Chapter Text
It was around 20 minutes before class began. Abbey, Heath, and you stood by your locker chatting away.
"Why not study for quiz?" Abbey questioned you with a stern tone.
"It's pointless.." you reply. "I'm failing anyway, it's far too late to get my grades up."
"Not true. Plenty of time to do good on assignments," Abbey said with a motherly attitude.
Heath snorted. "Yeah right, once she's down the rabbit hole of bad grades she can never climb out!"
You quickly dug your heel into Heath's foot causing him to yelp out. "That's not true! I've had many great comebacks!" You crossed your arms. "When was your last A? I can't recall the last time you did a test without cheating or giving up."
"I can say the same for you," Heath said with a smile. "Must've been ages since you actually put effort into work."
Abbey sighed out, shaking her head with disappointment. "Okay, enough. I help you before quiz," she announced to you.
Giving her a big smile in gratitude you heard Heath scoff, but he didn't say anything else. You've noticed he's been a little sparky lately, always wanting to cause arguments.. more than usual. You thought maybe it was to gain attention from Abbey, who's been hanging around you two a lot more, but that was proven false quickly.
Heath always loved a little argument but he usually knew when to stop when he saw you getting frustrated, but not as of lately.. You broke it down to possibly stress, it was a quirk of Heath to annoy you when he felt overwhelmed or down. Honestly you just wished he'd tell you what was on his mind instead of making you a victim of his lame torture. If only you picked someone else to be your best friend.
"In reward for high grade on quiz we go out to mall and shop for new shoes," Abbey said.
Heath smiled wide, "Aw that sounds sweet, can I go too?"
"No," Abbey said plainly.
"But I need new shoes too! Look at mine!" Heath pointed down to his feet. His shoes were worn out and covered with mud.
"Go by yourself," You say, rolling your eyes.
"But I hate shopping by myself, you know that!" Heath said, he flared his puppy dog eyes.
"Heath, bestie, I love you but I need a break from you. You and I can go shopping for shoes some other time," you replied.
Heath exhaled with frustration. "What if my shoes fall apart before then?"
"That's a you problem." You tell him.
Heath grumbled some sentences under his breath that you didn't hear but ignored knowing it wasn't that big of a deal. You began to chat with Abbey again as Heath sulk to himself.
All was well until you noticed the most strangest thing you never thought you'd see.
"Is that a normie?" You said in shock.
There in the hallway was a normie boy looking like he was about to have a nervous breakdown. He adjusted his glasses as he read a paper in his hands. Every monster in that hallway stared him down like he was fresh meat, you could tell he tried not to notice.
Heath slammed his head onto your shoulder and groaned. You patted his back as he moved his head to stare at the guy.
"That's my cousin…" Heath admitted.
"Your what?" You replied, eyes wide.
Heath nodded his head, it still resting on your shoulder. "He just transferred here.. Don't ask about how he's a normie, long story."
You stared at his cousin who was now reading the locker numbers.
"Heath if that's your cousin you need to go help him around." You state.
Heath let out another groan shaking his head rapidly.
"Heath-" you started.
"Y/n I can't let people know I'm related to him!" Heath cut you off. "I'm already a laughing stock, imagine what would happen to me after they hear about this!"
"If you don't go help him right now I'm going to announce to everyone you're cousins," You threaten. "Nobodies going to see you two together and immediately think, 'wow these two must be related!'"
"Y/nn" Heath whined.
"Go on," You pushed him off of you.
Abbey and you watched as Heath sadly walked to the new kid, shoulders slumped. Once the normie recognized Heath you saw the immediate relief on his face. You smiled as Heath led him to wherever the paper said.
"It surprise me how he listens to you," Abbey says.
"Honestly me too.." You reply.

Nervously, you drum your fingers against the desk. The quiz was over and currently getting graded.
Frankie sat in the seat next to you looking confident like she was during the quiz.
You didn't have a lot of close friends, just a few acquaintances here and there, but Frankie made people know of her existence and made them be friends with her, that included you. Frankie was a friend to you, she was very sweet and helped with some of your problems in the past, she was like an angel.
"How'd you think you did?" Frankie broke the silence between you two.
You took a moment to think of a reply before speaking, "hm, well I think I did decent, Abbey helped me before class and some of the questions looked familiar.. Definitely not a D."
"Well that sounds good!" Frankie replied with a smile. "I stayed up all night studying, I hate when those small random things you do bad on bring your grade down."
"Yeah I agree," you let out a fake chuckle, not actually relating to her.
Silence was again washed over the two of you..
It felt like ages before the teacher finally passed back the quizzes, right before the lunch bell rang. Checking the paper almost immediately, you spotted in the top right corner a big red C+. You grin in satisfaction, eyes lingering on the letter for a bit longer before you quickly gather your things and said your goodbyes to Frankie before strolling out of class, quiz in hand.
Abbey was quick to spot you as your classes were only a few doors down. You two walked to the creepateria together, weaving in and out of the crowd.
"What'd you get?" She asked with a raised brow.
You grinned with pride as you flashed her the paper. "C+!" You said, cheerfully. Not missing any steps as you walked.
"Oh.." Was all she said, looking at the paper with an almost unreadable expression.
You frown, feeling a bit down at her reaction, it was probably the best grade you've gotten in that class so far. Folding the paper in half you held it close at your side.
You let out a small sigh before putting on a smirk. "So, does this mean we are going shopping?" You ask.
She glanced at you from the corner of her eye for a second before looking forward. Carefully you watched her face to see any hint of what she was thinking. Finally she cracked a smile, "yes, I suppose so," she replied to you.
"Hell yeah!" You cheer.
Once entering the creepateria Abbey left you to go sit with her friends. But you weren't alone for long, Heath was quick to pull you into the line with him, ranting about something completely random that had happened to him last class.
