Don’t let the bed bugs bite~

Summary:

You (understandably) have difficulty sleeping in this hellish nightmare school.

Work Text:

“Hey! You! Did you know that I’m not allowed to power down unless all of the students are asleep? You’re REALLY fucking with my sleep schedule here.”

You rolled over with a grumble, affixing your sleepy eyes on the small plush bear at the foot of your bed. You blinked slowly, adjusting to his sudden presence in your room. Normally, a loud voice like his would send you flying six feet in the air, but you hadn’t slept in three days and your reactions were shot.

With a yawn and a stretch, you mumbled a reply.
“Huh? Oh. Sorry. I didn’t know about that.”

Monokuma crossed his arms with a huff.
“Well now you know! Get to sleeping already!”

“...yeah that’s the thing-”

You sighed, slightly embarrassed about your predicament.
“I had a teddy bear at home... and I can’t really fall asleep without it...”

Monokuma snarled in annoyance.
“God that’s pathetic. What are you, five?”

After thinking for a while, he lowered his voice to a soft whisper.
“Could I.... work as a replacement?”

You shrugged.
“Wouldn’t hurt to try.”

“Yeah. Uh-huh. Whatever. Just don’t tell anyone else about this, okay?”
He muttered, crawling his way across the lumpy bed.

He laid down at your side, looking up at the ceiling and avoiding awkward eye contact with you. You poked his belly, which squished like a normal plush toy. Relieved by the fact that he was NOT made of metal or plastic, you cautiously wrapped your arms around him and pulled him in close. You rested your head in the small notch that separated his head from his body, nuzzling his soft plushy fur.

You could hear the soft clicks and whirrs of his machinery from deep inside him, but it was so muffled by fluff that it didn’t really bother you. It was almost comforting in a way. He smelled faintly of marshmallows and vanilla, and his scent filled your lungs with nostalgic memories of your home.
You felt safe, but deep down you knew you weren’t. You knew that he was the link to the psycho behind all of this. You knew he was your enemy.
But you couldn’t help but hold him tighter.

With a long sigh, you slowly drifted to sleep.
