Chapter Text
Mina’s been sitting in her dorm’s bathroom looking at the stick for ten minutes now, the plus sign burning into her brain. She was on the verge of crying.
“I’m pregnant,” she says to herself. She finally lets herself cry. Then she sobs. What is she going to tell her parents? How is she going to finish college? How is she going to take care of a baby? All these thoughts were flooding her mind as quick as lightning.
Through her sobs, she misses the sound of her roommate Chaeyoung walking into the dorm. After Chaeyoung puts her bag on her bed, she walks toward Her's and Mina’s shared bathroom. She puts her ear up to the door, and just as she thought, Mina is crying her eyes out.
Chaeyoung knocks on the door. “Mina, are you okay?” She waits a moment.
Mina replies, “I... no, not really.”
“Want to talk about it? Or watch a movie and distract yourself?”
Mina giggles. “I wish I could forget about this.”
Chaeyoung frowns. “Mina, how can I help?”
There is silence for a moment as Mina thinks. “Chae, come in.”
The brunette hesitates for a moment. She slowly opens the door and looks at Mina... and the pregnancy test in her hand. Her heart drops. She can see why Mina was so distraught. She looks back up into Mina’s eyes and sees a world of worry in them.
Without a second longer, she races over and hugs the blonde. Mina bursts into tears again against the brunette’s shoulder. She holds onto Chaeyoung as if the girl is all she needs for her pain to go away. Her world was crumbling around her, and yet somehow Chaeyoung makes it seem like everything is going to be alright.
They pull away and Mina looks into Chaeyoung’s eyes. “Chae, what am I going to do? I have two more years left of college; I can’t have a baby!” Mina cries and shakes, while Chaeyoung just holds her shoulders and worries for her.
Chaeyoung stands up and takes Mina’s hand. “Come on, let’s talk more in our room.” The blonde nods and stands up. She freshens up and goes with Chaeyoung into their shared dorm. They sit on Mina’s bed while tears fall from the blonde’s eyes. Chaeyoung sits next to her waiting for her to speak.
“I don’t know how I’m going to tell my parents. I don’t know where I’m going to get the money to take care of a... baby.” Mina’s shoulders slump as she says the last word.
Chaeyoung wants to say something, but doesn't know if it's appropriate, though she supposes there won’t be a right time to ask... “Mina, how did you get pregnant?”
Mina’s eyes shoot up at her. ‘Shit, I shouldn’t have asked that,’ Chaeyoung thinks.
“I’m sorry, I shouldn’t have asked that. It’s none of my business and-”
“It was Saebyeok.”
“The guy in our math class?”
“Yeah,” Mina looks down, ashamed. “We went to a party and...”
“Oh. So, it was just a one-night stand?”
“Yeah, it was,” replied Mina. Chaeyoung doesn't know why, but she feels relieved knowing there was nothing serious between them.
“Are you going to tell him?” Chaeyoung asks.
“I don’t think so. It was a one-time thing. I don’t want to ruin his life with this.” Mina always thinks of others, and it’s the biggest reason Chaeyoung admires her.
Although she admired Mina for what she said, she also can't help but feel sad for how she thinks this baby is going to ‘ruin’ her life. “You think the baby is going to ruin your life?”
“How could it not? I’m not prepared.”
“You have nine months to prepare. Who knows, maybe this is a blessing.”
“How could this be a blessing when I have no way of taking care of it?”
“We’ll find a way.”
“How? Chae, I don’t have the money.”
“I have money! I can help!” Chaeyoung was very eager with her words.
“I can’t make you do that!”
“You’re not making me. I want to help!”
“But why? I’d just be putting a burden on your shoulders.”
Chaeyoung looks at Mina seriously. “Mina, you’re not a burden. None of this is a burden! You’re the biggest blessing I have! And I would do anything to help you.”
Mina is shocked. When she read the pregnancy test, she thought she was screwed, but now, she thinks there may be some hope for her. Although it’s hard to believe Chaeyoung, after all she’d never meant much to anyone. It is hard for her to think that someone actually cares about her.
Mina takes a deep breath. “Okay,” she grabs Chaeyoung’s hand, “I trust you, but please, please stay true to your word.
Chaeyoung looks deeply into Mina’s eyes and says, “I will. I promise.”
