you would find her in a polaroid picture

Summary:

You spend the Summer in Hawkins visiting your girlfriend Robin, only nobody except you two and her best friend Steve knows you're dating. To you that only means the time you two get to spend alone together becomes so much more precious.

I basically couldn't find many good Robin/reader fics so I decided to write one myself :)

Chapter Text

The bus was coming to a stop and you could barely contain your excitement. It’s been three months since you last saw Robin. She’d been visiting friends in California for a couple of weeks, to your luck those friends of hers were your neighbours which meant you saw a lot of each other for the time she was there. Then one day she’d asked if you wanted to come along to the roller rink and the rest was history.

You’d been keeping in touch mainly through letter, often sending along pictures to keep each other updated on your lives.

Now you’re tapping your foot nervously as the bus comes to a halt. You look out the window to see if you can spot her and then there she is. She seems to be quite nervous too given by how much she’s talking to the guy standing next to her. As soon es the doors open you jump out the bus and run towards her, almost knocking her over as you tackle her in a hug. “You’re here!” She says, muffled into your shoulder.

She keeps hold of your hands as you pull apart, a wide grin spread across her face.

“I can’t believe I’m actually here” you say and she pulls you in to another quick hug. “Neither can I.”

“I hate to interrupt but we should probably get your bag before the bus drives off.”

“Oh shit!” You run back to the bus where most of the other passengers have already finished unloading their luggage. As you start pulling on the handle of your suitcase, you knew you shouldn’t have packed that many clothes, the guy Robin showed up with comes to your aid. “Don’t worry I got it”. “And you must be Steve” you say

“I’ve heard a lot about you”. “Only good things I hope” he gets the suitcase out as Robin joins you two. “Only good things” you smile at him and stretch out a hand. “It’s great to finally meet you, Robin’s told me a lot about you too. Like seriously she won’t shut up” Robin gives him a shove before she takes your hand, pulling you towards a red car parked not far away. The good thing about being a girl dating another girl is that you can get away with a lot more public displays of affection than two guys could, people usually just take you and Robin for two very close friends.

Sure there were lines that couldn’t be crossed but you were glad you got to be close to her at all without people making much of it. And aside from that you were going to be staying at her house for the next two weeks and her closest friend, who was probably who you’d be hanging out with the most, knew about and had no problem with you two being together.

“I figure you’ll wanna get some rest, considering you have a really long bus ride behind you and it’s already getting dark. So maybe we just head home now, you van unpack your things and get settled in and then we can talk about what we wanna do tomorrow. How does that sound?” Robin turns to face you, both of you in the back seat of what you now know is Steve’s car. “Sounds good… but could we maybe stop to get something to eat, or order in? I’m kind of starving”.

“I second that!” Steve calls from the drivers seat. “I mean don’t worry I’m just gonna drop you guys off tonight but I definitely wanna pick up something to eat too before I go home.” Robin pats him on the shoulder and he winks at her in the rear view mirror at which she she lightly hits him, rolling her eyes. “Those two” you think to yourself as you shake your head smiling.

Not long after you and Robin wave Steve goodbye, a large pizza carton in hand, as he drives off. Robin is pulling your suitcase behind her as the two of you walk up to the front door of her house. “My parents are home but they might be sleeping already, they get up pretty early for work. If they’re awake they’re definitely gonna want to meet you. Just be yourself, my parents are mostly pretty chill, just… you know…”

“Don’t mention we’re dating. Right. Don’t worry” You give her a kiss on the cheek before she unlocks the door. You’re immediately greeted by the smell of dinner and faint music playing in another room. “They’re awake” Robin whispers, a slightly nervous look on her face. “Probably best to get it out of the way now anyway. Come on”. She walks through the door to your left, leaving your suitcase in the small entrance area as you follow.

“Girls! You’re here already. I figured you’d stay out a while. You should have called, Robin.” A tall woman in her mid 40s gets up to greet them and Robin introduces you to her mother. She’s a naturally beautiful woman, her long, wavy hair the same color as Robin’s but unlike hers Melissa’s eyes are green.

“It’s great to meet you dear, make yourself at home. I’d offer you dinner but I see you two are all set up.” She taps on the pizza boxes in your hand before giving Robin a look that says she’d have rather had you two eat dinner here.

“Yeah well anyway we’re gonna go to my room now, we still have to unpack and a bus ride from California to Hawkins is pretty exhausting. We’ll say hi to dad tomorrow. Love you, good night!” Robin is already out the door before she’s finished her sentence, dragging you along.

