Work Text:
I bumbled up to my doorway, fumbling with my keys in the dark. This day had been far too long and I wanted nothing but to tear my clothes off and fall onto my bed. I finally breathed a sigh of relief, finding the right key and moving to put it in the door only for it to swing open a moment before.
“Hey Honeybee! I was starting to wonder if you were sleeping at the shop instead.” He laughed out the last of it while gesturing to me to come inside. I felt some energy return to me just from the warmth of his smile but I could still only smile back weakly as I trundled in.
I tossed my keys into the side table bowl and began pulling off my shirt as I summoned the energy to not sound like a zombie.
“Hey, Honeybear. Yeah it was… frustrating.” I censored myself, wanting the mood here to be as uncorrupted by my day as possible.
“Ooof, it was that bad? Want to talk about it?” He slowly walked past me and towards the couch. Only then did I realize he was in his boxers. I guess he got comfy sometime after the sun went down. Getting to work on my belt, I decided I would match.
“Yeah… I don’t feel like talking about it though.” It felt so good to get out of those clothes finally. Feeling so much of the day still clinging to my fur, part of me wanted to hop in the shower now but the thought was pushed out by a smell hitting my nose.
“Is that nachos?”
“Yep! You want some?”
“Yes please. If there’s enough.”
“Come sit down.”
A knowing smile as he took up his seat before our TV and I followed shortly after. He was watching that new comedy with the little yellow men from the memes his mother constantly tags me in. He probably took the chance while I wasn’t around since he liked it way more than I did.
Now down to my wrinkly rainbow boxers, I sat and got cozy on Dean’s shoulder. Him wrapping an arm around me in a half hug, quickly replaced the harsh cold of the outside with my favorite gentle warmth.
My hand rubbed down my face trying to wipe the tiredness off and as I reopened my eyes, I was greeted by a floating tortilla chip. I opened up without a second thought, not even needing to move my neck as he landed the chip on my tongue. It was mostly the store bought nacho cheese with extra seasonings and peppers mixed in to give it some life. A bit cold but still great.
Looking down at the bowl however, I said “Dean, that’s not enough for two.” Judging by the size of the bowl he only made enough for one, and there was only half left now.
He scratched through my fur with his idle hand as he replied, “Don’t worry about it, Honeybee, I’m full enough already.”
He could put away three times that bowl’s size and ask for more so I knew he was lying, but I didn’t have the energy to fight back against his politeness tonight. Another flying cheese-dipped chip came into my vision. I moved a hand up to rub into his fluffy chest as I looked up at him, seeing his calm smile and big green eyes lit up by the TV screen as he looked right back into mine.
“You also don’t need to feed me.”
“Shush, stop talking during the movie.”
I rolled my eyes, again letting him have his way tonight. Vowing to get back at him tomorrow as another chip soared into my mouth. I smiled around the room-temperature cheesy goodness spreading across my tongue as I sat about trying to figure out what was happening in the half finished movie. My hand fell from his chest to his thigh as I laced my fingers between the one rubbing around my tummy.
Some of the slapstick humor got some chuckles out of me, but the bulk of laughter in the room came from Dean. The nachos didn’t last much longer even though he exclusively gave them to me. Once they were all gone, I began falling in and out of consciousness. Dean noticed and co-ordinated me to lie down with him, supplying his bicep to be my pillow and relaxing back into his bulk with a big hand still rubbing into my stomach and chest, combing all the stress of the day out of me.
“Nighty night, Honeybee.”
The last thing I remembered of that night was mumbling out that I wouldn’t fall asleep on him again and him answering with planting a kiss on my head.
