Work Text:
Liesel made a mistake. She made a big mistake. "What have I done?" Lisel says distress clear in her voice. "Calm down, panicking won't help" says Max in an attempt to make her feel better. What happened you may ask? Well, Lisel dropped a fake identification card whilst helping a Jew escape. It was a very stupid mistake. She had always been good at her work, Lisel always made sure to not leave behind any traces, but here they were. The identification card was lost in her hurry to hide a Jew on the train from the soldiers. It was unexpected, based on their observation they only do train inspections every Monday and Thursday, that day was a Tuesday. They were caught by surprise.
It has been over 7 years since Rudy was taken from his parents by the Nazis, over 7 years since the bombing on Himmel street, and since he last saw his best friend. He had risen up the ranks and became an admiral. It was tough during those 7 years, when he heard about the bombing o Himmel Street he was at war in Stalingrad. He didn't even have time to mourn or even think about it. Rudy's world might have stopped when he found out but war sure didn't. He threw himself into his work and dedicated all his time and effort to be a better soldier. Let's be honest, we all know Rudy has a lot of potentials. After all, why would they (the people who went to Rudy's home to take, I mean talk to his parents) take the time to go there if he wasn't any good? His hard work eventually paid off and now he is where he is.