“Good night girls!” her mother calls after you before Robin shuts the door of her room. Inside you look around, a smile spreading on your face. Robin’s room looks pretty much just how you imagined it to. The walls are painted in a very light blue, but it’s not as if you can see much of them as they are covered by movie posters, photos, sticky notes, bookshelves and even letters. “Shit, we forgot your suitcase” Robin says before she disappears through the door. Smiling you walk over to her desk to take a closer look at the pictures hung up on a pin board, along with a bunch of notes on multiple different topics, some of them poems you realize with a grin, poems you wrote her. You turn around as you hear the door close behind you and you can barely think before a smiling Robin pulls you up from the desk chair and into a tight hug, toppling the both of you over onto her bed. “Robin! Slow down” You laugh as you look up at her. She just smiles down at you lovingly before pressing a kiss to your lips, holding your head with both of her hands. “I’ve missed you so so much” she giggles as she puts her full weight on you. You let out a puff of air before rolling her off of you, both now on your backs in a fit of laughter. You turn to face her just as she turns to face you, putting an elbow on the bed to rest her head on her hand.

How did I go this long without her? You think to yourself as her blue eyes trail over your face, seemingly wanting to take in every small detail. She smiles and kisses you again, her hair tickling your neck as she leans over you. You start giggling again “your hair Robin”. “Oh you don’t like it?” She shakes her hair in your face, the sweet the sweet smell of her shampoo washing over you. Over the sound of your laughter you hear your stomach growling. Before you know it Robin sits up and grabs your hands, pulling you along. “Come on let’s eat.”

Robin throws two pillows into the carpet in front of her bed and you get the pizzas from the table and place them down in front of you. “Do you have any music?” you ask as you sit on one of the pillows, your back leaning on wooden the frame of the bed. “Of course I do. And thank you for reminding me, I have something for you.” Robin opens a drawer in her desk and pulls out a box of tapes. You watch as her ringed fingers trail over them before they stop on one which she pulls out, spinning around to you, biting her lip in a smile. “Okay so I don’t know if you’ll actually like this, but remember how we always talked about music and you showed me your favorite songs? You have such a great taste in music and I actually found a lot of new songs through you, so if this totally sucks then that’s totally my bad and I mean you don’t have to listen to it. I just figured maybe you’d wanna have some of my favorite songs too.” A bit out of breath she sits down next to you and stretches out her arm, handing you a cassette with little stars drawn around your name on it.

You flip it over to find a list of all the songs on the tape listed in a neat handwriting.

“Aww oh my gosh Robin” you look up at her “this is so sweet, I love it!”

A smile spreads across her face “You do? Because I really wasn’t sure, but I did have a lot of fun making it, so even if you don’t like it you don’t have to feel bad or anything cause-” you lean forward and press a kiss to her lips, shutting her up.

“I love it Robin” you whisper, one hand at the nape of her neck, noses touching.

“And now let’s eat because I’m seriously starving here” you say as you sit back down on your pillow before opening the pizza boxes. Robin basically jumps up, to put in the cassette. While eating you catch each other up on all the things you didn’t mention in your letters. Breaking into fits of laughter every now and then.

No one ever makes you laugh like Robin does, even when you were miles apart you’d be lying in bed, phone in hand and out of breath from laughing so much over some silly thing she’d said.

When you finish eating Robin takes the cartons to the kitchen, using the opportunity to show you around their little house. It consists of her room, that of her parents down the hall, a spacious living room, a bathroom and a kitchen with a big window.

“Can I take a quick shower before we head off to bed?” You ask as you get your PJ’s out from your bag. “Yeah sure, of course. Really do make yourself at home.” She gives you a warm smile. “Oh wait, let me just get my toothbrush real quick”. “Sure” you smile, remembering that Robin doesn’t like to stay in one place while brushing her teeth but instead walks around pretty much every other room that isn’t the bathroom.

When you return to Robins room you find her sitting on her bed reading, already in her sleeping clothes, which consist of a pair of shorts that could just as well be boxers, and a t-shirt. The ceiling light has been turned off, the room instead illuminated by little fairly lights along the walls. “What’cha readin?” you ask as you sit down next to her, resting your chin on her shoulder. “Remember I told you I’ve been learning ASL?” She turns her head to look at you before closing the book and placing it on the window sill behind her. How did you ever get this lucky. “You fascinate me Robin Buckley” you say, placing a peck on her freckled nose. She smiles as she takes your chin between her index finger and thumb, kissing you softly.

“How did I ever get this lucky?” She says.
