that they were complete and together, they were going to be more than ok.
