Spoiler: Guide to Younghoon Route

Summary:

Younghoon loves watching Jacob's gaming streams, but he can only watch for so long before he grows bored. Luckily for him, Jacob is an absolute beast of a gamer. Jacob knows this, and he's confident in his skills in all genres of gaming, including dating simulators.

Spoiler: you don't really need a guide if you've played through the route once already.

Notes:

Work Text:

Younghoon laid in bed, mindlessly scrolling through Twitter when he saw a notification pop up at the top of the screen. It read “comfycobie is live!” and he wasted no time in tapping on the notification for his phone to open Twitch.

“Hi everyone! Oh, thank you for the 3-month sub! Anyways everyone, welcome back to my stream. Tonight, I’ll be warming up with a few songs from osu before we dive into Valorant.”

He heard comfycobie’s, or Jacob’s, voice flowing from his phone speakers. Watching his streams was one of Younghoon’s favorite pastimes. It was ironic considering he knew next to nothing about gaming, but he loved watching Jacob’s streams. Something about it indeed felt comfy and lived up to the streamer’s username.

Being real though, the true reason Younghoon loved watching him was because Jacob was his boyfriend.

Of course, he also loved watching his lover make a living out of doing what he loved. A big chunk of entertainment came from just watching Jacob’s various reactions to different games and situations, and at that point Younghoon didn’t care to know what was actually happening in the game. But he could only stay entertained for so long.

Younghoon flopped over on his bed as Jacob on screen queued up for his third Valorant match for the night. He was tired of hearing weird gamer lingo over a simple game of shoot or be shot. What the hell was “heaven” supposed to mean? Why couldn’t they just say top or above or whatever else that made sense? “Showers”? Younghoon just didn’t get it.

He didn’t want to stop watching Jacob’s stream, but he was so bored. He closed his eyes and sighed. Maybe he could fall asleep like this considering it was already well past 11PM. The abandoned Twitch stream served as a good source of static noise lullaby.

Or maybe he didn’t have to sleep just yet.

His eyes opened back up as he realized the obvious solution to his problem. Younghoon set his phone down and got up to leave his room. He skipped down the hall until he stood in front of another room. He let himself in without knocking and giggled when he saw Jacob look away from the computer screen to him in surprise.

“Hey you.” Jacob didn’t hesitate to reach out for him despite being in the middle of a match. “What brings you here?”

“Baaaaabe. It’s so boring and lonely without you.” Younghoon guided Jacob’s arms back to his keyboard and instead wrapped his own arms around Jacob from behind him. He caught a glimpse of Jacob’s stream chat scrolling past at rapid speed with half of them freaking out about their interaction and the other half greeting him. He rested his head atop Jacob’s to add fuel to the fire.

“You can sit next to me while I play then!”

Younghoon pouted. “Won’t I be distracting you then? I don’t even know what’s going on half of the time.”

Jacob laughed. “It’s fine. Come sit!”

He did as he was told and dragged a spare chair over to sit next to Jacob. Sure, the game still bored him out a bit, but being right next to Jacob and watching the game unfold right in front of him entertained him.

He tried to assess what was going on in the Valorant match. It looked like Jacob’s team was barely ahead score-wise. The tables could easily be turned at any moment. He also couldn’t hear the in-game sounds due to Jacob wearing headphones, but he could see that he was the last one standing in his team. At least some things were easy to tell even for someone like him.

“Babe, do you believe that I can clutch this round?”

Younghoon nodded and kept his eyes on the screen. He watched Jacob attempt to take on four of the enemy team by himself, starting with the two they both knew were around the corner. Jacob quickly peeked out from his hiding spot and took down two enemies on sight, barely scathed.

“Easy.”

Had anyone else said that, Younghoon would’ve laughed. But not only was Jacob skilled at the game, “easy” coming from him sounded kind of hot.

He reminded himself that he was on Jacob’s stream and fought against the blush threatening to rise up to his cheeks. He focused back on the game where Jacob now stealthily navigated across the map to avoid being heard by the enemy. The suspense lured Younghoon closer to the screen and forced him to hold his breath.

He tilted his head when Jacob turned around and sprinted back towards where he came from. Didn’t he already kill everyone on that site?

“I thought for sure they rotated to B. How was I supposed to know they’d counter-predict my moves? Who even waits at one site for that long?”

Ah, Younghoon nodded as he got the context. He watched Jacob’s character slow down again to creep back onto site A. Neither of them knew where exactly the spike was planted and where the enemies would be waiting for Jacob to come and defuse it.

Jacob stopped just short of stepping on-site. “One of them is bound to come looking for me, just watch.”

And true to his word, one of the two remaining enemies stepped out to where Jacob was waiting around the corner. Younghoon saw the enemy fall right in front of Jacob’s character, and that left only one other enemy to finish off.

“Cob, does Valorant have a voice recognition feature? How did that work out like you said?”

He giggled at his remark. “These things are predictable babe. You’ve watched enough of my— Oh, thank you for the 100 bits! Anyways, you’ve watched enough of my streams to know that!”

What he said was true, but it didn’t change the fact that his plays impressed Younghoon. And how did he have the time to look and react to donations?

Though the enemy team no longer outnumbered Jacob, he was still at a disadvantage in facing the last one standing due to the damage he’d taken fighting the other three. Based on the blinking icon at the top center of the screen, the spike had been planted and would detonate any time soon. Younghoon clutched at the edges of his chair tighter at the game’s progress.

