Chapter 1: Prologue: Night of Reckoning

Chapter Text

Nick and Charlie stay up late watching some late night drama series that most people would easily fall asleep on. However, this is Charlie’s favorite late show much to Nick’s disagreement to Charlie’s taste for that show.

“I can’t believe you enjoyed this show! You’re like Tao for liking this” says Nick as he watches the show with extreme boredom.

“What? You don’t like Spanish drama shows? They have the most dramatic scenes ever! Look at this! Juanito is going to propose to her girlfriend!”

The two watch the scene play out but Nick is not living for it because he does not understand a word they’re saying. If it’s French, he would’ve enjoyed it. Then again, he is not fond of any drama show just like the one they’re watching.

[CHARLIE’S POV]

Gosh why did I bother watching this with him? I wish he can give a little bit of effort to show some interest. This is actually the decent show I’ve watched! Gladly, I know a thing or two in Spanish because abuelo taught me some when I visited Spain.

I glanced at my boyfriend whose eyes are gonna sink like MS Titanic. But, my whole spirit is alive like sunrise–probably because Juanito is gonna propose to Miriam. Those two are legit my top couples for this show. Mauricio is supposed to be my top man until he cheated on Laura. I swear, they were this close to becoming an endgame. I don’t know why they decided to call it off, bad move.

If this was me and Nick, I would storm off and beat those writers. I won’t allow them to write me and Nick a breakup scene–as if I’ll allow it even if it’s for the show. Absolute no.

[ IN ENGLISH DIALOGUE - JUANITO ]: Miriam, you are everything to me!

To be honest, Juanito is so handsome but Nick is just beyond handsome–as if God has carefully molded Nick to be this perfect. I know it sounds biased but I really love him so bad.

Nick has not shut his eyes yet. I think he is starting to invest for this show or perhaps it is because this is the proposal.

Proposal. Oh why did I think of that?

We’ve been together for 10 years now but, is it fine to go to this stage? Marriage is something else and like, it holds a lot of responsibility.

Juanito falls down on one knee and opens the box, showing the ring dazzling in front of Miriam’s eyes. I got lost in a split second and saw Nick as Juanito. Why did the image suddenly become Nick? And why did I suddenly feel I was Miriam?

Maybe it’s the late hours now that is why I’m imagining stuff, but to be married to Nick?

It’s not a bad one but, are we even ready?

[NICK’S POV]

My eyes just want to shut down from this boring show but it seems Charlie likes it. I just do not know how he likes this kind of show? Maybe it's the language barrier that’s why I can’t appreciate it.

This man Juanito says some dialogues in Spanish that I may infer he is proposing. Gosh now I know why Charlie likes it, that Juanito is seriously gorgeous! He is like a Hispanic version of Orlando Bloom. Not to mention that girl, Miriam is also gorgeous! What’s with Hispanic people being gorgeous as hell?

Suddenly my droopy eyes become slightly awakened as I’m hooked by their scene. I looked at Charlie and he seemed alive for it. The way he smiles is just gorgeous even if it is like midnight. Glad it’s Saturday tomorrow, I can slack off throughout the day and finish the work for the afternoon.

Juanito goes down and shows the ring to Miriam. The proposal scene is so romantic, I can just imagine myself there.

Then I suddenly have a moment of pause.

Proposal? Me proposing? Well, I wouldn’t protest the idea of proposing to Charlie. After all, Charlie and I have been going so strong for a decade now. I think it’s okay?

“Oh Juanito! I’m so happy for you!” says Charlie.

Charlie sheds some tears after Miriam said Yes to Juanito. Next step is that they hope their engagement won’t fall just some soap operas out there. Crazy tropes am I right? If Charlie and I were to be put there, heck I would decline to play a broken up scene. That’s just not right. I can’t break character and say “It’s Over!” when Charlie is standing in front of me…

I think deeply about proposing to him like how will it play out? Who will go down on one knee? Do I have to say something cheesy?

Before I can stress this over, are we really meant to reach this stage?

—---------------------
The show ends with Juanito and Miriam sharing a kiss with the sunset in the background. The two eventually go to their bedroom and sleep through the night. However, they can’t get a decent sleep without thinking of that proposal scene–thinking if they’re going to do it instead of Juanito and Miriam.

In their minds, they ponder deeper about it, losing their chances of going to sleep. They keep on tossing, moving to different positions until they find themselves looking away from each other. Eventually, both of them smile that probably it is that right time to be on this new phase of their relationship.

[CHARLIE AND NICK]: Maybe it is time.
