Chapter Text

Tobias turned to see Sussie laughing full-heartedly; it stunned him for a second before the recess bell rang. Every student walked lazily to class as Tobias watched Sussie walk inside.

"Uh," Tobias mustered; he was at a loss for words.

Tobias composed himself as he walked into Miss Simian's class. He fist pumped Idaho as he made his way to a free desk.

...

Tobias was already bored of listening to Miss Simian going on about physics. Luckily for him, the mood turned lighthearted once Gumball had to go in front of the class to be an example which somehow ended up with him laughing on the ground, Gumball's humor reaching the rest of the course. Tobias was missing the context again; however, his gaze turned to look at Sussie. He blinked multiple times, bringing him back to an empty classroom. Idaho was standing next to him, snapping his fingers.

"You okay, dude?" Idaho asked.

"Yeah! Let's go," Tobias said, getting up. On the school bus home. He sat next to Banana Joe this time, and the seat beside theirs seated Masami and...Sussie.

At home, Tobias let out a sigh. He brushed off today and was sure he'd stop noticing the girl he barely spoke to in school.

"Yeah, everything will go back to normal," he whispered as he closed his eyes and fell asleep.

Chapter Text

"Sussie give a gift to Tobias," Sussie came over to Tobias, hoping he'd accept it; she'd love to see him happy.

"Hm, ah, thanks?!" Tobias said, accepting a worn-out lamp wrapped with a ribbon. His stomach felt weird as he stared off at Sussie.

"Idaho, what do you know about Sussie?" Tobias asked as he watched Sussie zoom around the cafeteria.

"Nothing much; you should ask Gumball and Darwin; I usually see them hanging out with her."

"Of course," Tobias said, rolling his eyes.

"I need your help," Tobias says, staring at Gumball at his locker. 

"What?" Gumball asks Tobias as they are now at recess. 

"Uh, well-" Tobias stops as Sussie comes up to them. She yells happily, and Tobias is left breathless; Gumball sees this and raises an eyebrow. Sussie leaves, and Tobias lets out a sigh.

"Tobias? Wait, do you...like Sussie?" Gumball asks, putting the pieces together, shocked to see Tobias, of all people ending up liking Sussie.

"Uh, yes?" Tobias said, twiddling with his figures.

"Huh, unexpected, okay dude, consider us your, uh, what's that-wingmen-yeah," Gumball said.

"What are wingmen?" Darwin asks. 

"That's what we are, Darwin! Where going to help Tobias impress Sussie so they can start dating, or whatever," Gumball says, wrapping an arm around Darwin as he speaks.

"Okay, dude, like we said, just hand her these flowers," Gumball said, pointing to the bouquet in Tobias' hands.

"You think I'm ready for this?" Tobias said, a little flustered, gazing at Sussie.

...

"Hey, Sussie, I wanted to give you these," Tobias said, extending the flowers toward Sussie.

"Sussie loves flowers!" Sussie yelled as she hugged the flowers and proceeded to kiss them. Tobias stood there gazing at her with a fond smile; he felt warm inside.

"That went great!" Tobias claimed excitedly with his hands in the air.

Tobias had gone home happily humming. Sussie loved the flowers he gave her. It made him happy to see Sussie so delighted over his gesture. He let out a love-sick sigh. He walked to his room and got on his computer, scrolling through Elmore plus, when he stopped and asked himself if Sussie had a profile. She most likely did...

"...just a quick look," Tobias told himself as he searched Sussie's name. He found her profile. He found himself scrolling down and reading her past posts. Most of her posts were about anything that made her happy that day; he scrolled through her photos. He hovered over the friend request button. 

"What's up with you?" Rachel walked past her little brother's room, not caring, as she saw his idiotic expression staring at his computer screen. 

"Huh!?" Tobias jumped as he accidentally sent Sussie a friend request. He ignored his sister and thoroughly freaked out. 

"Oh, no, no, no, no, no," Tobias thought, then a notification popped up...

[ Sussie accepted your friend request ]

His eyes widened, and he felt his cheeks warm up. He couldn't help but feel his heart flutter. What was he supposed to do next? Message her? Oh, how badly he wanted to message her, get to know her better. Then another notification popped up from Sussie; it almost made his heart jump out of his chest.

Tobias waited...still freaking out. How was this even happening!? His chill demeanor was being tampered with over a friend request...

"Aw, man, this is embarrassing," he said, cupping his cheeks and staring at his screen.

"She's too sweet," Tobias thought as they kept chatting about mundane things. Soon enough, it was getting dark out, which he found out once he felt the sting in his eyes. 

"Ugh, was it really that late?" He thought he'd have to say good night soon. Soon came about twenty minutes later; Sussies parents said it was time to go to bed. Tobias smiled as he sent a final message of a sleeping cat. Tobias closed his eyes with some final thoughts; hopefully, this was just the start of-of something...

Chapter Text

The following morning all the memories of last night flooded back making one Tobias Wilson smile.

But, now what?

"Ugh, life is so complicated!!" Tobias said pulling his hair. Still, he got ready for school and waited for the bus. He walked in and sat down. After a few more stops Sussie got on, Tobias hesitated but waved and said hi.

“Hey, Sussie!" Tobias winced at how energetic he sounded.

"Hello!" Sussie greeted back.