And then, green smoke started filling the screen, which Younghoon recognized as the ultimate ability of Jacob’s character. He was a little confused given that this ability was usually used by the attackers to protect the spike, but this would work out well enough to bait the last enemy.

Jacob creeped through the poison smog to locate the spike. Once he did, he faked defusing and took cover on the obstacle next to the spike. There were a few gunshots from somewhere beyond the smog and then the enemy’s figure stepped into the smog as well. Jacob took the opportunity to take the enemy down by surprise and managed to defuse the spike just before its detonation. Younghoon practically leapt out of his seat at the clutch play.

“Holy shit Cob!”

“Shh, language!” Jacob chided but laughed at Younghoon who looked at him with his hands clenched together to his chest and his eyes shining with admiration.

In the end, Jacob lost the overall Valorant match, but Younghoon couldn’t get over the incredible clutch of that single round. He’d seen his fair share of amazing plays from Jacob of course, but witnessing it firsthand right next to him put Jacob in a different light. Yeah, he was always attractive, but that gameplay somehow made him hotter than before. Call him silly for being so worked up over a video game, but it was one of the coolest things he’d ever seen.

They had an impromptu mini-Q&A session because of Younghoon’s unexpected appearance that night, and then Jacob bid good night to his chat before ending the stream. Younghoon dove straight for the bed behind them while Jacob leaned back in his chair and stretched.

“So, what did you think about tonight’s stream?”

Younghoon let out a long hum at Jacob’s question before he settled on an answer. “That clutch round. That was so hot.”

“That was hot?” Jacob giggled. “Anything else? Feedback, questions, concerns, comments…”

“Well,” Younghoon began and shifted himself up to a half-sitting position, “does osu even really help with aim? Theoretically it should, but when you actually practice aim, you’re not playing osu.”

“Nah, osu aim is kind of a thing on its own.”

Jacob got out of his seat and flopped down next to Younghoon, then placed his left hand on his thigh. “But these fingers can tap into things really fast, if you get what I mean.”

Jacob started rapidly tapping his fingers onto the soft flesh and Younghoon pushed his hand off out of mock-disgust. “Ew, get your sweaty gamer hands off of me!”

“Hey! I’ll have you know, I’m fully capable of playing games that don’t require my try-hard mode.”

Younghoon turned to Jacob and raised an eyebrow. “And what would those games be?”

“I don’t know, like— um… dating sims?”

“Dating sims,” Younghoon deadpanned. “I don’t know, Cob. If you told me you knew exactly how to play through every single route, I’d call that pretty try-hard.”

There was silence, and then Jacob smirked. “Oh, I don’t think I’ll have to try so hard.”

“And what makes you say that?”

“Well there’s one route I don’t need a guide on.” Jacob sat up completely before continuing. “It’s called ‘making my way to my boyfriend’s heart’.”

Younghoon registered maybe the latter half of Jacob’s statement before Jacob took a seat on his lap and leaned down to press a light kiss onto Younghoon’s lips. He blinked at the contact and looked towards Jacob in confusion, to which he only smiled and leaned down again, this time kissing him a second longer than the last one.

“Step one: start gentle. The bread boy is about as soft as he looks.”

Younghoon let out an embarrassed laugh, using his hands to hide his flushed cheeks.

“What? Bbanghoon is an adorable nickname, and you’re just about as sweet and soft as that favorite bread of yours. What’s it called again? Chocolate conch bread?”

“Stoooooop,” Younghoon whined and uncovered his eyes to glare at Jacob, but what showed instead were two crescents unable to hide a very obvious smile.

“This leads straight onto step two: use compliments and flattery. He’s not a soft boy for no reason.”

Younghoon returned to covering his face again and mumbled from behind his hands, “You’re just about as soft as I am.”

“Yes, but right now I’m busy proving to you that I’m not a try-hard. You can have your turn turning me into mush later.” With that, Jacob took Younghoon’s hands in his and guided it away from hiding the shy boy beneath them.

“Step three: deliver your feelings.” Bringing one of his hands back up to Younghoon’s cheek, Jacob whispered, “I love you.” And Younghoon, too shy to use his words, instead leaned in and closed his eyes when Jacob came to meet his lips for the third time.

They kissed like that until they couldn’t tell apart one’s breath from another, like they’d turned into one. Jacob’s lips felt so familiar, yet distinctly different each time. Younghoon didn’t know how to exactly describe it, but it was part of what he loved about exploring Jacob. He could be so delicate, then fierce, other times sensual, that he never knew what to expect. There was an endless sea of emotions he could feel from him, and Younghoon hoped he could convey the same.

Their hands began to find other ways to each other, wanting to go beyond the hesitant touches of uncharted territory. However, Jacob broke apart before their session grew too heated and Younghoon barely refrained from chasing after his lips. He didn’t understand why they stopped. He wanted more of Jacob, needed Jacob to tell him more through his kisses.

When they’d both caught their breaths, Younghoon heard Jacob speak up first. “Step four.”

He awaited eagerly, giving Jacob a playful push when he stalled for time in revealing the fourth step. “Step four is to leave the other wanting more.”

Younghoon nodded, then stopped. “What?”

“Your boyfriend, who’s a sweaty try-hard, needs a shower.” Jacob booped Younghoon’s nose at the end of his statement for emphasis and hopped off of Younghoon’s lap. He promptly left for the bathroom and left Younghoon, still slightly breathless, with his mouth wide open. A huff of disbelief escaped him.

“Jacob Bae, you’re so going to get it when you come back.”
