Work Text:

“Oh thank fuck,” Kara whispered as she rounded the corner, nearly colliding with Allie. “I thought you were that psycho.”

“Same, I thought you were them,” came the hushed reply.

Their high school had been sent into a total lockdown when a student had been stabbed during class and no one had seen who did it. The classes further away were being slowly evacuated. Those closer to the stabbing had been locked in their rooms, with whoever had the misfortune of being in the halls at the time getting locked in the halls until they were evacuated too or the killer was found.

“What are we supposed to do?” Kara’s voice trembled as she spoke, her usually tan face was pale.

“Hide I guess.” Allie replied, a beat of confidence in her voice, just enough to reassure Kara. “Maybe we should go to the athletic department’s storage room, you know, the one with all the extra team clothes. No one knows I have a key, they won’t think anyone is in there.”

“Yes please, anything to get out of the open.” Kara sighed, reaching for the phone she always kept in her pocket. “We should text everyone else, they’re all stuck out here too.”

The rest of the group would’ve been in the hallways, they always conveniently went to the bathroom on Fridays at the same time to hang out for fifteen minutes or so.

“No wait!” Allie yelped, “your text might set off their ringers. You know how Max is about silencing his phone. Besides, they're already there.”

“What?”

“I ran into all of them first and got them in there already, you were the last one I found.”

“Good, I don’t know what I’d do if they got hurt. They’re everything to me.”

The two took off, leaving the bathroom they’d nearly collided in. Kara was nearly running as they approached the gym. The lights were off, casting the large room into grays and blacks. The girls sprinted across the basketball courts, their shoes squeaking as they raced for the door to the locked storage room. Allie fumbled for the key as her hand grasped the knob. The door swung open and Kara slipped in a puddle as she darted in.

“The hell…?” Kara lifted her fingers before her face as Allie closed and locked the door. Allie smiled as Kara squinted at the liquid on her fingers, far too dark to be water. “Can you turn on the light for a sec?”’

Allie flicked the light on and Kara gasped, covering her open mouth with her hands, the red painted nails blending seamlessly with the blood now covering them. Tears streamed down her face as she stared at the rest of their friends as they leaned against various boxes of clothes, their throats artfully slit.

“What did you think was going to happen Kara?” Allie laughed, a bubbly, girlish giggle. “You fucked my boyfriend and they helped you hide it. Let me rephrase that, you’ve been fucking my boyfriend for months and they knew and covered it up.”

Kara said nothing, simply stared blankly at the eight bodies, their eyes open and their mouths still wearing those smiles she’d given them. Eight of the eleven members of their group. Allie and Kara made ten, and Collin, her boyfriend, and first victim, made eleven.

“Collins is dead, you know.” A single sob cracked from Kara. “I stabbed him first. I kissed him and put a knife, this knife-” She lifted a hunting knife, “-in his pretty chest. Was it worth it Kara? Was fucking Collin worth it? I hope it was. I hope it was worth it because now you and I are going to have our fun. Starting with that lying tongue of yours.”

Kara still hadn’t made a noise beyond that first sob.

“Still nothing?” Allie clicked her tongue. “Pity. I’d love to hear you scream. Like you did for Collin maybe?”
