Work Text:
“Honey I’m hoooome!” Eddie called into the trailer. “I’m really sorry I’m late, the children needed a ride.” He dropped his book bag on the floor and toed off his shoes. Silence met him, and his brow furrowed. You had told him that you had something really important to talk about when he got home, and he had tried really hard not to forget this time.
He peeked his head into the living area and kitchen, you were nowhere to be seen. There was a sticky note on the fridge that said “gone to bed. Dinner inside.” And Eddie’s heart dropped. You were pissed. You usually didn’t mind if DND ran late, and even waited up for him to hear him regale the tales of the nights adventures. After graduating and getting a job at Family Video, Eddie couldn’t be a part of the highschool club, so Hellfire club had been moved to the basement of the public library. The library was a little farther away than the highschool, so waiting up wasn’t terribly uncommon for you. But you had told Eddie not to be late. You had said it was important. And he was over an hour late, so the fact you weren’t still waiting for him meant you were probably incredibly pissed. After forlornly eating a few bites of Mac and cheese you had saved him, Eddie trudged to the bedroom. The light was still on under the door, and he slowly opened it.
“My love? Are you still awake?” He asked softly. He was met with a sigh and the sound of you rolling over to face away from him. “ Aw hey hey hey, don’t be like that.” Eddie walked over to the bed you shared and crouched down. The light of the bedside lamp gave the room a soft amber tone.
“You’re late Eds, you promised.” You said softly, still facing away from him.
“I know, and I’m sorry. I should have told them I had someplace to be.” Eddie crawled onto the bed and gently kissed your head, shoulder, and any other uncovered piece of skin he could find. “How can I fix it?”
“You can’t fix it, Eds. I had something really important to talk to you about, and you promised you would be home, and I made dinner and waited and waited, and now it’s late and I’m tired. We will talk about it in the morning, okay?” You rolled over to face him and your cheeks were tear stained. Eddie sat on the bed and pulled you into his arms.
“Baby, I’m so sorry. I promise tomorrow I’ll do whatever you want whenever you want. All day. I’ll even wear a little maid outfit and only refer to you as my Queen if that’s what you want. Anything you name, it’s yours, okay?”
You let out a small laugh that turned into a yawn. “Okay you don’t need the maid uniform, but I like the idea of being called your Queen.”
“Anything for you, my love. Give your groveling apologetic excuse for a boyfriend a kiss?” He bent his head down and his hair tickled your face. You reached up and placed a hand on his cheek, pulling him gently down to you. You placed a soft kiss on his lips.
“Get ready for bed, Eddie. This bed is too big for just me. It gets lonely.” You gave him a sad puppy face, and he gasped and clutched at his heart with wide eyes.
“Oh heavens, we can’t have my Queen feeling lonely! What horror! What Unparallelled tragedy! This must be rectified at once.” He said with a serious nod. You settled back in the pillows and he got up. He took off his denim and his leather, then pulled his Hellfire Club shirt over his head with one hand. Your eyes traced the lean musculature of his chest, and the lines of his tattoos. Eddie saw you watching, and gave you a mischievous smile. “Does my Queen see anything she likes?”
“Your Queen always likes seeing her handsome bard in his natural state of being.” You replied, as he tossed his shirt in the laundry basket and undid his belt to remove his jeans. He grinned at your response.
“My darling, flattery will get you everywhere.” He tossed his pants in the same general direction as the shirt, and then crawled into bed. He gently wrapped his arms around your waist and pulled you closer to him. His nose rubbed softly against the crook of your neck and his breath was hot against your skin. “Is my Queen still lonely?”
“Not in the slightest.” You gave him a soft smile.
“Is her majesty still mad at me?” Eddie hid behind his hair and bit his lip adorably.
“No Eddie, I’m not mad. I was never mad, just hurt and disappointed.” You snuggled closer to him and brushed his hair behind his ear. His big brown eyes were focused on you like a hawk.
“I promise baby, I’ll make it up to you tomorrow.” His fingers rubbed intricate designs on your back.
“I know. But tomorrow doesn’t come unless you go to sleep.” You whispered, and Eddie gave the top of your head a kiss as he reached over and turned off the lamp.
The next morning when Eddie awoke, you weren’t in bed. This was not normal for you. Saturdays were a day both of you had off, and most of the time you spent them in bed in various states of undress, or on the couch watching whatever movies Eddie had picked up from Family Video. Eddie rubbed his eyes and sat up groggily. He looked at the alarm clock next to the bed, and was even more surprised and slightly alarmed that it read 8:05 am. You were never a morning person. Even during the week when you had to go to work as a music teacher at the local elementary school. You frequently ran out the door in a mad dash blur of coffee and loose sheet music. For you to be out of bed this early on a Saturday was basically unheard of.
Eddie shoved the blankets off of his body and got out of bed. He shuffled to the doorway of the bedroom and looked out. You weren’t puttering around in the kitchen, or on the couch. The bathroom door was closed and there was light coming from underneath it. Eddie went up to the door and knocked. “Baby?”
“Don’t come in, Eds.” You called, followed by what sounded like a retching noise. Eddie’s brow furrowed.
