“Will you… be my friend?”
She had asked you in Elpis. You gave her your honest answer. You remember the way she preened in delight; her gentle laugh, the way her azure eyes lit up, the little hop and skip she did.
That girl followed you around like a baby duck would to its mother. What little time you spent in Elpis you had grown immensely attached to her.
She was amazed to find that you could turn the Elpis bloom black with sorrow. But then the sorrow became too much for her to bear.
And when that little bird took to the skies, carrying the burden of a thousand dead worlds your heart shattered.
Not for your Star, Eitheirys, but for her. The pain and torment she must have felt. You wanted to help her, after all thats what friends are for.
And so you travelled to the edge of everything to find her.
“Will you be my friend?”
She asked you again at the end of the universe, once the dust from your long battle had settled. You gazed down at the frail child in your arms, she was never a monster.
Her dying form had already begun to dissipate and waver. You smiled and nodded sincerely, wiping the unrelenting tears from your face. Your voice cracking as you whisper.
“I was always your friend Meteion.”
