Chapter Text
It's a beautiful Sunday morning, you wake up with a good mood while staring into the admirable weather today. Suddenly, your mood changes as you see Steve looking for something as he gradually messes up almost everything you cleaned in your room.
"Hey hey hey," You say angrily because you had spent hours tidying and cleaning every single little thing in your room just for him to mess it up. You didn't take it seriously though, he is Steve afterall.
"I'm looking for my tuxedo, have you seen it anywhere? I'm kinda on a hurry," He sweats.
You were confused as you looked at him because you know Steve's not the kind of guy to wear tuxedos and fancy things.
"You should've just asked me, instead of you know, that," You said while gesturing over the mess he made.
"Oops," He sweats again, he's almost acting as if he didn't know he made such a mess. But you will forgive him in any matter.
"Uhh, so by any chances, have you seen it?"
"Yeah, you really should have waited for me to wake up. Anyway, it should be here," You askingly said while walking towards his drawer of unused things in his room.
"Woah! Thank you so much, you dont know how much I needed this." He said excitingly, loud enough to wake up Robin.
"What's all this?," She says slowly while yawning and fixing her hair. It's a mess honestly.
"Steve here is going on a date." You jokingly said.
"What, no!"
"I didn't know you still had the features for it Harrington," Robin mocks.
"I still do, also, I'm not even going to a date. Im going to my aunt Alicia's wedding." Steve explains.
"Also, sorry about that mess Lizzy, I'll clean it up later." Steve says as he hurries to the door and grabs his keys.
"See ya later nerds!" He exclaims while shutting your apartment door.
You slept again, then after a few hours, woke up again and you offered to make Robin breakfast, but she insisted that she'll make it since she knew how tired you were last night.
"You know what, do you want bacon and eggs or do ya wanna go outside to eat? My treat," Robin asks.
"I'm a little too tired to go outside, probably some other time."
"Okay, let me start making them then," She declares while she opens the fridge to grab the bacon and eggs.
You always liked Robin, she's so funny and sweet and you both have a habit for picking on Steve, and she never allows you two to be super tired.
You watch her cook as you open the TV and slowly sit on the couch.
As you were watching a movie, Robin squeals, "Breakfast is ready!" so you quickly turn the TV off and walk to the counter to eat.
"So what are your plans tonight?" You ask Robin while you chew some bacon.
"Nothing, I just wanna sit around and watch movies to be honest," She says while washing some dishes. "You?"
"Im gon- Im gonna visit my dad after a while," You stutter.
"Is something wrong?"
"No, nothing." You explain while trying to keep it together.
You quickly change the topic, "Aren't you gonna eat too?"
"I'll eat after washing these,"
"Okay, and I'll be in my room." You say while putting the last piece of egg into your mouth.
After eating, you put your dishes on the sink and go back to your room to grab some clothes only to remember the mess that Steve made. You remember that he was probably gonna be tired after the wedding knowing he hates weddings, so you do it anyway even after he promised to clean it up for you.
You pick the clothes of yours piece by piece and fold them. Then you place them into your drawer, then grab a set of clothes for you to wear after your shower.
You suddenly felt a sharp pain on your chest, and you softly collapse on your rooms floor and groan. Robin quickly runs to you and shouts your name worriedly.
"Liz! What happened, are you okay?" Robin asks with a shocked face.
"Nothing, I'm fine."
"No you're not. Tell me."
"I'm- I'm fine. It's nothing, It's jus- I'm fine, Robin,"
"No Elizabeth, you are not. And I hope you tell me." A worried Robin asks while she rubs your back and softly hugs you.
You ask Robin to promise, "If I tell you, don't tell Steve, okay?"
"You can definitely trust me on that,"
"Well, Robin...,"
"What?,"
"My heart is failing." You say while trying to keep yourself from falling apart.
"And, I'm gonna die."
"Liz..." Robin said as her voice cracks and cries then runs to hug you.
You were both crying, sobbing and hugging and staring into eachother. It was silence and at the same time quite loud.
After a few minutes, you hear the door open and the sound of jingling keys, It's Steve. You both wipe your tears and keep eachother together and wait for Steve to come in.
Robin whispers, "Its going to be okay."
You hear the door to your room open and see Steve smile and have his smile fade away and ask, "Hey, what's going on here?"
"Lizzy's hea- We just watched a movie," Robin said and shocked both you and her.
"What movie had you crying, Buckley?" He said while mocking you both.
You both look at eachother and start worrying. You quickly thought of a movie that actually made you cry, though.
"Terms of endearment," You say loudly and in an agressive tone. It shocked all of you because of such a tone.
"Woah okay Lizzy, well, I guess I'll leave you two to talk, I'll be in the living room." He said while he walked out of your room and to the living room.
You both sigh in relief that Steve didnt suspect too much. After cleaning up a few more things, you then both walk to Robin's room.
"Robin, can I tell you something?"
"Tell away,"
"If I die--" you said while Robin stopped you, "Hey, no,"
"Well okay, if I don't make it, can you tell Steve that you know,"
"First of all, you will make it, second of all, tell Steve what?"
"Robin...." You say while gathering up the courage to tell her.
"Spit it,"
"I like him,"
"I liked him since we were 17, I don't know, It was so sudden, I don't know why, but it hit me hard like a rock and it always occurs to me that he'll never like me back since he'll always see me as that one cliché best friend, and I only had the courage to tell him if I don't make it because I--"
You spoke so fast, you couldn't calm down so Robin stopped you by covering your mouth using her hands.
"Shh, I get it."
"You do?" You let out in relief.
"But you know, I saw it coming, whenever he comes into the room your pupils always brighten and become bigger and stuff, It's like you want him to know,"
"I do not," You try to argue, but you know you do. You always do, you always get excited whenever he'd walk into the room and when he'd tease you, you always liked it, you acted like never cared about him, his life problems and every other problem, but you did, you cared more than everything. You always cared. When that mind flayer was chasing you three, you couldn't help but hug him, but you couldn't, because you arent brave enough.
"Yes you do. You know damn well you do. Anyways, he definitely likes you. He always puts a blanket on you instead of me whenever we'd fall asleep on the couch watching movies and drinking. He'd always make just enough dinner just for you and he'd always look out whenever somethings about to happen to you. When you were sleeping in that car while running away from that mind flayer shit, He looked at you as if he was gonna burst into tears and kiss you. And when he came fresh out of the upside down, he came straight to ask you how you've been. I've seen the tension, Byers, I've seen it. If he doesn't like you, then he's a stupid guy. Like, wayyyyy too high level of stupidity." Robin says to you with full passion. Robin's support makes you more than confident to tell Steve how you felt. Although, a part of Robin looks like shes about to cry and burst, so you ask, "Are you okay?"
"Why wouldn't I be, Liz?" She said while putting on a straight face.
"Okay."
"How am I going to tell Steve? Do I tell him by note? Directly? Or do I tell someone to tell him? Do I ask him out for dinner then I tell him there? Or what if--"
"You're doing it again, Liz." Robin calms you.
"Oh, yeah right, sorry,"
"Don't apologize, you're all good. I have a plan, but you'll need to call Eddie."