“Honey, are you sick?” He tried the handle but the door was locked. There was another retching noise followed by a cough. “Honey I love you and want to respect your privacy, but if you don’t tell me what’s going on I’m going to break the door down.” There was the sound of water running in the sink, followed by you gargling water and spitting. The door suddenly opened, and you were standing there in a tank top, one of his flannel shirts, and your little sleep shorts.
“Eddie, go sit on the couch.” You said softly.
“Honey, what-?” He started, but you just pointed to the couch. Like an obedient puppy, he went to the couch and sat, and looked up at you with big concerned eyes. You stood in front of him, hands on your hips, eyes down on the floor.
“Shit, I had this all planned out last night. Um. Close your eyes and hold out your hand.” You said, and Eddie quirked an eyebrow.
“Are you going to put something gross in it? I feel like I deserve a warning if it’s going to be something gross.”
“Eddie…” You gave him a hard look and he put up his hands in surrender. With one hand he covered his eyes, and extended the other towards you. He heard you walk to the bathroom and open a drawer, before coming back over to him. Something was placed in his outstretched hand. It felt like it was plastic. It was long and thin. Sort of like a pencil? No, flatter and a bit shorter. Wider, too. He was lost.
“Do I have to guess what it is, or can I open my eyes?”
“Open your eyes, Eddie.” You said, as anxiety bubbled in your chest and stomach. Eddie’s eyes fluttered open, and he held whatever was in his hand up closer to his face. There was a confused look in his eyes for a moment, then they grew wide in shock and he dropped the item on the floor. He looked at you with his mouth opening and closing like a fish.
“Am I high?” Was the first thing out of his mouth.
“No, we’re both completely sober.” You whispered and bit your lip.
“This is real? You’re…” A big grin broke across his face and he lept up from the couch. His smile was contagious, and you couldn’t help but grin back.
“I’m pregnant.” Eddie picked you up and kissed you so passionately you could have sworn you heard angels sing. He made sure to set you down gently on the couch, and knelt in front of you. He gingerly placed his hands on your tummy. He looked up at you with an expression on his face that was beyond any amount of joy you had ever seen.
“Oh my God you’re pregnant. I put a baby in you. Oh my God.” He was almost squealing with excitement.
“Eddie, I need you to look at me for a second please.” You said as you took his chin in your hand and pulled his gaze away from your belly and up to your serious face. “ I need to hear exactly what you’re feeling right now. This is a huge life changing thing that’s happening, and I don’t want you to feel like this is….well I mean… Eddie if you don’t want…” Your eyes searched his chocolate brown ones and you saw his heart break.
“Stop.” He whispered. “Stop that right now.” He took your face in his hands and pulled you into a soft kiss. “I know what you’re trying to say, but don’t even bother. I will never ever leave you. I love you so fucking much it breaks my heart just to think about that. And I would never leave because I got you pregnant. If anything, I love you even more now that you’re carrying my baby. Our baby. Fuck. I just found out about it and I already love it so much. So so so much. I’ve got a highschool diploma, and a job, and we’ve got a place to live. I’m sure Uncle Wayne is going to be over the god damn moon to be a grandpa. We can make this work. Moreover, I want to make this work. I want this life with you for as long as you want it with me.” Tears ran down your cheeks and Eddie kissed them away softly. You were too choked up to say anything, so Eddie kept talking. “I love you, and I want to have a family with you, but it’s your body the baby is growing in. I will support you and love you no matter what. I promise you as your humble servant, my Queen. My adoration. My Muse. My Goddess. My love.” He continued to plant soft kisses all over your face. You lift your head.
“So. Eddie Munson is going to be a family man?” You wrap your arms around his neck and rest your forehead against his.
“I’m going to be a family man. I’m going to be a dad. I’m going to work my ass off and get a second job, and I’m going to move you and baby into a nice house somewhere in suburbia, and I’m going to marry you one day, and I’m gonna teach the baby how to play guitar, and we’re going to start a family band, and…”
“Did you just say you were going to marry me?” You cut him off.
“Well yeah, I’ve been planning on it, I just didn’t know how to ask you. And I was going to ask Robin if she could figure out your ring size.” Eddie shrugged. A grin broke out on your face.
“I mean, does this conversation count as a proposal?” You laughed.
“That depends. Will you marry me?” He but his lip and stared at you.
“Eddie I’m having a baby with you, of course I’ll marry you!” You cried, and Eddie’s lips were attacking yours. Neither of you could stop smiling. He took one of the smaller rings off of his finger and slid it onto your hand.
“There. Perfect.” He kissed your hand. You couldn’t wipe the grin off of your face if you tried, and you lay back on the couch happily playing with the ring on your finger.
“Darling, your Queen is exhausted from morning sickness and just remembered that her loving fiancé promised to do whatever his Queen demanded today.”
Eddie stood up and gave you a flourishing bow. “Whatever my Queen and the heir wish, it shall be theirs.”
“The Queen wishes for breakfast. The heir is demanding pancakes drowning in syrup. But if that makes me sick, please also prepare a bowl of plain cheerios.” Eddie kissed your lips, then kissed your stomach.
“Anything for my Queen.”
