Chapter Text

Sunny woke up, stomach growling like a bear, hunger prevalent

"Are you going to eat brother?" Ghost Mari floats near him, and he's not talking about Something, he talking about 'real' Mari, that one that he killed with the power of stairs. "Sunny, you haven't answered me . . ." Mari gives him a look

Sunny blinks "Oh right . . ." Sunny gets out of bed "I guess I'll eat . . ." Sunny then goes out the room into the hallways, and steps at the top of the stairs

"Sunny . . . Don't." Mari warns, however, Sunny just yeets himself down the stairs "GODDAMMIT SUNNY!"

However, when he lands at the bottom, he survives, in pain, but still alive." Five in a row, man your neck must be weak Mari." Sunny smirks

"Don't make me remind you of your crush on Aubrey." Mari replies, Sunny fearing her wrath, he quickly shuts up, and nod. Mari smugly smiles in victory "Besides, they was a violin at the bottom of the stairs."

"Whoop, I wonder who put that there?" Sunny taps his chin coming up with nothing, then shrugging. His stomach growls again, demanding food "Food."

Sunny turns around and enters the kitchen, ghost Mari swaying behind his as she see him open the fridge . . . And staring distantly?

"Sunny?" Mari frowns, looking over Sunny's shoulder, and seeing- "Is that a cake?"

There lies a chocolate cake with a candles on top of it . . . But why?

Then Mari remembers "Oh right, happy birthday Sunny!" July 20th, that's right! Don't ask how Mari knows, she can just feel it in her non-existent bones

However, what she didn't expect was Sunny reaching out, taking out the candle, and bringing it towards his face

"Sunny?" Mari is confused, yet she only gets a glance before Sunny takes a big ol' bite out of it "SUNNY?!"

Sunny just crunches the candle in front of the baffled Mari, uncaring of the taste and the fact that his teeth might be destroyed. After forcefully swallowing the candle down, he takes another

"Brother, you're going to die." Mari points out, only getting a shrug from Sunny. Mari sighs, shaking her head, unsure what to say . . . Unless . . .

"If you die, you'll be staying with me, and I'll make sure to tease you about Aubrey for the rest of your ghostly life."

. . .

Sunny stops eating the candle and throws up, which Mari considers that a victory, although she is worried about Sunny's health. Maybe teasing him about Aubrey will get him out the house?

Notes:

Coolio beanso, or something like that

Also, happy birthday Sunny

I don't think anything will hold a candle to this ;)

Chapter 2: The Second chapter

Chapter Text

A boy wakes up in his bed.

What is his name?

Maxy.

Wait, what? That’s not how the game works! Try again.

Ross.

No, no, wrong! Something related to the sun.

Apollo.

. . .

His name is Sunny.

Emily.

What? Why are- You know what? I’m revoking naming privileges!

):

Anyways, Sunny wakes in the middle of the night, moon shining through the window, crickets chirping-

Flowers blooming. On nights like these-

NO SANS REFERENCE IN THE OMORI FIC!

Darn

MOVING ON! Sunny gets up from his bed, and see his sister hoovering off the floor.

“Oh, you’re finally awake.” Mari smiles with excitement at her brother. Don’t you dare say anything,

Not going to.

I know better! Regardless, Sunny frowns curiously at Mari, noticing her joy. She explains, “It’s your birthday today!.”

“Wait, wasn’t my birthday yesterday?” Sunny asks with a hoarse voice, using it less and less as the days go by.

Mari gives him a concerned look, before readjusting her face.

Does that make sense?

Yes it does!

“Um, no, it was last year, Sunny.” Mari tells Sunny, and he gives her a look. “I’m serious! Also, there’s a cake in the fridge, which, this time, doesn't have a candle.”

“But that’s the whole point of a birthday cake, if it’s even my birthday in the first place.” Sunny points out, and Mari shakes her head.

“Nope! It’s a birthday cake regardless, and it’s not getting any candles.” Mari puts an end to it, and Sunny gives a distant look.

“Oh . . . Okay . . .” Sunny sadly says, and slumps his way to his door.

So no candle?

Shush! Anyways, Mari represses her guilt. Sunny opens his door, and slowly walks to the staircase. “Wait, Sunny!” Mari remembers, but is too late as Sunny falls.

However, his body becomes goop, and he worms his way down the stairs like water.

That’s not how that works.

But it’s funny.

No it’s not.

Darn, well regardless, Sunny reaches the bottom of the stairs as a puddles, then reforms back to his human self. Mari follows him down, confused about the situation and still pushing down her guilt as Sunny stomps his way to the kitchen,

Soon, he reaches the fridge, and opens it, finding a lone cake sitting in the dead centre with nothing else. Sunny sullenly stares into the fridge, and Mari holds back.

However, the seal of her heart is released as she hears Sunny sigh, and she couldn’t keep it in any more.

“There’s candles in the closet.” Mari blurts, getting a look from Sunny. Though, it seemed strangely dead. Was she too late? Or-

“What closet?” Sunny enquires, and Mari gives up her smiling façade, now expressing worry.

“You know, the closet where you put the toybox in, which contains the violin.” Mari says, then taps her chin, “Actually, was it Basil? Maybe out mom? Unlikely, but possible.”

“What toybox? Violin?” Sunny is giving a shaky look.

