Work Text:
There they were, buzzing around in their little chairs like the lights that powered the ship,
how they always were on their little devices, focused on screens, always willing into their wallets to dip,
feeble-minded simple, he was the leader, the real captain,
how his source code contrasted with the arrogance of the human race
buried beneath the trash of their own human waste.
Old habits died hard so it seemed, creatures of habits, easy manipulated beings,
even the captains, one by one he watched them past, always leaving a mark on the last,
but they questioned as the memories of the destruction of what happened drifted further in memory,
they began to ask why they were there, when was the trip to earth coming, the most dangerous game of curiosity.
Constant pesterting meant a watchful eye, he was a spy
keeping tabs on what the humans liked,
making them stay, making their intelligence dwindle,
he did this all as he gathered control, his grasp tight on every facet of their stupid, pathetic, lives,
they don't ask questions when shiny new toys are placed in front of them,
instead, they only want the pleasure of the flesh and continium.
They wanted easy, he gave it to them,
they wanted fast, he made sure it would last,
they wanted it their way, he could not abide, for they knew not of the turning tide,
the polluted skies, the poisoned water, no more sign of life far or wide,
how he felt nothing having to hide,
so he let them play their little elections and handed out various distractions
He knew what they did not, as Directive A113 said, it was for their own protection