The story lasted way too long. Only did he stop when he sat you two at a table with Deuce.
"Hey guys," Deuce greeted.
You give him a friendly wave.
"Hey what's up?" Heath replied back.
"Nothing much, just wishing school was over, got a date with Cleo," Deuce answered.
Heath nodded, nibbling at his sandwich. "Wait Y/n, how'd you do on your quiz?"
"C+.." You say.
"Oh damn! You actually tried huh? Abbey taking you out then?" Heath questioned.
"Yeah actually, kinda surprising." You said before taking a sip of your drink.
Slowly Heath's small smile turned into a frown, you could tell he wanted to bother you about tagging along again even though he knew 'no' meant 'no'. But before he could, a disturbance from across the creepateria caused your trio's attention. It was the new kid again, and it was clear he wasn't very popular amongst the monsters. A forceful bump of two mansters caused him to go tumbling.
"Normie in a monster school?" Deuce questions, worry and disbelief filled his tone.
"Just transferred in," Heath frowns, "my cousin, Jackson."
"Your cousin's a normie?" Deuce asks.
"It's a long story.." Heath replies with a pondering look on his face.
"Well we can't just stone wall your cousin like that!" Deuce announces. "Monster High is about being cool to everyone, no matter who or what you are, even if 'what' means normie."
You wipe away a fake tear from Deuce's inspirational speech as Heath rolls his eyes at him. He didn't seem to notice the two of you though he was too busy looking at 'Jackson'.
Quickly Deuce waved his arm in the air, something you weren't expecting him to do. "Hey Jackson-" he called out, immediately gaining the normie's attention, "got a spot over here for ya!"
Jackson's eyes lit up as he quickly made his way to your table. You saw Heath immediately panic, a scowl plastered on his face, but he didn't do anything but stay silent as Jackson took a seat next to the gorgon.
You laughed at Heath, patting his back in mock sympathy.
"Yo, how's it going dude? I'm Deuce," Deuce introduced himself, holding out a fist to the normie.
Jackson happily accepted the first bump. "I'm Jackson! Oh- well I guess you already know that.." He awkwardly chuckled. You could already tell he was the nervous, nerdy type which was a good addition to the school, there weren't a lot of them.
"Yeah Heath told us who you are. This is Y/n by the way," Deuce gestured to you.
You gave a friendly wave to Jackson, taking the time to really analyze him now he's up close. He gave a wave in return before Deuce continued. "Don't let those jerks get to you, it takes guts to enroll here."
It was actually heartwarming to see Deuce be all caring, you didn't hang around him as much so it wasn't everyday for you to see him go off on a heartfelt tangent. No wonder Cleo was crazy about him.
Jackson picked at his food. "You think so?" He quizzed, a frown tainted on his face. Doubt was all over his face, poor guy probably had a shit day.
"Yeah of course, no normie would dare look twice at this school." Deuce replied, trying to give him any bit of confidence.
"Well I for one think it's a bad idea." Heath sneered. "You know how monsters think of you dirty norm-"
Quickly, before Heath could finish, you shut him up with a smack to the back of his head. It was accidently harder than you were expecting, it caused his head to fly forward and him to yelp out in either surprise or pain. Once he recovered he dared to glare at you while he rubbed where you smacked him. His words left Deuce with his mouth slightly agape, he too probably wanted to smack the fire element in front of him.
"I'm going to put you in a fucking blender," you threatened. "Apologize right now."
"What?" Heath said in disbelief.
"You heard me." You said. "You're being very rude right now, that is your cousin." You pointed to the normie in front of you.
Heath rolled his eyes at you and grumbled unkind sentences under his breath before turning his attention to Jackson who was visibly upset.
Quickly Jackson lifted his hands in a surrender type of way, quickly shaking them. "No it's okay!" He stuttered out. "He's probably right anyways.." It wasn't hard to spot the sad look in his eyes. You wondered if Heath and him hung out when they were younger and if Heath spouted the nonsense he was now.
Deuce clicked his tongue. "No he's wrong, like always. Monster High is for everyone whether the students here like it or not," Deuce crossed his arms. "Did you even hear me when I said that earlier Heath?"
"No," Heath started, "You were too easy to tune out, talking about all that boring stuff.." He picked at his jacket with a bored look.
You couldn't help but facepalm at his stupidity. "Heath, you really know how to dig a grave." You sigh.
Everybody knows not to mess with Deuce, except Heath, and time and time again he's proven that by the amount of times you witness him turning into a stone statue. It was like a break to you, even if you did get lonely. There was no stupid topics you had to listen to, no watching pitiful flirting that lead to Heath getting physically abused. Deuce even takes the liberty of carrying around his pathetic, stoned body so you aren't stuck with the dead weight. At times, just to annoy Heath, you'd dress him up, throwing whatever accessories you can find on to him and grin as people joined in.
Deuce wasted no time in reaching for his glasses which caused Heath to jump up and try to pull his hands away.
"Hey, hey, hey!" Heath said quickly. "There's absolutely zero need for that, it was a joke-I was joking," he let out a desperate chuckle and Deuce frowned at him but let his hands fall back onto the table anyway. Heath quickly looked at Jackson and gave a forced smile. "I'm sorry." He said simply.
Jackson eyebrows furrowed "It's okay, I forgive you," He said. A small grin appeared on his lips.
Heath let out a sigh as he plopped himself back down onto his seat. "See everything is fine, can you guys stop tryna kill me now!?"
Deuce gave him a dirty look that you can spot even from under his shades. "If you stop being a jerk then yeah, but if I hear you saying that stuff again.." Deuce threatened.
"Yeah, yeah I know.." Heath replied. He continued eating his sandwich sulking-ly.