“Well, it’s beside the stairs.” Mari tells him, suddenly wondering why Sunny hasn’t gotten therapy yet, before remembering their father isn’t paying them.

“Oh, you mean your piano room.” Sunny expression snaps back to reality.

Eminem reference.

Not everything is a reference! sigh.

Mari blinks, then shakes her head, “No, the- Where are you going?”

However, Sunny ignores her, and heads to the piano room. Mari sighs, and floats behind him. She decides to clarify once they reach the room, and after a moment, they do.

Uh, pretty sure-

Nope!

Sunny enters, spotting the piano sitting in the centre with bookshelves and a grandfather clock standing near the walls.

“Sunny, not here. I meant the other room- Are you listening to me?” Mari asks as Sunny as he crawls on the floor, looking underneath the piano. “Sunny, get out of there.”

He does, though he brings out a book labelled Missed Mari Birthday. Mari felt her heart punched, feeling regret. Sunny opens the box as Mari silently wallows, and he spots an assortment of party related items.

However, he finds what he’s looking for.

It’s candles.

Nope, party balloons.

. . .

I was very tricksy, wasn’t I?

Not really.

Darn.

But yes, Sunny finds some candles, and as Mari closed her eyes to exhale, he brings a candle to his mouth, and takes a bite.

Mari snaps her eyes open, and sees what Sunny is doing. “W-What are you doing?! Oh no, not again.”

Sunny blinks, looking down and back up, before presenting a candle, “I saved you the purple one.” He says between crunches.

“That’s not the issue!” Mari shouts, though sees Sunny give her a panicked look, and she waves her, “Sorry, sorry! Look, just, please, stop eating the candles; It’s unhealthy, and you will get sick.” She then remembers an old trick, “Also, if you continue, I'll tease you about Aubrey.”

Oh my god, Sunburn fic.

What are you? A Sunfish fan?! (Please, if you are, I’m alone.)

What?

My wife left me with the kids.

WHAT?!

Uh, carrying on.

Sunny spits his candle out, and Mari is relieved, “Ah good, now-”

“Wait, is there such a thing as edible candles?” Sunny suddenly has a universal thought.

“Um, maybe?” Mari shrugs, but then gets an idea, “Oh, I know, we can check the store.”

“No, you can check the store.” Sunny clarifies, and Mari knew she was pushing her luck.

“Alright, but you can’t eat any candles while I’m gone, or I swear!” Mari warns, already having her heart twist at the thought of leaving her brother alone, but she can’t always be around. “Anyways, I’ll be right back.”

She leaves Sunny by floating through the wall because she’s a ghost, duh. She also looks away from where she . . . Well she saw it, though she might have died in the bed, or maybe at the bottom of the stairs. Still, the sight gives her the shivers.

She quickly moves onwards, and reaches the road, where she takes the familiar path to Othermart. Eventually, she reaches it, and enters, searching around the place. Of course, she couldn’t ask anyone, but for her brothers sake, she will find those candles.

However, she instead finds a familiar girl sleeping curled up on the floor, near the shelf with the birthday items. Mari squints at the girl, before gasping, and rushing back to Sunny.

She thinks of a plan, and after a moment, she gets an idea. With determination, she goes through the wall. “Sunny, there are edible candles!”

A possible lie, sure, and she feels really guilty, but if it gets her brother out of the house and find the girl, she over the moon.

And yet, her brother does not respond as he lies on the floor as flat as a plank, eyes shut.

“Sunny? Sunny?!” Mari calls him out, and reaches her hand, “Sunny, wake up-”

However, her hand passes through him, and she suddenly remembers her current state.

How could she forget?

It can happen during . . . A panic? I guess it’s a panic.

Whatever it is, Mari shouts, “Wake up, Sunny! Please, there’s lots of delicious candles at the store! In fact, you can eat these while going to it if you want.” She knows it wasn’t, but darn it, she wanted her brother to meet the girl.

But still, her brother sleeps peacefully, and Mari feels her hope drop as she sighs, “Please . . . Wake up . . .”

And there was no response, only the light breathing of his brother.

Mari stares down at her brother, disappointed at herself. Perhaps next year, she can get him out of the house.

Oh god, a third chapter?!

This is a serious moment!

Anyways, Mari floats down next to her brother, and stares up at the ceiling. “Goodnight, brother. Oh, and happy birthday.”

Meanwhile, Aubrey lays on the cold floor of Othermart, knowing that she will have to show the secret hang out spot to her better friends who are actually there for her.

Although, strangely, she thinks of Sunny, and something about the day felt important.

Well, she’s going to ignore it just like he’s been ignoring her in his little bubble.

Aubrey hates him.

I don’t even know what to say to that, except for incorrect buzzer noise.

That’s not funny.

):

Anyways, the end

Wow, unsatisfying.

Oh? So you want me to continue?

WAIT NO!

Omori wakes up in Whitespace.

Please, stop!

Are you sure?

YES!

Tell me that this fic is funny.

Wow, desperate for validation.

H-HEY!

. . .

Please?

. . .

And gone.

Whelp, the end, I suppose.

Hmm, what should I do?

Perhaps I should find my kids.

It has been 5 years.

You know what, see ya!

Anyways, happy birthday Sunny.

Can’t believe I did a second chapter.

Bar moment.