"Uh, wanna sit with me?" He asked, he noticed her smile, and he got up signaling for her to take the window seat.

”Okay!" Sussie yelled before sitting down. Tobias couldn't help the smile manifesting itself. They had mindless conversations until the bus pulled up to Elmore high.

During one of their classes, students had to partner up and Tobias found himself sitting next to Sussie. His heart was pounding as he looked up at her with a nervous smile.

The two were finished with the worksheet they were given, and at that moment Tobias had a single thought running through his head, the thought of wanting to ask Sussie to lunch, and soon Tobias found himself doing so.

"Sussie, wanna sit with me? You know, for lunch period," Tobias asked, it just came out with no hesitation!

"Sussie'd love to!" Sussie said waving her hands up happily. Her day was blurred with the smiles Tobias was sending her way. His gaze held such affection she wasn't used to getting from anyone other than her parents. It felt nice and it made her cheeks warm.

During lunch Tobias and Sussie sat together at a far back table, Tobias hopeful it would be quiet there, Gumball and Darwin seemed extra loud today, something about a magic remote? Anyways, he turned his attention back to Sussie as she sat down.

TOBIAS'S POV
I asked her here, now what!?
How do I ask her out?
Aw, geez, why is this so hard???

I couldn't think of anything, I usually don't have trouble asking girls out!

Maybe I should try something simpler?
A compliment?

"You know, Sussie, you have a cute smile," I said, and froze when she turned to look at me.

"Thank you, Tobias, I believe your colorfulness is one of my favorite attributes about you," Sussie said, making me feel butterflies.

"Ahh-t-thank you," I stuttered, my cheeks burning, maybe I'll just wait till we get a bit closer, for now, I'll just enjoy the time we spend together.

"Yeah, I'll wait," I think to myself as I laugh at the stories Sussie tells for the rest of our lunch period.

Chapter Text

It's been a full week of Tobias subtly flirting with Sussie, but then she'd say something sweet about the boy as well, leaving him flushed and happy. By now, Tobias had built up confidence to ask Sussie on a date. 

"Todays the day," he said with determination. He'd ask Sussie out, he's not gonna use the word 'date' but instead just hangout, there was a skating rink he'd been thinking was a nice place to ask her out to.

In a blink of an eye school was almost over, Tobias spent the day trying to ask Sussie out, however, the boy found himself backing out last minute. He'd normally never had this much trouble asking girls out, but...with Sussie he could hardly hear himself over the loud beating of his heart.

"Sussie, wanna go out-to the mall...with me!?" Tobias wanted to run away...

"It's okay, it's better to start slow!!" Tobias thinks.

"Ah! Okay!" Sussie says happily, knowing Tobias wanted to spend time alone with her...

They were now at Elmore Mall.

"Ah, um, is there anywhere specifically you want to go?" Tobias asks. 

"Not exactly, but I want to look at costumes?" 

"Okay! There's a costume city by the corner of the store, let's go," Tobias suggested. For about an hour they talked and had fun trying on costumes and laughing together.

"You wanna get something to eat?" Tobias asks after they've paid for their new belongings. Now Sussie found herself in a pickle. Yes, she wants to eat, she probably loved food more than anyone, but everyone thinks she eats too loudly or they say it grosses them out. She doesn't want Tobias to think the same. 

"Uh, are you hungry?" Sussie asks back and then they hear his stomach growling. 

"Hehe, I guess so," he says rubbing his neck nervously, feeling his cheeks warm from embarrassment. 

Chapter Text

The two walked to the food court, ordered, paid, and now were eating.

"Sussie, you enjoy eating huh?" Tobias asks with a warm smile as Sussie nods. They continue with small talk till they both eat their fill.

"AGHHH! I'm so full now!" Tobias says happily rubbing his full stomach.

"Yes, It was delicious!" Sussie says as she enjoys gazing at the happy expression Tobias was showing right now...it made her feel fuzzy.

"You wanna stop by the park?" Tobias asks, and Sussie says yes.

After a bus ride to Elmore Park

"You...want to walk around?" Tobias asks.

"Yes, walking is so fun," Sussie says, and they start walking along the park's pond.

...

When they walked 3 laps around Tobias suggested sitting down on a bench and watching the ducks swimming in the pond.

"Sussie loved having so much fun today with Tobias!" Sussie says, happily.

"Really? I'm-I don't know what to say...that makes me happy," Tobias says bashfully. Tobias realizes that this could be his chance to ask her...

"Uhm, I wanted to say.." Tobias hesitates with doubts running through his mind.

"Yes?" Sussie asks, so sweetly, how could he resist risking it and confess...

"Sussie, I like you! Wanna date me?" Tobias asks looking down, hearing his heart pounding.

"Date?" Sussie asks herself, she was confused...date...Tobias wanted to date her? She didn't know how to respond, but she did know she liked Tobias...

"I like him..." Sussie thinks.

"Uhm...Sussie also likes Tobias," Sussie finally says. Tobias looks up at her.

"If I say yes, does that mean, Sussie can stay by your side," Sussie asks nervously, she felt her cheeks heat up. Tobias nods.

"Then, I do want to date Tobias!" Sussie confesses. Tobias let out a long breath of relief he was holding.

"Ah, I'm so relieved, I like you," Tobias says as he reaches out to hold her hand, making Sussie let out a giggle.
