Work Text:

Vicky snapped her eyes open restlessly. She was strewn haphazardly across her shared bed, one of her fiance's wrapped around her half exposed torso like a lifeline, the other was scrawled to the other side of the bed, cuddling a pillow. Vicky frowned, wanting to reach for her but she had one arm placed above her head and was notably numb from a night of being squashed while the other was resting over her fiance’s exposed back.

She looked down at herself, her mind hazy and rearing from sleep. Zoe had haphazardly thrown herself on top of Vicky after a hard day, someone had been harassing her online for months and one particular comment had left the eldritch cutie in a bit of a funk. While she stared at her, she noticed something; she didn’t realize that gods could breathe, or was that her imagination? Gods are immortal and wouldn’t die if they’d stop breathing. She’d ask Zoe later, the question was starting to fog her head in that familiar way whenever she became almost obsessively curious over something.

She’d quietly watched the rise and fall of her chest, occasionally grinning at the way some of her eyes would move under their respective lids, mouths either shut or gawking open. She craned her neck to look at Aaravi, who had an equally bad day and came home only to flop onto the bed and refuse to speak to anyone outside of a murmur. Vicky looked to the clock; it was 2am.

She tried to adjust, or at least bring the blanket up since it was still nighttime and she was both half-nude and wearing the thinnest top she could find, apparently. Zoe wouldn’t budge, in fact she wrapped her arm and tentacle tighter around Vicky’s waist and trapped her in the position while she tried to at least move her numb arm. Eventually she pried herself free. Vicky rolled off the bed and went to sit in one of the loveseats in the room. Their room was large, well the house was large, the three of them had personally crafted the house to live in once they decided to live with each other, and with the help of Zoe’s unending pot of wealth, they were able to make the house in a relatively short time.

The door to the room was a double-door, right in front of it by a couple feet was a large canopy bed, a water bed per Aaravi’s request. There was a pit in the floor to the right of the bed that separated from the usual carpet of the room to a wood floor, the pit was only a step down and was like a mini living room with a flat-screen secured to the wall, various gaming systems, a mini-fridge, a couch and a couple of seats, honestly Vicky didn’t really want an extravagant mansion she so suddenly found herself in but at the end of the day, she really couldn’t complain when she fell asleep in the arms of her most beloved people.

Vicky was on the other side of the room where Zoe worked on her projects, a desk with a portable art tablet on it, one loveseat under a small canopy with various themed items around it, and another loveseat that was mainly for her to write on. She was flexing her wrist, sucking in air through her teeth. Her arm was still numb and buzzing uncomfortably. She heard shuffling, then found herself looking into Aaravi’s piercing gaze, only it was half-lidded and squinting against the lamplight on one of the bedside tables that Vicky forgot to turn off. Aaravi shuffled and put the pillow back in place. She propped herself tiredly onto her elbows and stared at Vicky questioningly. Vicky shuffled on the loveseat, “I couldn’t sleep.” She murmured.

Aaravi looked over her shoulder briefly, her periwinkle hair falling gently over her shoulders. She was looking at Zoe, who was more or less spread as much as she could across the bed. “Why can’t you sleep?” Aaravi questioned, sliding off the bed to join Vicky. She embraced the warmth that Aaravi brought, sliding her arms around her torso. “I don’t know. I’ve been on and off all night, I just can’t get to sleep long enough.” Aaravi leaned over and peppered her cheeks in kisses, Vicky giggled and held her closer.

“Do you want me to get you some melatonin?” Aaravi asked, leaning her head against Vicky’s shoulder. “No, it’s fine.” Vicky replied, sliding her hand up Aaravi’s loose tee. She rested her hands on Aaravi’s back, her hands cold. Aaravi shuddered at the cold, “Vick, you are freezing.” She hissed. “Sorry, Zoe’s been my blanket for the last couple hours.” She giggled. Aaravi hummed, then lifted her head, pulling Vicky’s hand away and looking at the golden band on her ring finger. She stared at it tentatively then with a warmth that only she and Zoe ever got to witness, pressing a kiss to her hand and kissing the ring. Vicky smiled, “Oh, sweetie.“, Aaravi leaning in close and kissing her for a brief, but tender moment.

“I love you,” Aaravi said, “Don’t tell Zoe I was this open with you, I’ll never hear the end of it.” She chuckled. Vicky smiled again, smaller this time but still followed by that same warmth, she still had those same tsundere tendencies, and Zoe reveled in it. “I love you too.” She leaned over and kissed Aaravi’s cheek. She couldn’t believe these two were hers. It took a while, and a conveniently placed coffee shop halfway through Vicky’s college years for her to finally get it. Zoe had always been one of Vicky’s unexplainable crushes, she had just been drawn to the girl ever since she enrolled at Spooky High, eventually working up the nerve to ask the girl out on prom night.

The following sequence of events were…Let’s just say, not what Vicky had hoped for. Zoe and her started dating, but to some degree it was never serious, never leaving that fluffy, light and continuously intimate part of the relationship, and it was never addressed until halfway through summer at summer camp, when Zoe admitted she wasn’t ready for anything serious and was more or less looking for causality. Vicky understood, she wanted to spend her immortal life having fun after all, and she couldn’t blame her for that.

Vicky will still be grateful they broke up then, finding something in Aaravi she’d been looking for. Sure, it took a good chunk of her summer but at the end of it, when Aaravi finally let her walls down, she was happy to have met her. Shortly after summer and halfway through a dead end job that was really going to lead her nowhere, Vicky got accepted into college in her dream course, taking up an engineering major while Aaravi studied archeology, of all things. Their relationship was nice, lasting for about a year and a half until that fateful day.

Zoe was apparently writing something, she’d just enrolled at a nearby college for their arts program but didn’t seem to be worried about attending classes at the moment. Zoe only had to look once to recognize Vicky, despite a couple new stitches from some incidents at a couple parties, and a new hairdo that she was trying out more so for convenience than the actual style. Zoe and Aaravi hit it off immediately and the curiosity and affection behind the lovecraftian creature’s eyes were palpable. That night both her and her girlfriend agreed to ask her out simultaneously, quite unfazed at how new the situation was, polyamory never being a forefront for Vicky but happy she decided to try it out.

Zoe started snoring…Somehow, knocking the frankenstein out of her memories. Vicky again, didn’t bother to question it. She wrapped her arms around Aaravi’s waist and pulled her into a lazy hug. She returned it, then suddenly felt arms snaking under her knees and around her shoulders. The fankenstein would have yelped at how fast she was picked up but stifled it as Aaravi carried her bridal style back to the bed. She was placed gently in the center, and honestly Zoe should’ve gotten an award for how fast she started cuddling again, the tentacle more firmly wrapped around her waist this time. She hummed as Aaravi climbed in to sandwich her, leaning her head against her chest.

She brought the blanket up to their shoulders, although in Zoe’s case it was more like her chin. Vicky cuddled up to both of them, head craning to rest her chin on top of Zoe’s head while Aaravi leaned over and ducked her head into the crook of her neck. For once, the cold of the night didn’t reach her as her eyes tiredly fluttered closed, slowly escaping to rose-tinted dreams.
